The coffee here is some of the least remarkable in Athens. I have tried it many times and am always left very unimpressed, too sweet and bad espresso flavor! Sandwiches are numbered which makes it easy to order. You have a choice among five different types of bread and a wide variety of sandwiches. I've tried cold and hot sandwiches and they are all very good. Chips or a choice of coleslaw or yogurt come with a sandwich. If you do not want a beverage, water is available. read more

I could not wait to give this review .. Amazingly terrible.... OMG It started with my order of three sandwiches , the shop was not terribly busy in this afternoon . I ordered and I waited , I saw people get their food who ordered after me during the 20 minute wait . I went to the counter and asked about my food , the counter girl said, " oh , I was waiting to see if you wanted anything else " REALLY !! Waiting till when ? The next day .. Then it gets better , we ordered the Turkey and pesto sandwich , We get the sandwich, and it has no meat in it .. Oops ! The counter person responded , we are short handed today ...as she said that one girl says " bye , I'm going home" This place is poorly run by non thinking students .. You know a place is good when you can see a whole menu and order the same thing over and over and over and over again. That's the case with Brenen's. I have been eating at Brenen's for over 10 years and the triple crown sandwich on a pretzel bun has consistently been amazing for those 10 years. Employees come and go in a college town but the quality of Brenen's remains the same. The atmosphere is relaxed and fits in perfectly in a college town. Brenen's various coffee drinks and smoothies are also excellent. There are so many to choose from that they have something for you whether you like black coffee or a sugary drink piled high with whip cream. Brenen's owners and staff truly cares about the Athens community. During the COVID-19 pandemic they've been giving free lunches to those in need. read more

Stopped by this place for lunch on a visit to Athens. I have not had a latte this good in a long time. I ordered their cranberry Turkey sandwich on a pita. It comes with Turkey, cranberry sauce, cheese and spinach. A simple, yet delicious meal. Their sandwiches also come with a side (i chose a bag of chips) and a pickle spear. Everything was great, and as I said earlier, the coffee was amazing. I ordered an iced Milky Way latte. It was made with real chocolate and caramel, but definitely not for those without a sweet tooth. Highly recommend this local business. read more

Awesome local small business! They've got a TON of options to choose from. Located in uptown Athens on Court Street just steps away from college green. Brenen's is the perfect place to grab a coffee & sandwich for lunch. Items on their menu are totally customizable & delicious! I usually try to grab my sandwich on one of their bagels & grab a side of chips to go with it. I've heard amazing things about their other sides - soups & pasta salads. Their sweet tea is also soooo delicious! Staff is college kids who are friendly, helpful and professional! Such a fan favorite! Sandwiches with a side are usually about $8-$10 - not the CHEAPEST. But still made with great ingredients and full of flavor! Plenty of seating here - but the establishment can get a bit busy on a Saturday around 11AM! read more

I heavily enjoy the food and drinks from here! It does take a while to get through the line and get food most of the time however it's never horrible. I really like Brenen's. The coffee is solid and I like their Tuesday deal where if you buy one specialty coffee you can come back later in the week for a free one. Brenens should only sell coffee. Like ONLY COFFEE. I spent $10 on soggy fucking pickle, un carbonated Coke, and a BLT that was strictly one pound of bacon. the only thing good about this meal was that they give you a free side, that I also didn't eat. I picked coleslaw (bold I know) and I think they just poured milk in lettuce, and that lettuce was rotten. Where are all the reviews? Does today's college generation not Yelp?! Anyhow, I will Yelp about Brenens! I love their chocolate chip cookies! They are perfection for the chewy cookie enthusiast like myself. Slightly crispy on the edges and delightfully chewy in the middle, these large (think 5 inches) cookies leave you wanting to have another! The amount of chocolate is just right. I will be honest, I have not had a better cookie anywhere! I like to bake, and am rather particular. I can't stand chocolate chip cookies that have that weird baking soda smell, which most do (to me at least). So, these fit the bill in every way for me! Also, I think they are reasonably priced. (Please don't start charging the poor college students more just because I said it's reasonably priced!) I will always stop here for cookies when I am in the area again. read more

Great stop while in Athens! I was impressed by the large selection of in-house, from-scratch baked goods, the full coffee bar, and fresh soup & sandwich menu. I would have definitely gotten one of their veggie panini for lunch, but I wanted a snack and ordered a delicious cinnamon raisin bagel with cinnamon cream cheese, and a cinnamon mocha latte. Everything was tasty! I got an oatmeal cream pie for my kids, and it was so heavenly, we wished we took more of them to go. I found Brenen's to be an awesome place to grab an early bite to eat. Their breakfast sandwiches, muffins and scones are all delicious! They have some interesting coffee drinks, including something called a "Milky Way" which is out of this world. I agree with Brian K, in that it's a great alternative to the library to get some work done. Usually they're blasting some 90s nostalgia tunes. I mean seriously, when was the last time you went over your notes while listening to Sugar Ray? Sadly, this place loses stars for their regular sandwiches. After having lunch here a few times I've never had one that's particularly "wowed" me. As a first time visitor of Athens, the staff was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful. They answered all my obnoxious questions and recommended their own personal favorites. I ended up ordering their Milkway specialty drink (iced, but you can order any of their beverages hot or cold) and one of their peanut butter cookies. Both were delicious! The coffee was TO DIE FOR and the cookie even better. Definitely recommend and will be back before I leave and next time I visit. read more

I've never had a specialty drink made properly-once a manager told an employee to make one without the key ingredient because they were out. I had her give me something else. The regular coffee is fine, but I'd rather go across the street to get the same/better coffee from Whit's for less money. The sandwiches are underwhelming and usually made sloppily. There are no vegetarian options, which is extremely unusual in Athens. Everyone seems to love this place, but despite multiple visits I can't see the allure. read more

One of my favorite spots uptown. It's a perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, read The Post or The Athens News, and watch people walking along Court St. They have a pastry counter, and coffee service at the front of the shop and a deli counter in back for soups and sandwiches. They serve the best breakfast sandwich in Athens aside from Bagel Street. They offer a good cup of coffee for a great price and creative specialty espresso drinks. The pumpkin scone is delicious! LOVE LOVE LOVE Brenan's. The only problem is that I cannot remember what I order when I go back -- so I end up getting a new sandwich every time, not that there is anything wrong with that. I love that they serve pickles with their sandwiches, and there is such a variety of food that you can choose from. My friend loves the antipasto salad, which I ordered last time I went, and while I did like it overall, it had a little bit too much dressing on it. Came in for a quick drink. Ordered a cafe americano. I was quick to be served but the employee seemed new and didn't know how to make the drink. What I received was a thin and burnt tasting americano with espresso grounds in the cup. I've been here many times and love the place but disappointed me today. This coffee shop has been a favorite of mine, but as of today, I will never return. As an OU student, I was planning on studying in the coffee shop as I have for years, but as soon as I got a table and pulled out my laptop, a worker approached me and began to yell at me in front of the restaurant. He could have easily told me their policy respectfully on who is allowed in, but instead decided to be very rude and immature about his approach. Very sad to see a local business act like this towards the very little business they are getting at this point. I am not complaining about their policy in terms of COVID, if they have one, but rather their hospitality and professionalism. I love Brenen's! I've been coming for a few years and I order an iced breve which has genuinely never been an issue and it has always been delicious. I've also made them many times for my customers at the coffee shop I work at! Today, it was an issue when the barista read my order and very meanly said "wow didn't know those existed!" And when I picked up my drink I said that I had made and ordered them before and there wasn't a need to be mean when I'm standing right there. She proceeded to say "wow really?" and a bunch of other rude and embarrassing comments. I was uncomfortable so I took everything to go. I think it was definitely a one off experience and it won't ruin Brenen's for me in the slightest, it was just really unpleasant. This is a very nice cafe for Athens to have available! Overpriced, yes. I paid 10 dollars for a sandwich and some fruit (which is wayyyy too much)... But it was a good sandwich! They have a lot of variety on sandwich's, soups, and coffee drinks. Brenen's also has a few different salad options! You CAN eat vegan here, with a good mixture of sandwich items! I did enjoy Brenen's but I cannot say that it's the best ever. read more
