ReStore is nothing like any other thrift store I've been to. They don't have much of what you'd see at a normal thrift. This does seem like it's great for contractors though. They have a ton of home supplies here. We picked up a new dryer vent and a couple bowls. Prices were cheaper than retail and the profits go to Habitat for Humanity. When I go thrifting I like to look for things like vintage tech, clothing, video games, board games, trinkets, collectible, etc. ReStore does not carry any of those items here. But if you're looking for home stuff like doors, windows, furniture, lamps, tools, toilets, wood, fake trees, paint, and stuff like that, then this is the place for you! My mom enjoyed this place, I wasn't a big fan. It was a huge building but I felt like they could have fit more inside of it. A lot of the shelves were barely filled, and the ones that were all had dozens of the exact same item on it. There just wasn't that variety I had hoped for. Some items were little Christmas trees but had been up charged to being 10$. We had literally just seen them at dollar tree for 1/4 of the price. They also don't accept cash here which isn't a problem for me, but all the people who were in line in front of me were older and were upset that they couldn't pay in cash. Overall, it just isn't a place I'd recommend. It was ok, but if I lived by it and worked as a contractor then maybe this would be a place I'd enjoy more.

A staffer assisted us quickly & it was an easy process for him to sort through our things. If you want a receipt, fill out a form with a description of your items & they will send you an email. We decided to check out the store. The front entrance is at the opposite end of the donation area. It is a large, open warehouse to walk through with a lot of areas to browse. There are aisles of art/decor, clocks, dishware, holiday items, tools, paint supplies, & garden items, among other things. A glass case holds jewelry & collectibles. There is a long wall of lots of books. There is an area of chairs, dining tables, dressers, & other large furniture pieces. Towards the back you'll find lighting fixtures, doors, flooring, & toilets. It's fun to look around to see if anything strikes your fancy. We walked away with yard decor & some handy items. The staffer who took our donations was helpful & friendly, but the person working the register provided a perfunctory transaction.

Hastie's Capitol Sand & Gravel - Rocks spread in backyard.

We needed to replenish some of the lava rock in our backyard. We weren't sure how much we needed,…read moreso asked someone at the office if they could give us an idea of what a cubic yard looked like. He showed us a bulldozer's bucket/scooper, and said filled up it's one cubic yard. That was more than we needed, but half that seemed about right. If you want to take home the rock you buy (instead of having it delivered), here's what happens. First, you pay for what you want in the office. Then, they will (quickly) get someone to scoop it up. If you have a pickup, they can dump it right into your truck bed. We had a station wagon, and brought a bunch of boxes and 5-gallon buckets to fill up. So in that case, they made a pile of the half cubic yard, and left it to us to fill up our containers. (We'd brought a shovel, too.) Here are a few things I learned: 1). Do not come soon after it rains. Especially if you're buying lava rock. We got a lot of lava mud mixed in, and all the rock was wet. 2). A half cubic yard is much bigger than it looks! If you need to put rocks down to a 3" depth over a large area, you're going to need many cubic yards. But if you just need some to fill up areas here and there, a quarter cubic yard would have been plenty. In fact, after filling up two 5-gallon buckets, and three very large cardboard boxes, we couldn't take any more. 3). We bought 3/4". I'd estimate that only about 75% are between 1/2" to 1". The rest are bigger or smaller. Also, a guestimate of 2%-3% aren't even lava rocks. This pretty much matches what was already in our backyard (from another source), so I guess that's just the way these are sorted/sold. We needed some bags to store most of what we got for future use. I asked the man in the office, who was nice and helpful, if we could leave the rest of the rocks, and instead get some of the bags they sell. He gave me ten of them (they sell for $2 each), which I thought was very nice of him. (He did say we could instead leave the rocks there, dump our containers, and come back for the rest. But we really didn't need that many!)

I went to Hasties to pick up rock and did exactly what you're supposed to do--I brought in a gallon…read morebag of the existing rock and told them, "This is what I need." They loaded it into my vehicle, I paid, and left. When I got home, I realized it was completely the wrong material. I called back and explained the situation, expecting a simple fix. Instead, the guy at the counter told me it wasn't his problem and claimed I picked out the rock myself--which is flat-out untrue. I brought a sample specifically so they could match it, and they were the ones who selected and loaded it. The conversation turned into an argument, and ultimately I was told, in no uncertain terms, that they weren't going to do anything about it. That's not just bad service--it's zero accountability. If you value your time and money, I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else. They are unprofessional and basically, dishonest.
