I bumped into the owner (TKD & BJJ Black Belt instructor) Jimmy Holmes before they opened this new location as I was peering through the windows after getting a coffee next door. I ended up getting a full tour of the facility & the plans for their use of the back building to be a competition/tournament sized mat space with a weight training setup as well. It is a beautiful facility, they're still doing upgrades here & there, but my favorite little fact about it is that the dumbbell rack in the back goes all the way up to 150lbs!! They offer a great selection of youth classes with a mix of high level men & women instructors. The team, THE TEAM!! They have competition medal winners across the board in martial arts & a great team atmosphere! Boys, girls, men, women, tons of competitors & winners, but minimal ego. Personally, I was only living here while I completed an internship for my degree program, but they've been very welcoming & accommodating during my short stay with them. I look forward to visiting in the future & getting some rolls in on a Sunday Open Mat or Warrior Wednesday where we just roll 10 rounds in lieu of a structured BJJ class. All love, I'll be back!

Positives: Master Mark the owner was willing to coordinate with us on scheduling and the kids being beginners trying something new. The location is wonderful with a large facility, ample seating, and clean well-kept space. Our kids learned the basics and overall enjoyed their time spent at Double Dragon including the joy of earning their first belts. Master Mark was also attentive to our kids as they learned the basics, stepping in to help when they needed additional instruction. Negatives: Our primary reason for not committing to this business long-term is that our kids are used to positive reinforcement through their school and at home and we found the approach Double Dragon uses to be contrary to our values. At times, it was reminiscent of boot-camp for kids. A second concern is that Master Mark was not present as often as we would expect. There are two young adults/older teens that lead the lessons on a regular basis as confirmed by other reviewers. From an outsider perspective, there are some behaviors of these two young leaders that indicate immaturity and getting their ego fed by pushing young children to do their bidding by shaming and belittling. We do believe this is what they have been taught as a leadership approach modeling Master Mark. Also not appropriate for children, in our opinion, is the sexually inappropriate music choices playing during practice. Finally, we signed up during COVID and found very little enforcement of parental masking. If you are looking for a place of old-school discipline, where your kids will be pushed to their limits and beyond through threats and punishments, then this might be a good fit for your family. Overall, it was not the right fit for our kids, and we would not recommend this business.

Master Howard leads the classes in patterns, sparring, and board breaking, from beginner to advanced. Master Howard is a seventh degree black belt (out of a possible nine) and has a wealth of knowledge for any level of TKDer. No one is too young or old to TKD. From age 5 to 105, there are all ages, genders, physical backgrounds, and professions that participate. TKD is a great work out and self defense training. I've taken a few beginner classes, but TKD just isn't my cup of tea. The students that come here are very energetic, ready to learn, and train hard. They have regular belt-testing and bi-yearly black belt testing, so if you work hard you can advance fairly quickly. They have several students that compete on a national and international level, so if you're looking for motivation to get in shape, they'll do it. Seating is limited, so if you're here to observe a class or belt testing, be sure to arrive a bit early and bring a blanket - they keep the dojo quite cold, so that the students don't get too hot.

He also trains the students to teach and lead as well, which helps with many other facets of their lives. Consequently he has many well-equipped black belts to help with classes. Since starting at Global Taekwon-Do one year ago, we have seen drastic improvements in physical strength and flexibility, coordination, confidence, self-control, self-discipline, and respectfulness. The schedule is very accomodating and students may go to class however often they want to, be it once aweek, or up to 5 times a week, for the same monthly dues. There are price breaks for multiple members of the same family. It's a great inter-generational activity, as parents and children can go to class at the same time and advance through the levels together. We HIGHLY recommend Global Taekwon-Do.
