Andrew that turned out to be harder to find around town than expected. Several other shops simply didn't carry Gus crowns at all. At Heritage, not only were there multiple Gus-style options, but they were available in the size we needed, which made the difference immediately. Rich took the time to understand exactly what we were looking for, walked us through the options without any pressure, and clearly knows his craft inside and out. The depth of inventory and his experience really show. If you're serious about hats -- especially if you're looking for a specific crown shape or fit -- this is a place worth visiting. The selection and knowledgeable, straightforward service set it apart.

When I asked about the difference, I was told that prices have been going up and are expected to rise again in January. He told me he was waiting to update his website then. That meant the price advertised online wasn't honored, even though it's what brought me into the store in the first place. I ended up driving about 30 minutes each way only to find out the actual price was more than $100 higher than what they publicly posted. I left disappointed and won't be returning. At the very least, the website should reflect current pricing, so customers don't waste their time.

I made a reservation via email which was super easy to set up. The staff were so friendly, explained everything to us, and also gave us helpful styling inspiration. There were so many options of hats, trims, charms, etc. that it was such a fun time for the group. I ended up getting a 100% wool hat with a couple of add-ons. At the end of appointment, they even gifted the bride a little goodie bag. It was definitely an experience to remember. Thank you so much, Rancher Hat Bar!

Do you want a custom rancher or cowboy hat? Ever wonder where all of those impeccably decorated…read morehats people wear at festivals and wineries come from? Well, some of them may come from a place like Rancher Hat Bar. I'm going to break down the experience because I came in as a complete newbie and had NO idea where to start and it really wasn't clear when I went in there. (More on that later. ) Start at the big wall of hats. They have a pretty good selection of hats ranging from least expensive (at least when I was there) closer to the big window and street) to more expensive (located deeper in the store.) There are a range of colors and slight variations in style. The cheaper ones started around $65 I believe and went up to $90. The next tier started at about $120 (which is one of the ones I went with) and those two tiers were adjustable hats. As you made it to the pricier ones they got to fitted sizes. Once you have chosen the style and the color you want, you let the staff know and they will go grab a fresh hat for you from the back. Then it's time to start looking for your embellishments. Do you want a ribbon, or a charm, or feathers or flowers? Do you want a brand on the hat? You can customize in so many ways. Layering ribbons and chains and flowers, etc. Once you have gathered what you want and have a general idea of how you want it laid out, the staff will get it all tied on and tacked in. Ta-da a custom creation! It can be fun and I did get a hat. When we arrived it was a little busy maybe 2-3 other folks in front of us, and no one had appointments. We were there for a pretty long time and while we were there it calmed down quite a bit. At one point our group of 5 were the only guests in the store. I'm going to be frank, the ladies who were working there couldn't have cared less that we were there. Answering questions about the hats, the process and assisting with the tips for designing the hats was really the last thing they wanted to be doing. I get it, it's the same thing for them everyday, but the Hat Bar is special because it's an experience. It's more of a service than just retail. They just didn't give a and it showed. And as a special experience that I would recommend to others, that's where it falls short. It would have been fun to have a more guided experience. To be offered beverages like when you go into Tecovas. I would have liked to see more display hats for inspiration or maybe photos if physical hats would be too much inventory. So many ways to make it special that sadly don't happen.

A Truly Demeaning Experience - Never Again…read more Twice now, I've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with an unbelievably condescending manager at this location. His attitude is smug, dismissive, and frankly, unprofessional. The first incident occurred when I requested embroidery using a term associated with a military branch. Knowing trademark laws can be tricky, I did my due diligence beforehand--checking a .gov website and bringing the official guidelines on military trademark use with me. Despite this, the manager immediately and sternly declared, "Absolutely not. That's a violation of trademark and against the law." When I calmly asked him to review the government webpage with me, he flat-out refused. Instead of having a professional discussion, he chose to double down on his stance, making the situation unnecessarily tense. For 20 minutes, I remained patient and professional (as a parent of three, I know how to de-escalate situations), while he continued to dismiss me. Only after finally glancing at a single sentence on the webpage did he begrudgingly say, "Fine, I'll do it." No apology, no acknowledgment--just resistance for the sake of it. I had nearly forgotten about that frustrating ordeal until today when I returned to get a simple name--"Anderson"--embroidered on a hat. Immediately, the same manager shut me down: "No, that's illegal. Unless it's your name, and you'll need to show me your ID." That's when I recognized him. I took a deep breath and asked, "So, you don't embroider nicknames?" His smug response? "That's not your nickname?" At that point, I was done. I tossed the hat on the desk and said, "Oh man, I remember you. I'm out." As I walked out, he sneered, "Way to act like a child." Unbelievable. I will never return--not to this location, not to any LIDS store. If this is the level of customer service they allow, they've permanently lost my business.

I had literally just discovered this place earlier that day and was excited to stop in--only to be dismissed like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Honestly, the experience gave major Pretty Woman vibes--being turned away in a way that felt judgmental and unwelcoming. If you don't want customers coming in during your posted business hours, then change your hours. Don't make people feel foolish for trying to support your business. We happily took our money elsewhere, Rancher Hat Bar , but this experience ensured we won't be back--and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone visiting Scottsdale.

I'd like to apologize for not reviewing sooner!! This is a REAL hat store…read more This family-owned business has been a fixture in the valley for decades, and while I used two different hatmakers when I lived and worked in Colorado, they didn't come close to the expertise of this outfit. As a native to the valley, the damage from sun exposure began as an outside kid. As a young adult starting out as a horse professional, I wore what most people wore - a basball cap. In my 30's, the dermatologists began their annual battle to repair the damage, instructing me to 'stay out of the sun'. Yeah, right. After one session of extensive repair, Doc really chewed me out! I explained my work, to which he exclaimed, 'Then wear a real hat!' The baseball cap only shaded my eyes, not my face, nose, chin, ears, neck, chest... and the damage was requiring surgeons. Seriously. So began my quest to every western shop to try to make a hat work for me. I had no idea that the pain & headache was because the shape of my head IS NOT ROUND, like most people, yet every off the shelf hat is! To wear a hat snug enough to stay on while horseback, yet comfortable, seemed impossible. One day I was miserable with yet another 'round' hat I was forcing myself to wear when someone told me about a place that makes quality hats exactly to the shape of your head, allowing for even, comfortable pressure. No way! What? Don't even know what I did with those stupid round torturous hats. Might've run them over with the truck AND trailer! You can imagine the rest! That antique contraption they use to get the shape of your noggin is the game-changer! Over 30 years, Az-Tex has made probably 6 hats for me, worn morning to night outside working. They last forever, and my new hats were usually a style change I was looking for. They clean up like brand-new and are really an item one could pass down to kids or grandkids. Retired now, I go there for my golf hats! So, again, sorry I hadn't reviewed before now! Thank you, Az-Tex! Your expertise made my career so much easier!
