Our family has been a GMA family forever. My husband got his blackbelt from GMA in 2004; our son has been enrolled in tae kwon do and jujitsu there since he was four, and I take cardio kickboxing there as well. I've been to other martial arts places in other states and here in Houston, but GMA has become part of our family. Owner/lead instructor Jimmy Holmes is always firm and fair with the kids, and he and his wife Hope and their fellow instructors Holly Rogers and Bryan Self have been unfailingly calm, relaxed, and professional with my son, who has ADHD. They've helped him enormously through the worst of medication imbalances, and I can see his growth in self-control and maturity on the mats through their leadership and example. The mid-morning cardio class lead by Hope Holmes is honestly one of the highlights of my week, every week. Hope provides an encouraging atmosphere, and can readily help to tailor a workout around *any* body and its limitations, while helping to build strength and endurance. It's a family-friendly atmosphere here, with several moms bringing their youngest with them, and older kids are welcome to join in and 'compete' with their parents occasionally during vacations. Some background: My wife and I are in our early 40's and our kids are 7 and 9. My sons and I have been with GMA a little over 2 years. GMA has several different types of classes.
