Every hotel I've stayed at across the world -- and I travel frequently -- sends a "We're looking forward to seeing you this week" days before check-in. The OU Inn, apparently, has not discovered this technology. Instead, I received a reminder email at 7:10 PM -- after check-in had already passed. Not so useful. When I called and acknowledged my own mistake -- I genuinely did forget -- I wasn't asking for a free pass. I asked only to cancel the second night, understanding I'd eat the cost of the first. The response? A rigid recitation of the 48-hour cancellation policy by River at the front desk. On a sold-out Mom's Weekend. When hotels in Athens are turning people away for months before. The idea that they couldn't rebook that room -- on the busiest weekend of the year -- is either dishonest or incompetent. And then the cherry on top: I received a cancellation confirmation email Saturday morning, which gave me genuine hope that someone with a pulse had reviewed my situation and done the right thing.
