This is the best place to get your fishing tackle on Long Island, especially for Stripers in the Hamptons! I was a little discouraged about going into another tackle store. A different tackle store about 30 miles west basically ignored me and assumed I was buying a tackle box for my boyfriend. What a difference at Tight Lines Tackle! The owner, Ken, immediately asked how he could help me. He spent a lot of time asking me questions about what I wanted to do, how often I would fish and where I would be fishing. He took the time to explain the different options I had, what plugs and tins to use under what conditions, and how to properly take care of my gear. He didn't steer me to the most expensive rods and reels. He recommended exactly what would work for me, and suggested after a few years if I found myself getting more involved, to what gear I could upgrade. He told me if I ever had a problem with any of my tackle, to just bring it in to the store and he would help me. This was one of the best experiences I've ever had in any store. Over the years, I have randomly stopped in various other stores in the Hamptons, and found their selection sorely lacking. Not so here! Ken stocks his store well, so I was able to purchase less expensive but durable gear for my kids, as well as higher quality gear for myself. There's a huge selection of baits and plugs on the wall and Ken took the time to explain the main items I would need and in which color to cover most of the conditions I would encounter. I have some friends who heard about the incredible Montauk fishing, especially Stripers. They were considering buying their gear online and heading to Montauk. I told them they needed to drive by Ken's store to get there, so to stop in and they wouldn't be sorry. A few days later they called me to thank me! They were able to tap Ken's vast knowledge of fishing, where to go and when, and what species were the most active during what times of the year. Instead of just fishing, they caught fish! If you've ever thought about trying fishing for the first time, or if you are a competitive tournament fisherman, this is THE place to go. BEST place to get your tackle in the Hamptons. Unbeatable customer service, huge selection compared to anywhere else for 30+ miles. This shop is a registered weigh station, and has rods, reels, lures, line, clothing, nets, reel repair, tackle boxes, live bait; this store has it all. There is equipment ranging from the beginner just starting out to the hard core professional out 100+ times a year. Note that the shop is on the side of the building in the large dirt parking lot. The owner Ken is a local with a degree in ecology (specialty in marine biology) who has been fishing these waters for decades. He is a wealth of knowledge, which he freely shares with anyone who comes in. Even more importantly, he is HONEST. I walked in thinking of a $700 Van Staal Reel. Ken spent over an hour asking about how often I fish, where I fish, what types of fish I'm targeting, what types of lures I intend on using, etc. He steered me to a reel which was 1/4 of the price I was intending to pay. How many places would do that?? Ken goes the extra mile to make sure every single customer gets personalized attention, and the gear they actually need. If you are tempted to save $2 getting something on Amazon, DONT. The hours of knowledge he shared with me is worth hundred of dollars that a guide would charge. When you think of Montauk, you think Stripers (Striped Bass). Ken spent 30 minutes marking out a map of all the best striper fishing spots: not only from shore but from boat. Additionally, he explained where the blue fish, weak fish, porgies, fluke, etc will be during different times of the year. Again, I can't stress how fantastic the customer service is here. I've been back 4 times since then, and wouldn't consider buying my tackle anywhere else. Fishermen and guides regularly stop in and chat, so its also a fantastic place to ask questions about where the action is and get to know other fishermen. Guys, you owe it to yourself to check out this dudes gear. I was amazed by his selection that's aimed at our local waters. The owner Ken was incredibly helpful to a novice like myself. He's got it all, used to ultra high end. Honestly I wish I knew about this place years ago. Most tackle shops are staffed with unsociable fisherman but not this place.
