Cute little cafe/road-trippy souvenir shop that also has milkshakes and flavored sodas.

As with most small Ontario towns, there is naturally a Timmy's in Durham (pop. 2500). But before I…read morestopped there, I was thrilled to find Garafraxa, a cute little independent place that seems to have coffee shop/bistro/entertainment venue all wrapped into one. I stopped in for a tea, and was pleased to be offered a loose-leaf cream earl grey. The cranberry and pistachio biscotti was very fresh and a perfect pair for the tea... So yummy. I should note, I never ask for soy milk in small towns (was laughed at one too many times in the past), but a gentleman that came in after me (looked even more "out of town" than I did ;) asked for it... And the women serving, proudly announced she did have soy milk. Impressive. Wish I had some friends up here (hehe) - this place seems like a perfect Saturday night venue to grab a glass of wine and listen to live music :)

I was also happy to see cafe tables and chairs outside. It was a hot day and I needed a place to sit with my dog. Stepped inside and again was impressed with the look of the place, especially the stage. At the back of the room was a stage, stage lighting and a large screen. I didn't realize Garafraxa's is also a music venue. Looks like an excellent spot for musicians to pump up their performance. The espresso prices were Starbucks expensive, but my latte was quite large. The spinach pastry I ordered is the mass-produced pastries I've seen and eaten in other shops around Ontario. I would have preferred a little something savoury that was locally made.

Honestly, without this place at the Blue Mountain Village I would have felt homesick. I'm Italian…read moreand I love espresso and pastries so of course I was here every and I mean every, morning during my snowboarding vacation. I brought many friends with me and we all LOVED the coffee and pastries. The SERVICE was absolutely amazing, many of the employees were super helpful, passionate, caring, happy, and actually wanting to have conversations with you! They remembered my name and greeted me with BUG SMILES!! Thank you so much to the staff in this establishment! Also, the esthetic/ambiance was super cozy, warm, light and felt like a great spot to eat, drink, have a conversation, date, and even watch the busy staff making pastries, serving and drinks. Thank you for the hospitality and excellent service.

We had the chocolate croissant (5/5) which was buttery and flaky with the rich decadent flavour of the chocolate. The chocolate cookie (5/5) was a delight. It was soft and perfect for those looking for a nice sweet treat. The nutella ice cream latte (5/5) was so good. It wasn't overly sweet which was enjoyable. The iced americano (3/5) was decent. It's more on the acidic side which I'm not a fan of but I still enjoyed sipping on it. The service was fast and both ladies that worked at the espresso bar and at the counter were friendly. Overall, such a great spot if you're in town for a cute cafe that will help you wind down and relax.
