Wish I knew about this place while I lived in NYC. I'm in Miami now and was looking for custom made ties for my size with a specific width to match my suit lapels. I spoke to Andy over the phone the first day and he was very pleasant. I was not sure at first because I was never able to see the fabric, I just told him what color I wanted. I bought an Hermès scarf from an auction house for my MIL that had lipstick and grease stains peppered throughout the gold and cream scarf. I called around the Boston area and but was leary when noone would assure me that the stains could be removed or that their cleaning methods would remove the lipstick. I sent the scarf via USPS priority on a Friday, received confirmation of receipt on Monday and the cleaned scarf arrived back on Thursday. It was a beautiful job. It was pressed but not stiff, the edges were square and it looks much better than when I sent it in. read more

Gents -- the ONLY PLACE IN THE COUNTRY where you should trust your tie cleaning. If you're like me, you've had dry cleaners and even dept. store tailors screw up your nice ties when trying to clean them. Either they don't stitch them back right, and it 'bubbles' on the sides, or the fluid leaves a glaring shine on the spot where the stain(s) was/were. This place seemed very promising and the only one of its kind in this area. I had very high hopes for Tie Crafters after reading other reviews and looking at their website. Went in person and dropped off four ties to be cleaned and pressed. They said it would take 1-2 weeks and they would call when it was finished but turnaround was much quicker than expected (less than a week). The ties were all originally in fairly good condition with the exception of one tie having a "line" down the middle from being ironed by a dry cleaners and another with light water/food stains. They returned the ties in a nice box but when I opened it later, all I received was disappointment. At least three of the four ties had new crease marks and lines on the front from being improperly pressed. Another review said they would remove existing lines from being ironed or improperly pressed which they did not. The main reason I went to this place was because they were supposedly careful with their work and paid high attention to detail. After all, I am paying $12.75 per tie so I don't think its too much to ask... one of the new crease marks was zig-zagged shaped and looked permanent. It was almost as if the fabric was torn and somehow restitched together. Another tie looked shiny in different spots under natural lighting. It's safe to say the whole process seemed rushed and was clearly a sloppy job. Maybe I didn't give explicit enough instructions as to what I wanted but I assumed they knew what they were doing when it came to simple cleaning and pressing of ties. I had planned to go back and have a tie slimmed but I doubt I will be making that trip anymore after this experience. read more

My apartment rained from above. A leak 4 floors up had made its way down to me and showered my clothes and ties and shoes with stinky water. My ties were devastated. After being soaked, cleaned, then drying, they were twisted and puckered and absolutely ruined. Even my insurance company did not hesitate to declare them a total loss. I found tie crafters online and decided to give them a try for 3 of my favorites first and see how it went. It was perfect! The ties were completely opened, relined, and cleaned. I even had them thin out 2 older ties to the new width. And all is perfect. They gave them new life. I would have cost me near $600 to replace 2 Hermes and 1 Versace tie and I would not be able to get exact replacements anyway since they were 4-5 years old. I'm unnerved by some of the recent comments I see. Maybe something has changed, but I have taken ties here for years. I don't know anyone in the City who does a better job with neckwear and scarves. They've gotten spots out of ties I didn't believe could be saved; ties always come back in great shape. They're not cheap (although, compared to the price of good tie these days, having your ties cleaned by these guys remains a very good investment), and they're not exactly in the most convenient location in the world. But I never send my ties or my wife's silk scarves to the dry cleaners -- I always bring them to Tiecrafters. Would have given them 4.5 stars if the system allowed. Recommended. read more

From dealing with Andy in getting the initial requirements, to him even recommending a better quality fabric store that was cheaper, to having the ties finished (and earlier than expected), the entire experience was extremely professional and one of the easiest custom order experiences I've ever had. I've sent several ties here now to have them cleaned and in some cases shortened and relined. They have done a fantastic job every time especially when it comes to getting stains out. After several negative experiences with local cleaners, whose solution is apparently to overpress everything, I am a lifetime Tiecrafters customers. I only wish they would start accepting credit cards and be more transparent on where the ties are in being processed for out-of-state customers. Tiecrafters is unprofessional, rude, and worse of all, poor at their sole craft. I decided to feed into the hype and let them slim five ties from the fat trend a few years ago into mid-fats. I provided explicit directions and also provided a tie with the exact measurements for reference. What I received were five skinny hipster ties that were no where near my specifications. I phoned Tiecrafters and politely explained my predicament, and was rudely told that I could pay to have them widened (with not even a discount) , but that Tiecrafters may not have left the adequate material. I brought my ties to a local tailor, who confirmed that they did not leave material to have the ties widened. Now I am not only out $75 for alterations, but also five beautiful ties. read more

I don't know about you but I just love people who do one thing and do it really really well. That's Tiecrafters. Talk about old school quality. I had two (pricey) silk scarves that had grease spots on them (I don't know how that happened!), and when I took them to my local cleaners they would not guarantee that they could do anything with them. I called my local Hermes store in Beverly Hills and the only place they recommend is Tiecrafters - all the way in New York City! I felt a little silly but I packaged up my scarves and sent them on a trip to New York. They came back PERFECT. If you are a collector of silk scarves then you know how important the hand-rolled edges are, and Tiecrafters make sure not to press them so they come back as fluffy as when you sent them. If you are obsessed with the details, you can trust Tiecrafters. And they guarantee their work to boot. P.S. I also sent them a silk tie that had a big grease stain on it and it also came back PERFECT. read more

I now live in Miami Beach and during my recent NYC trip( growing up, I saw their NY Times Magazine ad for years) I brought Andy, a Ted Baker, Christian Lacroix(red lined of course) Ralph Lauren and a Faberge Egg tie to narrow and clean and update and he shipped them all back to me and I just opened the box. Kudos to a fast turn around time and spectacular work and excellent customer service, Exceeded my expectations. Like that he included UPS pak and mailing label for future work. read more

Absolutely horrible. Took a new $100 tie there to be pressed, and it came back a mess. It was clearly unsewn and stitched back together and the stitching is shoddy. It's held together by 3 or 4 individual sideways stitches in the back. When I put the tie on I can feel the fabric moving. After wearing this a few times I know the tie will completely come apart because it is no longer sewn together tightly like when how it came. Additionally, they actually changed the look of the tie. Where the pattern ends is in a different location than where it was when I brought it in. This may not sound like much but if you know anything about ties, the way the pattern falls on the tie is important. They charged me $25 for this garbage. I hope Tie Crafters can somehow make this right, but if this is how they do "expert work" I doubt it. read more

Like others, I came here because I needed to get a special tie cleaned from a stain and this place had several great reviews on Yelp. Andy appeared to be a nice guy focused on great customer service. I gave him my tie for cleaning, and never saw it again. I called to check in on my tie after 30 days and was told that it was lost and that it would be replaced full cost. I thought fine - at least he'll pay replacement cost for his mistake. I bought the new tie and waited for my reimbursement... and waited and waited after trying to reach him over 10 times without him returning my calls. I received my payment 3 months after dropping it off for a cleaning. Why am I writing this review? Because Andy had the nerve to deduct $17 on the check from the replacement cost for cleaning. It never ends with this guy. You would think after 3 months of headache and him not being transparent about what the status of my lost tie was, he would just replace it without questions. He just had to charge me for cleaning of a tie that was never cleaned and lost by his own staff. Classic Andy. Steer clear of this place if you care about your tie - it might end up being lost in his shop. read more

I must wear a tie to work every day. Over the years I've accumulated a number of ties that back in the day might have had a fashionable width but rather than waiting for them to come back in style, I sent them to tiecrafters for narrowing. The results were fantastic.The ties were perfectly sized to my specs and in a few cases with some of the more worn ones they added a new keeper or repaired the old one. Do NOT send your Hermes silk scarves to this place. They RUINED 3 of my scarves. They put PINHOLES in the corners and flattened the hems. Hermes has agreed to give me three brand new scarves because they are the ones who recommended TieCrafters. My sales Associate was also pissed off and embarrased by how they ruined my scarves. DO NOT send your precious Hermes items to this place. I was also told how great they were - don't believe the hype. You don't need to pay Hermes $35 each for this shit service. Go to your local drycleaner and educate them on how to care for your Hermes scarf. No pinholes in the silk (DUH!) and do not flatten the plump hems (Another DUH!). I had never heard of these guys until I was recommended to use them by the Hermes store in Tyson's Corner. So, I sent an assortment of 4 ties - two Hermes, one Brioni and one Burberry. Three of the four had wrinkles formed over the years and were just not coming out either through steam, iron, or dry cleaning. The fourth had a food stain. Just got back all four today and I must say that I was impressed with their workmanship. The wrinkles are 99% out (hey, my Burberry tie is 10+ years old!), and I am happy with the way the ties look. My Brioni had been dry cleaned twice in two months (it's attracted to food), and my dry cleaner had basically "ironed in the seam from the back into the front of the tie" - that has now been removed. I don't live in NYC, so I mailed in the ties and check. Quick turnaround time! They also sent me a prepaid label for my next order. Now I need decide which are the next four to send in... read more

Absolutely amazing! I sent in 8 ties to have them narrowed, and they came back perfect. I like my ties a little slimmer than the standard 3.5" but not ridiculously skinny, so it's hard to find the width that I like. I thought I would give them a try to see what kind of work they'd do, and I'm glad I did. I now don't have to worry about finding ties of the right width; I can just send them to Tiecrafters to get'em altered. But what really sealed the deal for me is that they send you a UPS envelope with a prepaid label for your next order! They have a customer for life. read more

I just had a dozen ties narrowed at Tiecrafters and they look terrific. I sent them to Tiecrafters after a brief e-mail exchange to make sure I had the price right. The e-mails were I good idea; I had confused the tie alteration with the tie cleaning prices. The ties were sent back in the promised timeframe, give or take, and they look perfect, good as new.
