Your kids could be out for a week or a month, as long as he gets his monthly membership fee you'll never hear a peep. " Hey is your kid ok? Haven't seen them in a while.?"... Nope. Classes are chaotic and undisciplined. Says "he's not there to discipline but to teach jiu jitsu". I call bullsh*t! As a teacher and coach you ARE supposed to discipline students or players that are being disruptive or not doing what their supposed to or not showing good sportsmanship. With regard to coaching, he is completely disorganized in that new students are not taught basics and fundamentals effectively before being other techniques, ie trying to build a house without paying a foundation. One would think or hope that a coach and school would care more about it's students, especial when we brought more people and families to train there. But I guess as long as they are paying their monthly fees that's all that matters. Our previous coach in Los Angeles cared and provided continued discipline with high expectations of students and parents. Miss a session you'd have a call or text to see if things were ok. If someone was late or disrespectful, push up, sit ups, drills. Our girls knew to work hard and that their coach cared about them beyond just jiu jitsu. They trained hard for him because they grew to care and love the sport... Because he cared! That is lost with "coach" Jerome. Save your money! Find a different studio.

I've been hearing about this new Jiu Jitsu place and decided to just pop in. I didn't speak with…read moreanyone beforehand about my visit. I walked in just after 7pm and there was a class already in progress. One of the students (Laura) came off the mats to greet me as both instructors were in the middle of a demonstration. After a very warm welcome Laura invited me into the main area to sit and observe the class. I quickly realized this is an awesome place to learn Jiu - Jitsu. From just watching from the sideline, I could see they start you off with the self-defense aspect of Jiu-jitsu such as protecting yourself against someone who does not know Jiu-jitsu and is trying to knock you out. They gave great attention to safety and why you should move/grab in certain ways. One to help you be most effective but also to perform the maneuver in a way where you don't hurt yourself. I then talked to coach Jacob Mata as he walked over to greet me and explain what exactly was going on in this class and how the overall program is set up. As you progress and learn how to defend yourself from street dangers, then they train you in how to go against people that know Jiu-jitsu. It was clear Graice Jiu-Jitsu Mayde Creek provides a solid foundation and balance curriculum. The best of both worlds. As someone that has done traditional karate, boxing, and MMA it was really refreshing to see the culture at this school has a family feel, ego free, friendly, and a safe environment. Everyone is trying to help each other improve so they can improve themselves simultaneously. Coach Jacob is very knowledgeable in the art but most importantly he is student centered. He is all about their development. He did an amazing job walking the students step by step and insuring they had a full understanding before moving on to the next steps. After the coaches were done demonstrating the students then practiced on each other as the coaches watched and provided assistance. At one point I heard them tell the students to switch partners so they can practice and get a feel for someone with a different body type and size. This is a great practice as you never know the who you be defending yourself from when the time comes. I then met coach Lyle Mathes which was probably one of the nicest 6'5" (guessing) guys I've ever met. He does not have his students in class bask in how long he has been a brown belt or his accolades. Instead, he encourages them to develop their skills so they may pass on the gift to others. It is a privilege to meet him and watch him interact with the students. The family feel was felt again at the end of class as I approached by multiple students of all belt colors, introducing themselves and making small talk with me before leaving. I'm so excited to start my journey here and I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to get into Jiu-Jitsu.

Coach Cruz is a great teacher, he really observes each student and focuses on your weaknesses. This is hugely important in Jiu Jitsu as a tiny detail can make all the difference in finishing a move or putting yourself in a bad position. The school just moved to a new location and they did a great job with the studio. This is definitely the nicest and cleanest mma gym I have ever been to. I know they offer a 2 week free trial and have open mats every Saturday, so if you have ever been interested in learning a martial art come by and check it out.

Classes are well-paced to meet the needs of students at every level, and Master Cruz is a genuinely strong (5th dan black belt) and passionate instructor who has worked with some of the best in the sport. He does a great job of teaching techniques in ways that keep his students engaged and attentive. Master Cruz is the real deal, and his staff keep the studio running smoothly every time we come to class. The monthly rate is reasonable, and you get quality training with a focus on safety and innovative teaching. I would highly recommend Valor to anyone who seeks excellent instruction in TKD and/or Jiu-jitsu.
