I really enjoyed the experience here, when I visited earlier this autumn. Went here, intrigued by…read morethe used book store and cafe concept. Ordered lunch and had a short browse in their shop. Lots to see. My friends and I took to their patio which is located down by the creek. On the day we went it was sunny and warm, perfect for an outdoor meal. I love birds and there are plenty around, and pretty feeders to entice. My friends ordered burgers and fries. The fries portion sizes are huge here. Its likely best to share if you go with someone or order an extra small fry. Their burgers looked amazing! I dont eat beef, yet they were deluxe patties with cheese, bacon tomato and lettuce, plus mayo and ketchup. I ordered the avocado wrap and their house salad. It was so large and so tasty. The pickles which, came with, were quality pickles and to die for. I absolutely loved how quaint it was inside. It used to be the actual flour mill of Williamsford. Fully operational. As this was back in September I dont recall all the dates the man shared. However, when him and his partner took it over they did some renos in order to bring it up to code. When our order was ready, they brought it down to us on the patio. HEAVY plates and it was quite a distance to walk to deliver the food to us. I met them up the hill to help out. Upon ordering my coffee I was interested in their milk alternatives and the lovely man took his time displaying options for me and offering up samples of the "milks" so that I was pleased with my decision. In spite of customers waiting behind me. I was a little uneasy to have so many ppl behind me so I allowed them to be taken care of before I completed my coffee order. Really, really top notch, friendly, informative and pleasant owners. We had our lunch late and they were closing soon, yet they even stayed open to allow further time for us to all explore the varied books they have. While they cleaned and did the dishes. I would definitely return sometime again in the future. And it is well recommended!

Awesome spot to stop in for lunch, relax and check out a book or two! The food is outstanding!…read moreLove the concept of ordering at the counter and waiting for delivery at your table. Reminds me of Pubs in the UK! This is a gem!

As with most small Ontario towns, there is naturally a Timmy's in Durham (pop. 2500). But before I…read morestopped there, I was thrilled to find Garafraxa, a cute little independent place that seems to have coffee shop/bistro/entertainment venue all wrapped into one. I stopped in for a tea, and was pleased to be offered a loose-leaf cream earl grey. The cranberry and pistachio biscotti was very fresh and a perfect pair for the tea... So yummy. I should note, I never ask for soy milk in small towns (was laughed at one too many times in the past), but a gentleman that came in after me (looked even more "out of town" than I did ;) asked for it... And the women serving, proudly announced she did have soy milk. Impressive. Wish I had some friends up here (hehe) - this place seems like a perfect Saturday night venue to grab a glass of wine and listen to live music :)

I was also happy to see cafe tables and chairs outside. It was a hot day and I needed a place to sit with my dog. Stepped inside and again was impressed with the look of the place, especially the stage. At the back of the room was a stage, stage lighting and a large screen. I didn't realize Garafraxa's is also a music venue. Looks like an excellent spot for musicians to pump up their performance. The espresso prices were Starbucks expensive, but my latte was quite large. The spinach pastry I ordered is the mass-produced pastries I've seen and eaten in other shops around Ontario. I would have preferred a little something savoury that was locally made.
