We were there pretty late but at a convenient hour for us, close to home, around 1030pm on a weeknight. I liked how the store was laid out. The produce had good selection and was of decent quality. The deli area looked so well looked after. The bakery selections rivaled many private bakeries I have visited when it came to tarts, cakes, pastries and more. In all, I liked what I saw and am anxious to shop there again and would recommend to our neighbors and friends. There were deals going on (2 for 1 marinated chicken breast packages, 2 for 1 marinated fish filets for that week) that extended my shopping list and of course I spent a little more than I meant to. But I do know that I saved more here that I would have at Co-op (my next closest grocery store choice) and I had a much better shopping experience. She stood extremely close to me, which made me uncomfortable. A simple "excuse me" would have been appreciated so I knew she needed access to the machine for her card tap or override. I understand staff need to assist customers and use the checkout system, but personal space should still be respected. Disrespectful service…read more I was buying a muffin and a drink. The self-serve checkout line was long so I decided to get in line for a cashier. In front of me was a woman with a pretty full cart, but I was willing to wait, and it seemed like the quickest option. There was no one behind me in line. When the woman in front of me had finished unloading her cart, the cashier came around the till. She made eye contact with me, glanced down at my basket with two items, and put her closed till sign behind the other woman's groceries. She then turns, looks me directly in the eyes again, and with a smile says, "find a different lane." I had two items. I understand that you needed to close, to go on break or something, but how do look a customer in the eye and tell them to find a different lane than the one they had been waiting in for about 5mins? Would it have inconvenienced you to spend an extra 2mins helping a customer? I had to go to a different line to purchase my items. I left the store angry and embarrassed. Let's go point form to get to the meat (rear centre/right) and potatoes (far right). - Unusually friendly staff. There's a a few of them that really stick out in this location! They're so friendly that I sometimes think they're mocking me. In all reality they're just very genuinely friendly, so I take the next minute to reevaluate and correct my unnecessarily pessimistic disposition. - Shiny clean produce. This is a staple among among Safeways and a real selling feature for sure. In general, their prices are higher than many other grocery giants, but if you need mass produced produce, Safeway is a solid choice. - Huge wait times. - I've not once seen this Safeway, or really any for that matter, run at full capacity. I've seen queues with over 18 people, but there are always closed registers. For some reason I forget about it often and am kicking myself when all I need is 1 item. *Side Note* I always think it's fun when you finish purchasing your items and the cashier says "You saved $6 dollars today." When I can't find what I'm looking for in Fruiticana, I'll walk across the street to OK Foods and 9.99 times out of 10, they have it. For example, today I stopped in at Fruiticana to pick up some Red Lentils,but they didn't have the variety I wanted. I walked across the street and sure enough, OK foods had it. The other thing I was looking for was Diwali decorations. The selection at Fruiticana was alright, but the selection at OK Foods was even better! Don't get me wrong, Fruiticana is DA BOMB, but if on the slim chance they don't have what you need, OK Foods, conveniently located right across the street, is sure to have it. I love both stores and I especially love the fact that they tend to compliment one another. Park your car and I promise you that between these two stores, all your Indian shopping needs will be taken care of. One stop, two Indian paradises... and who said the world wasn't a friendly place???
