I was a client for myofunctional therapy, due to a tongue tie I had no idea existed until about nine months ago. My therapy lasted a little over six months with daily tongue exercises. I became a master tongue-clicker and my tongue is now more yolked than ever before! What was pretty exhausting at first has lead to a tongue that can swallow correctly, without contributing to gum recession, and compete in tongue building competitions. Melissa was seriously so fun to work with. Going to see her was always a fun and enjoyable experience, even when put under the microscope tongue light being observed while I swallow incorrectly. The therapists are all so kind and encouraging. My son is in ABA, speech and OT. All his therapists work together as they mention the improvements and areas of need across sessions. The therapists provide lots of suggestions on how to continue teaching at home and also relieved the pressure I was feeling. Due to the pandemic, my son wasn't exposed to anyone other than my husband and I, so the first few weeks he was very temperamental at the sessions. It took some time but he now runs in and is excited for the activities and what he thinks is play time. I still sit in the sessions with him, as he doesn't tolerate me leaving completely yet, but he's so improved so much and loves the center. We are new to this world of speech, OT, and ABA therapy. If you're also new, it may seem somewhat hopeless and intimidating at first. Give it time and try to remember these therapists work with all sorts of children and have hope and faith in their techniques and in the kids overall joy in learning. If you're curious, I have Michelle for ABA, Sheridan for OT, and Alin for speech. They're all great though as the holidays have provided opportunities for sessions with substitutes.
