Went to Tia Coris for lunch today and it was really good. We ordered the barbacoa, carne asada, pollo, and pork. We got them American-style with flour tortillas, and they were fire. Simple yet flavorful, everything tasted very fresh, and they were generous with the amount of meat on each taco. We were extremely satisfied and felt good after eating. We would definitely go back for our next taco fix. Bonus: they have Mexican Coke. We liked that it's fast-casual--you order at the counter and the food is brought to you within about 10 minutes, which makes it the perfect spot for a quick lunch. We really appreciated how fast everything was despite coming during the lunch rush. We sat inside because it was chilly willy, and the vibe was very casual. Below average if you ask me. I've been to a lot of taquerias in my life and this was the whitest one I've ever seen and that usually means not good. The elote was lacking a lot of flavor and not grilled like I find it on the street. The tacos were pretty bland. Barbacoa.... um...not good. Chips were pretty standard but the salsa was a bit below. So, I am giving 5 starts because the fish was seasoned PERFECTLY and cooked PERFECTLY as well. I believe the fish is mahi it was very light but held the flavor very well. The rice was also flavorful and cooked to perfection (not dry) the refried beans were also good as well. The service was great I was greeted with a smile. I got my food quickly. The whole meal cost $17.30 not bad but I think another taco could be in there for that price because you only get a small slice of fish. Revisited for tacos again this week and was service was not nearly as nice. Food was good I had chicken Mexican tacos and flan. Guy at the cash register was friendly and helpful but the server was quite bad. I was supposed to have my flan brought to me and it never came, I went up and the guy asked if I ever got it and gave it to me then. I also ordered 2 more tacos to go and was told again they would be brought to me since it got pretty busy and the waitress again never brought my food. I came up and had to ask for it again when multiple people after me got their food. Maybe I'll just stick to day shift from now on. Dinner service needs work. read more

My good friend and I were in need of some lunch and stumbled upon Tia Coris near the riverside of the Famous Daytona Beach! It's fun, festive music and delicious smells drew us in. From the outside it looks like your typical sit down restaurant but on the inside is a fast food version of a Mexican restaurant. You join the line behind a counter, submit your order and grab a number to take to the seat of your choice. I think this is an interesting idea but missed the comfort of being seated and ordering from a table. BUT it definitely is a great spot if you are on the go! I ordered the chips and queso along with the fish tacos. The queso had a good texture and was your standard blend of cheeses. I think I'd add some meat or jalapeños to put in it next time. Tia's Tacos is seriously one of my absolute favorite places for tacos and quesadillas. On a whim, I visited Tia's tacos for a quick bite. Little did I know that years later, it will STILL be one of the best in the Daytona Beach area. My order was pretty simple with tacos and quesadillas, but they were seriously memorable. You may ask how can something so simple be worthy of such a great review, but my thought is get something "simple"...if that is prepared to your liking, then you can try something more complex. I appreciated everything being fresh and fast. The menu was obviously larger than my little order, and everything that came out looked amazing. Tacos, Tortas, Tamales, Taquitos! I could make a meal of things that start with the letter T. So many choices, even with things that start with other letters. I was totally going to get a Burrito but then as I approached the register, I saw they had their version of the Crunchwrap called "La Flacca" or something like that. Birria Tacos are one of my favorite things and now I must try whenever I see them and these did not disappoint. They were crispy and moist and the red dippy juice was flavorful as well. I planned on trying their Paow plant protein, but they didn't have on this day so I went with Chicken which was moist and delicious. The "Crunchwrap" item also had melted cheese on the top kinda like Taco Bell's Grilled Cheese Burrito. This thing was delicious and well put together. Mrs. S ordered her favorites and I must say the Tamale was one of the best tamales I've ever eaten. The masa was moist and delicious and took everything you probably hate about terrible tamales and made you forget and realize THIS is how it's done right. 4 months ago, I gave this place a 3-star rating after having it delivered through DoorDash. I thought the food might be better in-house, and I was right. I stopped in today and had the shrimp tacos and a chips with salsa bowl. The chips are made in-house and are so good!! The salsa has awesome flavor. The shrimp was plump and had that little snap to it. Rice and refried beans were done well also. The hot sauce I asked for was OMG hot and I couldn't be happier. Making me sniffle happens on occasion but to bring tears takes labor and just a thin line of their hot sauce did the trick. Nose was running, eyes full of tears and I added it to my refried beans. So now I know don't order from here on DoorDash, come in yourself. I'm giving 4-stars because when I ordered at the counter I asked the cashier twice for tacos de camaron and she didn't understand, finally I had to order in English even though they're listed in Spanish on the menu. My 3rd visit to Tia's. The picture is mid dinner and I had to leave a review because the tamale dinner is the BEST I've ever eaten since moving to FL from Tx, 39 yrs ago. Moist, flavorful pork and masa for the perfect tamale, and of course, the refried beans and rice, also, PERFECT!!! This is our #1 Mexican spot we have found in Florida. We just moved here from San Diego, so it is a TALL order to impress us in the Mexican realm. Two girls ran the whole restaurant. They ran the register, made EXCELLENT margaritas, and served the food tableside. This is as close as you are gonna get to real taco shop foods in Florida (But the search continues....... All the tortillas are house-made. Margaritas are house made from scratch in the morning. Nicely done ladies!! In the mood for Mexican our party of four decided to try Tias mainly due to the excellent reviews. Just happened to be on Taco Tuesday also! You peruse the menu, order and pay at the counter. Soft drinks are self serve and your food is brought to your table, along with adult drinks. My daughter and her husband opted for the $1.00 tacos. Both said they were delicious but they did prefer the American version instead of the Mexican version. I passed on the tacos because I read that their tamales were so good. Haven't had a super fantastic tamale since I discovered them at Mercados in Tyler, Texas 28 years ago. I was not disappointed. They were great. Not quite as good as Mercados but a close second. My wife ordered the Burrito, as she always does. Try to get her to step out a bit but she has a love affair with burritos. I should be jealous. She said it was excellent. Also the fresh, hot, homemade tortilla chips and Queso Blanco were excellent, with a side of chorizo sprinkles. We also shared an Elote Mexican street corn, which was great. I'm sorry but I tried. This used to be one of our favorite places. The food is still good but do not order takeout. I get large ($100+) orders for the employees at the Grind in Ormond and take it to them for a surprise lunch. The last time I ordered they had placed all of the sauces at the top of the to-go bags and then placed the bags under the heaters. All of the containers melted and leaked over every single item that we ordered. To make matters worse we had ordered queso, salsa, guacamole and CHIPS. We received the sauce covered containers but we did not receive a single chip. Should have gotten at least two bags. In the end we all decided to give it another chance and just placed another order. I explained the issues we had last time and asked to watch and make sure the order was correct. While everything did look right, it was not. I did not realize that I was going to have to open each box and make sure that they actually contained the items that were written on the outside. My friend ordered a Barbacoa burrito. She got a shrimp burrito. Thankfully, she's not allergic to shrimp. However the look of disappointment on her face when she bit it and got a mouthful of shrimp made me want to drive to the restaurant and toss it through the front door. I'm done. Picked this place because of their positive reviews. When we started to look at the menu, Ben the owner answered any questions we had. My daughter and her family was surprised at the vast vegan / vegetarian menu, and Ben was very happy to explain any questions on how it was cooked, ingredients etc... My wife and I saw the other offerings and were not disappointed at their selection. We are from Michigan, and are frequent diners to all the Mexican Town restaurants in the Metro Detroit region, but I was totally amazed at the quickness, and the quality of their food. I got the steak tacos Mexican style. It was $14 for three tacos which is pretty expensive compared to other Mexican restaurants. The staff was nice but I probably won't go back. Tia Cori's is in the downtown part of Daytona Beach, right over the bridge from all the Ocean Front Hotels. The service was amazing, super super nice, very kind people that felt like your friends just hanging out enjoying a good meal. We went at lunch time on a Monday and there was a good crowd throughout, it was a late lunch after 2 so we were able to participate in their happy hour 2-7p $1 12oz Yuengling (Bonus: Also: Domestic Bottle $2.00, Glass of wine $3.00). They have a great menu with all the typical flavors and choices, but all was really really good, fish tacos, burrito (wish they put cheese on top of it), regular hard tacos, all was taste and well worth the prices (very reasonable). Most of the entrees you get to pick the type of meat you want the options are: Asada (Steak), Barbacoa (Shredded Beef), Carnitas (Pulled Pork), Pollo (Chicken), Al Pastor (Marinated Pork), Chorizo (Mexican Sausage), Chicharrones (Spicy Pork Skin). Their Asada is outstanding, you'll enjoy it, would love to try their Al Pastor and Chorizo as well, guess I'm going back one day. They also have an adequate kids menu Loved the environment they provide, they have two very different seating areas (as far as decor) and then lots of outdoor seating (Bonus). Review update: The owner replied to my review and flat out called me a liar (on Google reviews), asking me to "tell facts not made up". They state that their beef is top round which has no bone in it, even though I have a photo of the bone in my review. They also claim that they are short staffed, but I stood there for about 30 minutes waiting and watching, and after having worked in restaurants for years both as a waiter and a cook, I know what hard workers look like. There was zero hustle evident in any person in the restaurant, and the restaurant was also not very busy, maybe medium busy. My original review gave them three stars despite me crunching down on a big bone, but after the owner called me a liar I'm changing it to one star because there's 0% chance I would ever go back or recommend this to anyone. I will actually go out of my way to make sure people stay away. Not terrible, but nothing special. We came on a Thursday and they have $1.50 tacos, we got 6 pork tacos and 1 steak sope. $4 for the sope which was pretty small, and underwhelming in flavor. If I wanted to fill up on just sope for lunch, I would need at least 3 or 4. Also my first bite of the sope had a big beef bone in it, so that was not a great introduction. The tacos were odd, they were all about 1/3 full. They're Mexican style (onion, lime and cilantro), but the taco shells were like regular American hard taco shells with too little filling. I'm used to the soft shell Mexican tacos that are slightly smaller and more filling so they look full. I ate three tacos and split the sope with my wife and I could stand another two or three tacos. Not very satisfying. Also, we only got two limes slices for six tacos, not enough in my opinion. The atmosphere seem nice, but nobody had any hustle in the kitchen or the wait staff, so everything took quite a while. All in all, there was nothing that made me want to come back. read more
