And still not better. Two months go by and it's apparent that at least one of the new struts has failed. Confirmed by independent shop (our regular shop). Took the car back to Brakes Plus to have the strut replaced under warranty. Found out both struts failed. Interesting and pretty coincidental. Work done on 4/27/23. Went to pick it up after leaving it for a day. Was told there was issues with the stabilizer bars that had to be changed. When I looked surprised, the technician said "oh, didn't someone call you to talk about that?" No, no they did not. Two days later, I notice a lot of grease thrown around the driver side front wheel well. Closer inspection revealed several holes in the outer CV joint seal. Again went to independent shop and they said the holes were undoubtedly caused by heat from a torch, as when someone might cut away a seized bolt in a stabilizer link. At this point we've decided that B+ cannot be trusted to "fix" anything so we had our regular shop put a new CV joint on. All good now right? Nope! We started noticing more and more front end noise again over the next or so. Thought maybe the struts were going out again. Not the case though, as it was found that the bolts on the stabilizer links were not tightened by Brakes Plus. On one side the bolts were almost falling out and the other side were hand tight. We've tried multiple time to get this situation resolved and have only received cursory responses that offer nothing in the way of progress. And we've spent nearly $1,300 having these mistakes fixed elsewhere because we have no confidence that Brakes Plus could competently get us on the road again and not have another issue small or large. In short, if you value your time, money, and peace of mind that your driving a safe vehicle when you leave a repair shop, look somewhere else.

I was told the work on my car would cost $500. I left the car with them, and it sat in their garage for a week with no updates. Then suddenly, they said I would have to pay $2,100. Two days later, they changed the price again to $2,700. The next day, they said they would give me a 10% "first-time discount" and finally charged me $2,500. All of this was for just fixing the AC. To make it worse, they broke my front bumper in the process. When I asked them to fix it, they didn't take responsibility--instead, they called the police on me. The owner was very rude and unprofessional. I strongly believe they took advantage of me because I am a refugee and not fluent in English. This place is dishonest and abusive. I regret ever trusting them and will make sure no one else from my community makes the same mistake.

I received my inspection report within a few hours, and I am so so happy I did this! This was the most in depth, thorough prepurchase inspection I have ever gotten. My suspicions were right on with the vehicle. At 120,000 miles, I saw that the Carfax didn't mention any maintenance or service past the 100,000 mile mark, BIG red flag! At that mileage there's much that needs to be done...timing belt, all fluids flushed, possible water pump, gaskets, shocks/struts, etc. None of that had been done to this car, resulting in needing a timing belt replacement (I thought I heard the faint sound of it being worn out when I test drove it), shocks/struts, gasket leaks, and a new alternator, to the tune of around $7,000. Oh, and the kicker was they found that there were several diagnostic codes that were recently cleared. Hmmm, wonder who cleared those? Needless to say, I did not purchase this vehicle. I did inform the dealership that was selling it of the issues, and as you can imagine, they didn't care and said that Christian Bros was making stuff up so they could sell me more services. Um, you're also trying to sell me something and it smells like lemons! Christian Bros has never let me down, and I've never done business with you. BTW- we live in Ankeny and Christian Bros has been our go to for honest, reliable car repairs. I will continue looking and will always bring my cars to them, they are the best!
