I was really nervous at first because of the thought of grappling with other people but my friend recommended the Maven Jiu Jitsu Academy because of the Professor James Quan and I am glad he did. Professor James comes from a teaching background that translates extremely well into his teaching style and the atmosphere that he creates at this academy which is really incomparable to anything other academy that I have ever experienced. Over the years, I have had the honor to train at several other academies around the country while traveling, including some of the most popular and well respected academies as well as many of the surrounding academies in the greater Houston area and one thing that I can say without a doubt is that this place is special. They are super friendly and welcoming of new students with no experience and that is what really made me stick to this environment for such as long time. It takes away all the anxiety that you get from starting a combat practice like this and really makes you feel at home. I have been so glad to witness my transformation through training not just in a self defense aspect but also physically, mentally and through the many friendships that I have gained. They also have a great kids program that I enrolled both of my kids in and they absolutely love it.
