MANHATTAN / Upper West Side: Looking for a fun spot with tropical vibes? Tiki Chick is a fantastic tiki-themed restaurant and bar and best of all, their outdoor seating is dog friendly! We indulged in some seriously tasty sandwiches, including the vegan tikilafel (a falafel lover's dream) and the spicy volcano chick (crispy fried chicken with just the right kick of heat). Their massive tropical drink list is a vacation in itself, and the seasonal Spooky Chick cocktail menu adds a festive twist. The "Simply Meant to Be Mezcalita" is perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. Leashed, friendly pups are welcome in the colorful outdoor area, complete with covered and heated seating for comfort. There is also additional covered seating along the street, so there is plenty of space to relax, sip something tropical, and enjoy an affordable meal in a fun, laid-back atmosphere.

Merry Grinchmas! The Christmas themed decor was the draw on this visit otherwise not a place a frequent. Of course we ordered from the Grinchmas menu! I had How the Grinch Stole Coquito $17. It was very strong and very frozen so hard for me to drink. We tried The Who Hash Fries. In general I've come to the conclusion I'm really not a fan of their fries. I had the hot dog for the first time and that's an amazing deal for $5. It's massive (foot long) and loaded with chili (Spam) and cheese. I'd get this over the chicken sandwiches going forward. It was a fun experience and we were lucky it wasn't super busy on the Sunday afternoon we went!

The appetizers, the cocktails were full proof and not watered down, but most importantly my waitress was AWESOME-SAUCE. The best fun in a loooong time, especially having stimulating convo with strangers. The effectuating ambiance is the intoxicating energy in the background.

They've solidified itself as my top 5 favorite bars in NYC. It takes away the pretentiousness and moxie of a Manhattan to create a fun, whimsical space that always leaves me beyond satisfied. The staff are angels that treated you like you just entered heaven. I suggest if you have a smaller party sit at the bar. Its tiki theme obviously- so theres a ton of extravagant cocktails. Jungle Bird and Shark Snacks are my two favorites if you want to feel like you are transported to a white sands and blue waters. Also I would I can't not forget to shoutout the bar snacks. The Tiki Fries ($5) and Pink Wave - Chicken Sandwich ($5) are delicious at an unbeatable price. One thing to be aware is that they don't have reservations so could be packed at times.

My friends and I saw that Tiki Chick had an amazing deal for food so we stopped by on friday night to grab a quick bite and some drinks! The line was quite long but we were dedicated to try. The place was packed and people were hanging out and dancing. The tables and seating alongside the outside of the bar were more chill. We got drinks and the frozen ones were amazing! We also got multiple sandwiches since it was all $5 and it was all delicious. We will for sure be back!

I had this spot saved for months, and every time I get discouraged to go there due to being little bit far from Midtown. But Let me tell you, my visit here was worth the time and the ride. Environment: It was on point, with a lot of seating a.d good music, this place is a must for brunch or catch up with a friend kind of vibe. I would note, that you might need to RSVP during high season and peak times, cause when I got there, I found a line outside. Luckily for me, my group got a table beforehand. Service: The Waitress was great she kept checking every now and then to clear the table, refill the bottle, and take in any extra/new orders we had. Food/Drink: The fact you can get a very good quality of chicken sandwich for 5$ is unbeatable, to the point I took an extra one to-go, even the size was almost the same as a regular sandwich, and the meat was the perfect size. I would note that the fries need some improvements! The Pina Colada was also a great add-on as it offered a great mix sweet and fruity taste to the drink.

The menu is simple, but why re-invent the wheel? Most cocktails are $14-16, but they're known for the piña colada ($15) and that's why we went on a rainy summer day. It was rated best in NYC, so I had to check it out. The cost for the cocktail, but their chicken sandwiches are a steal for $5. It's a no-brainer to get a drink and a sandwich. The hot honey chicken is my go-to but the s'tiki tiki is also yummy. Expect to wait a line if you don't have a rsvp. It's always crowded no matter the season because tiki is a vibe. The good news is that you can also order from a window to carry out.

Love this bar, it's one of my go-tos. Honestly, been hesitant to write this review for literally 4 years because I'd hate to blow it up and never be able to get in. But they're so great, staff, patrons, everyone, and they deserve the recognition. The $5 sandwiches are all amazing, and yes, only $5. It's your classic tiki bar, it's got very fun (very expensive) cocktails and fun cups and treats. I have never had a bad time.

I'm going to be honest when I say I did not come here for anything besides the 5 dollar hot honey sandwich special. We arrived around 2:30 on a Friday and it was empty. The bar was completely empty (it was again 2:30) but we got 2 hot honey sandwiches to go. The service is nice. You cannot call ahead and order but their website I think takes orders. The sandwichs are 5 dollars each which is an absolute steal for nyc prices. I cannot recommend those sandwiches enough. The service was nice and kind. They let us put our bags down gave us water while we waited for our sandwiches. The bathrooms are well kept and I'm a big fan of the decor on this place. The sandwiches came out within 10ish minutes and were delightful. The hot honey with black pepper provides a great kick. I truly enjoyed it and every now and then I crave more hot honey sandwiches. I was told the other sandwiches are not as good. But 5 dollars for the hot honey sandwich is definitely a deal that I will be coming back to take advantage of. Loved it.

I visited during happy hour with a large group. I ordered the piña colada and the hot honey chicken sandwich--both were delicious. The chicken sandwiches are just $5, which is an incredible deal for NYC. The drinks were pretty strong. Service was friendly and efficient, and overall the vibe was fun and relaxed. We sat outside, which was nice, though we were pretty close to the road--that was the only minor downside. Otherwise, it was a great experience, and I'd definitely come back.

This tiki bar is kitschy and fun. Get there early or you won't get a seat. The food menu is small, mostly sandwiches but they are the perfect combo with tiki drinks. They've updated the menu so you can get several cocktails low or 0% ABV.

The $5 chicken sandwiches are such a good deal and taste good as well. The frozen marg was a really good consistency. Loved the theme and for week nights it's always crowded and a fun vibe. Would highly recommend.

Cannot beat the $5 chicken sandwiches - what a great value! My party and I took our sandwiches to go so we ordered from the side window. It is about a 15 minute wait. The spam topping could have been fried a bit for some color or sauced up. The footlong hotdog was good - average hot dog but the chili improved it. I preferred the hot honey fried sandwich! The decor, outdoor patio, and music look like a fun time. Will be back for the $5 sandwiches if I'm ever in the neighborhood.

Can I stop by with my daughters who are not yet 21 years old? They would eat. I would eat and drink.

Under 21s are welcome before 7pm!

How would this place be for a casual first-date type place? Or is it too noisy for conversation?

I think it would be great, they do have music but you'll still be able to have a conversation and it's pretty much a bar with a small food menu so it works for a casual hang out kind of vibe.

    Do you take reservations?

Yes they do. During peak hours I would recommend it.

You need a password (easy to find online), and you go through a hidden door down a staircase. But it feels more like a novelty than anything else. NYC has way more iconic speakeasies, so this isn't somewhere I'd go out of my way for more than once. Nothing wrong with the vibe--it's Times Square, so you already know what you're getting--but it's definitely a one-and-done kind of spot. The drinks are good and super fun, but they're very extra (smoke, presentation, all that), so between that and how packed it gets, it can take a while just to get one cocktail. Didn't try the food. Overall, go for the pics and TikToks--it's perfect for that. I'd recommend checking it out once, but I don't really see it being a repeat spot.

Thank you, Valerie Simpson, and your late husband; Nickolas Ashford, for creating this amazing venue. The guest host for the evening was the incredibly talented Olutayo. Olutayo is joy exemplified. His vocal range, dance moves, entertaining facial expressions...infectious. I fell in love with this man and did not hesitate to tell him so. Beyond his talents was Olu's ability to manage / juggle the night's open-mic entertainers with such grace. From the lyrics of En Vogue and Salt-N-Peppa: "Whatta Man, Whatta Man, What a Mighty Good Man!" All of the entertainers were incredible. What a range of singers, dancers, a poet, a violinist. And the band! The band! The band! Come on!! Outstanding. I was seated next to Darius, one of the several background vocalists that were positioned throughout the lounge. We became fast friends in this space filled with exuberance. Darius was a delight. He was also a big brother to me, making sure no one blocked my view of the performance. Thank you, Darius, that was so kind of you. I had such a wonderful time being in the company of all these amazingly talented people. It was a 6-hour dopamine rush that should not be missed. The dinner that was served was top-notch. I had the Sea Bass. My friend had the Golden Fried Chicken. Both meals were delicious. I had the ginger mocktail with rosemary and blueberries - so yummy I had two. Dessert was key lime pie - suffer we will. Our server; Vickie, was a delight and amazing to observe as she maneuvered around the performers and kept us and everyone around us well served and continually hydrated. Vickie is to be commended for how hard she worked throughout the evening. I made sure our tip reflected our appreciation of her. Put the Sugar Bar on your bucket list when visiting NYC. You'll leave there feeling you have experienced Heaven on Earth.

The day before our dinner, I got an email, text, and telephone call to confirm our reservation. I asked if our seats were assigned to a specific table. I was told the assignments would be available the next morning. We arrived about 45 minutes before our reservation time. We were told that we could NOT go to the bar without paying the $20.00 per person door fee for the show. That night was open mic night. I was so eager to support this business because of its owners. We were also told we could NOT be seated early. We paid the money and waited. The tables in the bar area were reserved. When our reservation time arrived, in lieu of being seated where we could see the show we paid for, we were taken upstairs. I asked where the upstairs stage was located. There was NO stage. Instead, there was a 20 inch television hanging on the adjacent wall. We waited 45 minutes to watch a television upstairs away from the open mic show. I have included a picture from our vantage point. When I asked why we had not been seated in the open seats on the floor with the stage, I was told that some of the performers brought friends and our table was given to those individuals. Our money would not be refunded. I asked repeatedly why we were being moved and the hostess indicated that she did not make any decisions and the seats were going to be given to others. Those folks had not arrived and had not made any reservation. Thus, making a reservation was a waste of time. Then there was the food. I figured no one could mess up hot wings. I was wrong. The lemon pepper wings had no lemon and no pepper. It was just dropped into some butter. I had "buttered" wings. No seasoning except butter. Every member of our group remarked that the food was NOT good. I left 3/4 of the food on the plate. I was SORELY disappointed. Even sports bar have food don't string their customers along, make them wait 45 minutes, and then stash them away in heaven (i.e. upstairs). I could have watched better entertainment on Youtube. I will not be returning and I am telling everyone that I had bragged to about my upcoming birthday outing at the Sugar Bar that they should NEVER visit this place. No one cared that we were utterly disappointed with the trickery regarding the seating.
