Tarts, cookies, donuts
David Y.

It was fine, though don't quite get the hype. The tarts were outstanding (homemade in the best possible way: freshly baked, tasting of care and love). The donuts and cookies though were just ok (homemade in the meh type of way: something you feel you can make yourself). Price overall was good (less than a dollar for each item), though that wouldn't be enough to keep me coming back for more. Overall, a try-once if you're in the mood for something sweet in the area.

The famous cream puffs
Lynn M.

Came here because of the reputation. Lined up out the door on Saturday around 11am. These are nothing like any cream puff I've ever tried. The dough is dense and rich, filled with perfectly sweetened cream. Honestly amazing. I'd like to take some home to California for my family to try (something I'd never normally consider doing).

Chocolate, jelly and original cream puffs! YUMMY!

Delicious and fresh puff pastries and brownies. Not your typical donut shop. Not very busy in the winter.

The food was good but the prices were really good as well. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

I've tried carting them back to Toronto for friends to try, and they just don't hold up.

Bartliff’s Bakery & Restaurant - Daily specials on the blackboard

Small town restaurant & bakery in the heart of Clinton. Famous for their pies, donuts and other…read morefreshly baked bread items. They renovated the space a few years back to keep up with the times, but kept the old school diner stools. If you're up for it, have a coffee or a piece of pie on the stools. There's history on the walls to read, and I even spotted my aunt in one of the pictures who worked there back in the good ol' days. They do funky themed donuts everyday, along with daily specials which are posted to their social sites. The hot crossed buns are a popular menu item, as are the giant cream puffs. My personal favourite are the butterscotchy rainbow coloured marshmallow squares. You know the ones. Lastly, this place is also locally famous for being haunted, by friendly ghosts of course. Google it if you're into that sort of thing.

After having a few good breakfast experiences here, we decided to stop in for lunch…read more Started like any other lunch; we found a table, ordered drinks, got our drinks, ordered food, drank our drinks .....waited ..... Waited.......waaaaaaaiiiiiiitttteeeddddddd. we couldn't get a waitress' attention to save our lives. We debated breaking glasses, dancing on the tables, starting a riot... Anything to get another freaking glass of water. We had ordered a BLT and a Burger over an hour earlier and there was still no sign of our food. Was it ever coming? Did we even order? Maybe our invisibility potion finally worked!! That was the only logical explanation - we were invisible. After nearly 90 minutes we had no more patience left, we intercepted a waitress and asked for our order to be switched to take out. We assumed she would get the message that it was taking an unacceptable amount of time and maybe check on the kitchen .....???? Eh-NOOOOO .... I'm not convinced she heard me talking. Maybe it's a non-english-speaking restaurant and we were the only ones that didn't read the sign. Well, whatever it was, we had enough.

4 Stars to make sure this place gets some visitors and stays open…read more This is the kind of place that you dont know about unless you pass it flying down the highway or are from the area. We did the first- so when we were early to check into our Air BnB, we swung back around to check this out. Don't put off by the fact that this place doesn't seem like it has cleaned in years. The actual donut case looked pretty ok. I picture the lil old man waking up everyday and putting on his uniform of a white shirt and tan or black pants and shuffling to work. I'm not sure if the donuts are actually made on site, because it is so small, or if they are brought in and resold ( the donut bag actually was from a place in Royal Oak that I think are now closed). The prices were good though. When i walked in, the man asked if I had cash, so i think its cash only. No problem. Looking around, they do have Beer and Wine as mentioned in the signs outside, but the layer of dust on those Giant Carlo Rossi bottles was an inch thick. The coffee station was (at 2pm) looking like it was the first pot and only pot that will stay there until he closes up tonight. Also, the counter and back counter is where rnadom things go to die. Gloves, tape rolls, odd business cards, and probably anything else you would need in a scavenger hunt can be found. I say all that to say this- the man was still a charming old man who may appear a lil gruff but is most likely a big ol softy and only adds to the charm of this place. He pulled the tray out and says these are the fresh ones, so i picked a half dozen from the ones available, and he threw in a freebie as well- which was sweet of him. The cinnamon rolls were the best for sure- and were indeed very fresh. They were great when we woke up in the Air Bnb the next day with our coffee. I also picked up 2 Meat Pasties- and he gave me cooking directions- which i appreciated.
