This is the most SPECTACULAR short hike I've been on in the Bay Area so far. Just a quick trip over the Golden Gate bridge from SF and up into the hills of Tiburon (your car may complain about the incline) and you'll be quickly rewarded by some of the best views of the city I've seen so far. Just drive all the way to the end of Lyford as the address says, and you'll reach a cul de sac. If it's a typical day, parking space should be free along the street next to the trailhead. On the day I went, the views were simply so clear and absolutely gorgeous. I'd love to return for a picnic.

This was a great hike for me to do with my 5 month old in a front pack. Beautiful 360* view of the Bay. It was spectacular.

Wonderful hike with amazing views of the Bay. Enough elevation gain to provide a great workout!

Really nice trail with some great views of Angel Island, Tiburon, GG Bridge, and Sausalito from above.

This is also great for photographers. Pretty much the hills, grass, trails, rocks, and trails are amazing! This is also a great place for photographers. There are other places like those Battery ones and Hill 88, but my friend and I didn't really get a chance to go there since we pretty much missed the path and we didn't want to turn around. Honestly, it's really hot here and thank goodness that I bring water and snacks in case I'm thirsty or hungry. Most importantly, bring water! You'll need it if you're ever going to hike here. The trip is short in my opinion since I'm used to hiking for a long time. In the future, I am planning to come back here to revisit scenic spots that we missed. The hike might be longer since I enjoy hiking at regional parks.

The hiking trails are beautiful and well worth exploring, whether you're going for a short walk or a longer hike. It's peaceful, scenic, and feels like a total escape from the city even though it's so close. Bring a camera -- every overlook feels postcard-worthy. A must-visit if you're in the Bay Area. Magical!

The most basic is to park at the end of Vistazo Street and take the fire road to the church and back. This is an easy 1 mile walk which is good for people that aren't looking to go hiking but want to take an easy walk in nature. Another way to get to the church is from downtown which is only about 15-minute walk and has some elevation but still easy. I think that's a good idea for ferry day trippers to Tiburon looking for something more to do than just hanging out downtown. It's worth seeing Old Saint Hilary's Church because it's so historic but the open hours are extremely limited, I've never been in because it never seems to be open. Currently I think it's only open Sundays from 1-4pm. There are a few different trails in the preserve but nothing is super long, it's more about the amazing views of the city, bay, Angel Island, and beyond. It's quite breathtaking, especially in the spring with the wildflowers. A sign sits on the top saying Private Property and No Trespassing and looks like there are some more trails beyond but they don't look too maintained or stable. To make this a longer hike there is the loop that goes down to Tiburon Uplands Nature Preserve from one of the trails. This loops down to Paradise drive and adds about an extra mile.

Since Tiburon is home to a ferry station and two sailing clubs, you can see ferries motoring to San Francisco and Angel Island leaving rippling waves behind them and sailboats gliding along the water. The park and the walking path stretches from Main Street Tiburon to Elephant Rock. The Railroad & Ferry Depot museum is halfway between. The walking path is all cement; smooth and flat. There are no public restrooms along path. The museum has limited hours and admission is $5. But it is a worthwhile stop since they have historical information boards outside the building. The board details the rich history of the building and area. There is no parking along the park. The closest parking is the day use parking lot off Paradise Drive opposite Main Street.

There is a trail head just in front of the parking spots or you can catch it at the back of the church. This trail cuts across the bottom of the Old Hillary Preserve - imagine the preserve is a wedge and the trail cuts across the point of the wedge. It ends on a residential street - Vistazo West, where we then hiked up the hill - linking to Lyford Dr. It's pretty steep, but eventually you get to another trailhead from Lyford. You may want to turn left up Sugar Loaf and then Right on Heathcliff Dr, but it was pretty steep and we decided to stay on Lyford, which also leads to a trialhead for Fishbits. Once on the trail head you climb to the top with the trail's clear hills and valleys ,and have amazing views of the bay, Angel Island and the Golden Gate and Richmond Bridges. If you take this to the end - you will be greeted by a "No Trespassing -Private Property," sign just outside a wire fence that has been cut open - clearly some time ago. We proceeded and there is another sign posted right at the lookout point for Angel Island. Taking this trail around - there are now houses on the left which are enclosed by chainlink fencing. At this point, you may want to go back on the main trail or if you proceed, the trail gets a bit more narrow and challenging - uneven, less groomed, some rocks, etc. but clearly more than a deer trail. It cuts across the mountain and then switches back towards the trail behind Old Hillary's Church. All Trails lists this a down and back trail and not a loop. We kept going and it did eventually loop back to the church. It was just short of 4 miles, steep, and took us 2.5 hours and I'm not in great shape. So there you have it!
