My kids are badasses! I have two children, 6 years and 8 years old, who have trained at Thrive since they were 5 years old. Not having grown up performing martial arts myself, this was a foreign concept to me. But wanting to address my young daughter's insecurities and give her opportunities to build her confidence, we started our journey at Thrive in 2021and wow, do I love the journey we've had. My kids are not only learning about the BJJ art itself, they are making friends, learning respect and discipline, and learning how to defend themselves against any perceived violence- all MUCH NEEDED skills for their future. And my 8-year-old daughter can take down my 240-lb husband, so there's that... We love Prof OJ and the awesome coaches that we entrust our kids with every week. Much love and respect to them all. Thank you for giving my kids the opportunity to thrive at Thrive and in life!!

Pilates with Claudia at Thrive BJJ is a total game changer! I've been taking her classes for about 3 months now and I am blown away by how much my body has transformed. I've lost weight, built strength, become more flexible, and just feel amazing overall. Claudia is truly something special she's kind, uplifting, and brings the most positive energy to every class. Her vibe is infectious in the best way, and she makes you feel so supported while still pushing you to grow stronger. On top of her killer Pilates classes, she recently started Latin Mix Dance and Built by Brazil and OMG, they're a blast! Latin Mix is like a full-on dance party where you sweat without even realizing it, and Built by Brazil targets all the right places (hello, glutes ). If you're looking for a fun, empowering workout that actually delivers results, Claudia is your girl. Thrive BJJ Studio is lucky to have her, and so am I! SAY SI!

I came to Thrive in late 2022, after taking a three year break from Jiu Jitsu. I was nervous coming back with a colored belt and was unsure how I would be received by other students. I met Professor OJ and was immediately accepted into the Thrive Family with open arms. This is a great, safe, fun, and clean location to come and learn the Gentle Art. The kids program is awesome too. I plan on staying at Thrive for the long haul and proud to call it my home gym. All of the coaches and students are super friendly and I could ask for a better place to advance my jiu jitsu.

Coach Mark has created a welcoming, supportive environment where she feels encouraged to learn and grow every step of the way. Not only is she learning valuable self-defense skills, but she's also developing confidence that carries over into her everyday life. Knowing she has the ability to protect herself while building respect, resilience, and determination gives me incredible peace of mind. The entire team genuinely cares about their students and treats everyone like family. I highly recommend Evolve Training Center to any parent looking for a place where their child can build confidence, learn practical self-defense, and be part of a positive community. Thank you, Evolve, for making such a meaningful impact on my daughter's life!

I came in as a brown belt specifically to train under Coach J Janero. His lineage through Rickson Gracie and the Ribeiro brothers resonated deeply with me since I started my journey under Kron Gracie. Making a move at that level is not easy. You do not change academies unless you are looking for something real. What I found at Evolve was next level coaching. Coach J genuinely cares about his students. He does not run a one size fits all system. He studies you. He understands how you move, where your gaps are, and how to refine your game. That level of individualized attention is rare. You feel seen, not processed. Training with J and Jane, who is also an incredible black belt and coach, has completely transformed my Jiu Jitsu. Their focus on efficiency, precision, and longevity is huge for me. I am in my 40s and I want to train into my 50s and 60s. They teach you how to push hard while staying smart. The culture is serious, technical, and supportive. If you care about growth and long term development, this is the place.

My kids loved going and built confidence through supportive instruction. And as older woman, I'm having fun and getting fitter. The instructors clearly know what they're doing, and the kids' program is well-structured and engaging. However, as a parent, the overall experience leaves a lot to be desired. The biggest issue? No WiFi for parents. If you're going to have parents sitting around for an hour or more during classes, it's pretty unreasonable not to provide even basic internet access. Not everyone can just disconnect from work or responsibilities during that time. The waiting area is minimal, and without WiFi, you're essentially stuck doing nothing or burning through your mobile data. In this day and age, that feels like a pretty basic amenity that should be standard--especially for a place that otherwise operates at a high level. So yes, great training--but not a very parent-friendly environment. Until they address this, it's hard to fully recommend.

Hello fellow people,…read more I tried this place out long enough to form my opinion. I would recommend spending your time wisely by going elsewhere. To begin this place has a striking training once a week. I watched in amazement as people punched a punching bag full of recycled rubber tires and sand. It reminded me of a funny cartoon seeing the energy wave transfer back on the striker. I saw attempts at kickboxing by instructors that obviously had no Muay Thai or Kickboxing experience. Now onto the reason why I came to this place, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The BJJ training did not meet my expectations of a professional BJJ training academy. The business owner seemed distracted by his cell phone or negativity most of the time. The were small but there seemed to be a high count of injuries, including the owner who may not spar, due to having had his arm broken doing BJJ. Good, lively and intelligent students were routinely knocked down a peg, or brow beat, so to speak, when they were doing well. This seemed to serve no efficient purpose as these were not belligerent or lazy students. It seems counterproductive. this is not a tough love, it's like Pinnochio being trained by the going nowhere boys. There seemed to be an air of insecurity in the owner and staff. The women that courageously came to the place once, probably never came back for a reason. Most people that attend BJJ classes are not broken people and do not want or need that. We want proper professional training which is a fair trade for payments. So in my opinion go find a dojo that meets your expectations. In the martial arts world there are always people looking for a place to belong, a home, a club and those people could be professional trained, not neglected of professional training. This type of training in the short term wastes time. In the long term it will crutch or starve growth. It may not be healthy for youth or adults. Not for me, and maybe not for you. Thank you for reading my review. Good day or good night.

I reached out to several local…read moreplaces in the San Bruno, SSF, and Pacifica areas, but BAB stood out right away--not only because they worked with my daughter's schedule, but because of their flexibility and approach. What really makes them the "best" is that Sensei Darryl offered my daughter a trial class, something most dojos don't provide. That gave us the chance to see if it was the right fit without feeling pressured into a long-term, non-refundable commitment. As a parent, I truly appreciated that level of confidence and consideration. After the trial, my daughter initially had some hesitation--she was the only girl in the class at the time, and the other students seemed far more experienced. Sensei Darryl reassured us that she would catch on quickly, and he was absolutely right. Now, nearly a year later, this is her favorite extracurricular activity. She has grown so much in both skill and confidence, and it's incredible to see her excited about something she genuinely enjoys. I highly recommend Bay Area's Best Karate to any parent looking for a supportive, reputable dojo.
