While visiting Ontario and birding at a provincial park, we ran into a resident of Ontario, in the…read morewoods, and started talking food. He highly recommended this bakery. So we stopped in on our way back to Michigan. We arrived mid-day on a Saturday in September. The cute store was literally empty. Perhaps the post-tourist season combined with the major construction going on in front of the store was the cause. Feel sorry for the business owners on this street. You literally need to park a block or so away, walk along town up sidewalks with a barrier to the street constriction to arrive at their storefront. The two women working the counter were personable and attentive. They gave me lots of time to ogle all the yummy selections. High praise for the selection of baked goods. There is something for everyone: cupcakes, pies, cookies, donuts, bars, fresh bread, flat breads, bagels..... You will definitely find something to your liking here. I also glanced at the Icecream selection. It looked good though not so appealing in a chilly fall day. I chose 5 donuts and paid $18.11. As others have commented, the price is steep for donuts. Grabbed a nice cup of decaf Americano next door at the Daily Grind and my husband and I sat down on a bench close by, on a quant side street, to sample our donuts. We shared. a vanilla covered yeast donut with sprinkles, an Apple fritter and a cream puff. The flavors were definitely good, a solid 4-star performer. The fritter and cream puff were on the small side and perhaps lacked that extra something that you find with some donuts. At our next meal, we also shared a chocolate moose-filled donut and a lemon-filled donut with powdered sugar. We enjoyed the sturdy and not too sweet flavor of the donuts, though we felt the filling was a bit light; much more donut than filling. The chocolate icing gave the donut a nice balance of sweetness. It was excellent. The lemon-filled donut was just OK. The cafe was cheerful with upbeat art and quotes. Nice seating in the back. Though the large selection of products was nice, wondering if a focus on "that something special" would make this bakery five-star worthy in the taste domain. The steep prices would also give one pause, as similar quality can be found for less elsewhere.

We did the first- so when we were early to check into our Air BnB, we swung back around to check this out. Don't put off by the fact that this place doesn't seem like it has cleaned in years. The actual donut case looked pretty ok. I picture the lil old man waking up everyday and putting on his uniform of a white shirt and tan or black pants and shuffling to work. I'm not sure if the donuts are actually made on site, because it is so small, or if they are brought in and resold ( the donut bag actually was from a place in Royal Oak that I think are now closed). The prices were good though. When i walked in, the man asked if I had cash, so i think its cash only. No problem. Looking around, they do have Beer and Wine as mentioned in the signs outside, but the layer of dust on those Giant Carlo Rossi bottles was an inch thick. The coffee station was (at 2pm) looking like it was the first pot and only pot that will stay there until he closes up tonight. Also, the counter and back counter is where rnadom things go to die. Gloves, tape rolls, odd business cards, and probably anything else you would need in a scavenger hunt can be found. I say all that to say this- the man was still a charming old man who may appear a lil gruff but is most likely a big ol softy and only adds to the charm of this place. He pulled the tray out and says these are the fresh ones, so i picked a half dozen from the ones available, and he threw in a freebie as well- which was sweet of him. The cinnamon rolls were the best for sure- and were indeed very fresh. They were great when we woke up in the Air Bnb the next day with our coffee. I also picked up 2 Meat Pasties- and he gave me cooking directions- which i appreciated.

The place is small and clean with a great little donut vibe! We were greeted with a smile and left with a big thank you! We ordered donuts here, first time in Canada, and loved them so much that if we come back to Canada 1,000 more times, we will be getting donuts here 1,000 more times. The donuts were so soft and spongy, the fillings so flavorful and the Homer Simpson donut is awesome! The FERRERO ROCHER donut is a chocolate lover's dream! I swear the thing was more filling than donut! Sooo good!!!! These are the types of places to support and not the chains!

Last Friday we used them to cater a memorial for my sister in sebewaing and we ordered for 50 plus people for $712 and we had ham which was all completely dried up and chicken that I don't even know how that was cooked was just as dry as well, the sides were well let me say we're nothing to write home about, the only decent thing was some of the desserts until hair was found on some of the plates and mind you we all sat while they laid it out so the hair was not from us. So the following morning I stop by Murphy's myself to speak to the owner but was not available so they took down my name and phone # and said they would get back to me ASAP and as of today still no word and that is why I'm giving out my opinion for people to consider before wasting their money on this service, if your gonna offer a public service, do it the best way possible or just don't do it at all.....
