Took a long time to order. Drive through prioritized at any time. Variety was terrible. Worker was distracted.

No. But there are so, so many terrible, inedible bagels out there that this is still a five star bagel place. Basically the only place I've ever gotten good bagels has been in the Hudson Valley, NY and great bagels in NYC. Even bagels from Montreal were universally lambasted by a friend group who was up visiting a few years ago. I went to Kettleman's on a snowy evening before an Ottawa 67s game, and it was solid. Chewy poppy bagel with a little crisp, nice cream cheese and a soda. Doesn't get better than that. Service was good, though perhaps a bit slow to smear some cream cheese on a bagel, about 5 minutes by my estimate. Tables and restrooms were clean and place was warm despite the cold outside.

Stopped by Kettleman's while in Ottawa and honestly wasn't super impressed. There was about a 10-15…read moreminute wait just for a bagel with cream cheese and a half dozen to go, which felt a bit long for something that simple. The bagels themselves were fine, but the cream cheese wasn't my favourite it was pretty runny and didn't have that thick, creamy texture I'm used to. Also, they pack everything in a paper bag, so it's not the same as getting bagels in a plastic bag to keep them fresh, like you would at spots back in Montreal. Overall, it's okay to try if you're curious, but personally I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Montreal bagels still win for me.

This was perfect location wise just being a short distance from our hotel. Getting into the area early Saturday morning meant tons of street parking so that was no issue. Stepping inside they have plenty of seating and I can imagine it would be a perfect spot to study for college classes for the students. The space was open and felt inviting. Service was friendly and quick with no issues. One worker taking care of drinks while another worked on the food with the one more free taking orders. They have most of what you would expect a coffee spot to have drink wise for both coffee and teas with seasonal and special flavors too. Food wise they have loads of breakfast and lunch bagel sandwich options with a good variety of bagel flavors to change it up as well. Drink wise my wife got their pumpkin latte seasonal and loved it, while I got the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte that was solid once mixed a little more. Food wise we both liked the sound of their Lumberjack that came with two eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, and a maple syrup drizzle. We differed on our bagel choice with my wife picking cinnamon raisin and I chose cinnamon French toast. Both bagels were delicious and well made and the sandwiches were tasty just would likely ask for either lighter maple syrup or none next time. Made quite a mess and made it a bit too sweet but no real complaints. We were happy to try this spot out and would be a spot we would frequent if we were local! Good drinks and tasty bagels with really endless choices for sandwiches when you consider all the bagel choices. If you want a bagel meal if you are in the area check this place out!

I have a soft spot for those in academia who leave for other pursuits ;) For some reason I know that rND stands for rue Notre Dame, but I forget the significance of this street to the bakery. Their location in Smiths Falls is not a retail store, but they do sell online and you can arrange for pick up at the location. They also deliver, and their products can be found at several health food stores such as Natural Food Pantry and Kardish. This bakery makes the best gluten-free bread and bagels in my opinion, but be advised that they do not taste like regular bread or bagels. They do not contain yeast and are very dense and textured. My husband calls it "twiggy hippie bread" implying that it tastes like it's made of twigs and is consumed by tree-hugging hippies. I do not disagree with his assessment, lol. It's not smooth Wonder Bread. It has texture and is chock-full of fibre. I love it for this very reason. I love their classic oat bagels. They are very versatile and can be used for both savoury and sweet meals. Their tomato and basil bagels and curry and onion buns are excellent for savoury sandwiches. Their cinnamon raisin bagels or bread loaves are excellent for a sweet snack. Their items are pricey. Bagels and buns are $7.50-8.50 for packs of 4 and loaves are $9-$10 each. Health Food stores may mark the items up further. Although, I sometimes get them on discount at the health food stores when they are nearing their best before date. They freeze well though, so I just pop them in the freezer. If you like breads that are dense, full of texture and high in fibre, I would definitely recommend rND products. I love them!!

There are three ordering stations. One for pastries and truffles, one for straight bagels, and one for coffee, sandwiches/bagels w/ cream cheese, ect. It took us a while to figure it out, but the staff were helpful. I ordered a sesame bagel with garlic and herb cream cheese. Hubs got a latte and the kids got a buttered bagel and fries (which comes with a paprika seasoning on top of the fries). Bagel was nice and thick, and a tad sweet. Of course I am going to compare bagels, but it gave me flashbacks to St-Viateur Bagel in Montreal. Cream cheese tasted homemade and not as salty as Kettelmans bagels. The bagels were good, and I'd go back again, but I prefer Kettlemans.

The man said that will be tricky because the chai mix is already sweetened, so he can put in less mix but the chai flavour would be less pronounced. I said I was ok with that. He was right, that my drink had a very subtle tea flavour, which I was expecting. Fortunately, I was happy with the level of sweetness of the drink. It wasn't overly sweet. It was also fairly rich and creamy. What I wasn't too thrilled about though, was the excessive amount of ice in the cup. Like half of the cup was ice :( The shop sells bagels, as per its name, as well as deli meets, desserts, some shelf stable goods, as well as a good selection of bulk Jelly Belly jelly beans, which are very popular with kids. They have some seating inside as well as outside in front of the shop. It'll update if I return to try their bagels, but I likely will not return for any iced drinks, since the cup is mostly ice. Street parking only.
