Martha was amazing. I wanted to go to Tijuana but hadn't been back since party times long ago. I was on a solo trip in San Diego and this seemed cool, and I was glad I booked it. First, I found out what meeting time was, and Martha answered all my questions. I planned to try a restaurant and walk into Mexico by myself, which was perfectly safe. After the border you cross the street to the taxi line and negotiate your price to go to wherever you wanted. I mention this because Martha just let me know where and when to meet up with the group. So if you are like me, you can come early and see things not on the tour like the beach, or have breakfast and lunch on a peso budget and still do this tour after. You may also meet her and the group in San Diego and you will cross fine with your passport. She does get you back to the border that evening. I loved the local places we went, and it was more walking, less shopping, although you go through a local market and shopping areas and can buy things. You get a real flavor of a local person's view including history. Martha speaks English well, went to school in California and brings you into a world where it is like you are visiting a friend who is taking you around. The price +tip was extremely reasonable. She never got impatient and answered questions cheerfully with an element of lemme-break-it-down realness. I would take the exact same tour just to hang out. I met some fun people on the tour - best of all Martha!

Lots of people are reluctant to see Tijuana because, admittedly when you're there you're "not in Kansas, anymore." Don't miss the opportunity. This was a great tour given by a knowledgeable resident. There were only the five of us from my family that signed up for the Cultural Tour on the day we picked, but Sylvia went out of her way to customize for what we were interested in. She had set locations she wanted to get to in the time we had, but will point out things that we were interested in and answered any questions we had about the places we saw and the TJ in general. Sylvia coached us on the different taxi systems. TJ also has a municipal bus service, but getting around in the van taxis was quicker and a good way to learn Tijuana and the people who live there (and the drivers who drive). I won't detail the whole trip, but in the short day we had we saw ancient, old, and modern TJ and Mexico. We talked about the border, new and old walls and how things have changed for the families that live, work, and study on both sides. We visited markets and ate good food; saw churches (sadly no festivals while there). Saw how there is a new generation trying to lift of the city. And we walked and crossed the streets of Tijuana from the border crossing at San Ysidro to the beach. The recommended amount of money for traveling and purchases was US$20, but I'd up it to US$25 or 30. Remember that anything you buy you have to carry, but there are good values and tasty treats you won't want to miss. We'd do it again when we are near.

My in laws were in town and we wanted to take them to TJ. This walking tour was a prefect find. Sylvia, our awesome and kind tour guide was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and insightful. She was on time, funny and showed us some cool and upcoming locations in Tijuana. Sylvia is awesome and we highly recommend her. We went to some local breweries, street taco shop for dinner, local markets and even a tequila bar. Thanks again for everything and will take a tour with Sylvia again.

What an amazing experience. This is hands down the best tour you could possibly take of Tijuana. Amazing food, beautiful sights, super friendly guides. Don't look anywhere else, Martha & Fernando will take care of you like you are family!

This was a great day trip from San Diego. Our group of 4 was originally hoping to join a public tour, mainly for the price difference. We ended up having to book privately but found it was worth it. We were able to make special requests in addition to what Fernando had in mind. Fernando is very laid back, knowledgeable and shared just the right amount of information and sights to get the most out of our 5 hour trip. I learned so much about Mexican culture and Tijuana as a city. The store owners at the market were very gracious in offering samples to us. We definitely stuck out as tourists, but all were friendly and patient including bus drivers and store owners. I wouldn't have minded skipping the strip of souvenir shops where owners were quite pushy but it was on the way, on one of the main streets. Overall, I would definitely recommend this company for a tour - for anyone that has any doubts, you will be in good hands with your tour guide.

Martha is amazing, and gave us an outstanding tour of Tijuana. She met us in San Diego and took us all around downtown Tijuana, and gave us a taste of the real city, from great little places to eat and drink to museums to streets and districts of town that we would otherwise never have thought to see on our own. She pointed out many interesting historical places in town and explained changes in the town's recent history, and answered all our questions very knowledgeably. Without her expert guidance I would never have gotten such an authentic experience of the city. She is also a very kind person, and you will enjoy getting to know her if you're lucky enough to have her as your tour guide. I highly recommend Tijuana Walking Tour.

These are fantastic walking tours of San Diego…read more The fact of the matter is, San Diego DOES have history ... you just have to look for it. And there are few people better than Patty (Ms. Urban Safari herself) to show it to you. Urban Safaris offers guided walking tours of different San Diego neighborhoods, ranging from urban centers like the Gaslamp Quarter and La Jolla to Balboa Park and the open canyons around town. Patty, a long-time San Diego resident, teacher and historian, knows more about the city than anyone I know. And she has a knack for noticing fascinating things that most of us pass every day without even a second's notice. Usually, there's a tour every weekend, leaving on Saturday at 10am and lasting about two hours. The specific location depends upon the neighborhood of the week, but you can find out by making a reservation with Patty on the website, by sending her an email, or even by calling the number. Space is usually limited to about 15, so it's good to make your reservations early. On the other hand, San Diegans are notorious un-curious about their city, and so the tours often (and unfortunately) have plenty of space. The best way to find out about the tours is through the website, although they are occasionally advertised in the San Diego Reader (under 'Local Events') and Patty can give you a paper schedule when you go on your first tour. They don't happen every weekend (because Patty travels and spends a lot of her time researching new tours); but there are 'seasons', and when a new schedule comes out it will usually list tours for weeks and even months in advance. Really, I can't say enough about these tours. I've learned a ton. Most of all, I've found a great, new way to appreciate the wonderful city we share. PS - The tours don't necessarily leave from Horton Plaza. I just put that there because Yelp required that I put a specific location. Really, this isn't the kind of thing that has a specific location -- it changes each week with the particular tour. Just go to the website to find out where the next tour is leaving from.

Think you know San Diego?…read more If you don't, definitely come on one of these walking tours. And even if you think you do, still come, because there may be a thing or three that you may very well learn and give you a greater appreciation for the community. Like Ethan said, these tours take you to various neighborhoods in San Diego: North Park, Hillcrest, Gaslamp, South Park, East Village, Mission Hills, etc. Each last between 1.5-2 hours. Along the way, Patty points you to various landmarks and oddities in each neighborhood and provides the history and background of each. In addition, she also shows some historical pictures in context to today's landscape. In addition to researching herself, many people have donated their knowledge and information that have gone on the walks themselves, adding even more rich history from people who actually have grown up and seen the changes in San Diego. AMAZING - THIS SHOULD BE A "MUST DO" on your list!…read more I've been following Club Tengo Hambre for years - but finally decided we should do it. My friend treated she and I to the Valle de Guadalupe tour for my birthday! We showed up in San Ysidro and was greeted by the amazing "Ana" - if you go, please request her - she's so knowledgeable about the area and an absolute joy to be around all day. We walked across the border (super super easy) and met up with Alejandro (our driver). We stopped by a local taco spot followed by a trip down the coast. You get to see Rosarito and Ensenata before heading up in to the valle! We stopped at two wineries - one family owned (no one there except us) and the other was women owned - both were such a delightful, peaceful experience. The Wine? AH-MAZING!!!!!! Final stop - I won't ruin the end of the movie for you - but let's just say you won't be disappointed. Advice - you can get around with flip flops, etc. They recommend closed toe shoes but sandals (or your favorite wine tasting attire is perfect). Bring a light jacket just in case!

Violeta did a great job picking every place. Many times the food or drinks on tours are just okay. But we loved the breakfast tacos, the charcuterie board was one of the best I have had, and dinner was great and it had an amazing view of the sunset. The drive down to Valle De Guadalupe was very scenic. i was surprised at the quality of wine in Mexico. I had low expectations but we enjoyed the wines and the wineries in Mexico are very generous with their pours. I would highly recommend this if you have someone visiting or if you want to get a group of friends together to celebrate . Violeta was very knowledgeable and friendly. They also can arrange private tours as well.
