Pros:
They did at least complete the job after 16 weeks
Cons:
* Took 16 weeks to complete a 2 week job of installing tile; my next door neighbors with an identical floor plan just completed their tile installation in 2 weeks, and they even had a more complicated tile pattern
* We requested charcoal color grout; they suggested we get pre-mixed grout since it is more stain resistant. When we noticed they were installing grey grout instead of charcoal they said that grey is the only shade of grey available. They later installed 25% of the grout using the wrong shade of grey, because grey is in fact not the only shade of grey available in pre-mixed (I later checked and charcoal was available in pre-mixed). They wanted to try staining the grout to make it match, but for weeks they said they couldn't find the right color stain, so I bought the stain myself on amazon and had it delivered next day.
* Most of the duration of the job was spent having them correct their mistakes. About 1/3 of the grout had to be cut out a redone. Most of this was due to installing the wrong color, and some other spots were just poorly done. Multiple chipped tiles were installed and had to be replaced. In some cases they'd put grout over the chips in order to hide them instead of replacing the tiles. Some cuts were poorly done and it would take a lot coaxing to have it be done correctly. When we pointed out spots where grout was low or poorly done, they tried to fill it in with sanded grout of a different color. This led to more rework to cut out the sanded grout to replace it with the right grout. It took way too many attempts and too much coaxing to convince them things needed to be done right.
* The work was generally sloppy. I constantly had to clean grout and thinset off the walls and cabinets, cuts were done poorly, cuts to door jambs were often not level and now I have random gaps in my doorways, appliances were damaged when moving and reinstalling, quarter round was damaged when it was being removed, some baseboards were installed upside down. The only people who seemed to care about getting the job done right were some subcontractors they hired near the end of the project (Wade & Brandon).
They typically only spent 3-4 hours a day working because they'd be handling multiple jobs at a time. I'm sure they've done good work at other jobs before, but it came clear after a few days that they weren't interested in my job and wanted to be somewhere else. read more
