They abuse these horses, their fur is matted, their hooves are broken, and they whip the horses way more than necessary in order to make your rides go faster to make more money. I would rather just drive in a car and see the lights than endure seeing how they treated these animals. Also one of the people left their dog in their car the entire shift (6 hours) and when we brought it to the attention of the other staff they said there is no problem leaving a dog in the car because it wasn't hot.. If you want to contribute to animal abuse for 10 minutes of "fun" then by all means go ahead and pay this company. read more

I would not book with his company unless you want to be cancelled on last minute!! We got a call telling us that it was cancelled due to a driver but the horses were ok, but we needed to rebook. When we called to rebook they offered us a 11pm after Christmas. We have had these reservations made since the beginning of November and had already bought snacks and drinks for our ride and had people come into town. We had such high hopes for the charming experience the Threejays website depicts. Not sure if they were having an off night or what but after waiting nearly 20 minutes beyond our scheduled departure time and watching beautiful carriage after carriage roll away, we cringed when our ride arrived. It was a misty night, so they had pulled the bonnet up, which wouldn't have been a problem, but on this particular carriage, it came down so low on the sides, it obstructed the view above anything higher than the sidewalk. I asked if there was any way we could wait for the next carriage, after all, we had just see 3 picturesque carriages leave... surely there would be another one in just a few moments. They refused. There was this awkward moment where they just wanted us to get on and be agreeable. No attempt to correct the situation, just "this is what you get stuck with after paying $250... duped". No offer for blankets, so we asked and they were provided. I felt like I was on a bad Groupon version only I paid full price. The ride was pleasant enough. I got a bit tired of lowering my chin to my knees to see some of the beautiful homes on the tour, but what really unsettled us were the hecklers that rode up next to the carriage and made comments. Several had their windows rolled down and made comments about the horses. This was actually really quite sad because they were miniature horses and I'm not sure they should have been used to pull a carriage with 4 people in this way. The driver was safe and polite and for that we tipped him but for all of the beautiful images and the price point, I just expected a better product and better customer service. read more

The staff has several generations of family members who do everything from driving the carriages to telling you the history and fun stories along the way, to providing a great photo of your experience and warm blankets for the ride. We had a great time on this carriage ride and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a fun experience looking at the Highland Park Christmas lights. Make sure you make your reservation early if you want a date close to Christmas! We booked at the beginning of November for a ride four days before Christmas, and many of the times were already full by then! Threejays leaves from Highland Park Village, which makes for a friendly, romantic atmosphere. The Threejays check-in was quick and we left right on time. However, if you want to stop in the Starbucks beforehand (either for a drink or to use the bathroom), make sure you get there at least 30 minutes early. The line for the girls' bathroom was 10 people deep at all times and moved like molasses. The guys' line was better but there were still 2 or 3 people waiting. This means the line for drinks is quite long as well. However, once we had drinks in hand the carriage ride was great. Our driver, Lucky, was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, and he had a ton of fun facts about the individual houses. I also liked that the horses are individually owned and the carriages are driven by the horse owners. We even witnessed a proposal at Flippen Park as we drove by (apparently this is pretty common according to Lucky). The lights were beautiful and Lucky knew exactly which streets had the most impressive lights. We all had a great time and would love to do it again next year! The carriages were clean and comfortable, with lights and Christmas music playing throughout the ride. There are also blankets, which are useful because the wind makes it surprisingly nippy while the carriage is moving. The regular carriage seated four people comfortably, and while they advertise that it seats up to six, I would recommend sticking to four normal-sized adults. They offer stretch carriages and wagonettes that seat up to 12 if you need more room. read more

Three Jays My boss tipped me off the Three Jays last year, and it immediately became a holiday tradition in our house. Three Jays is a very well run operation in Highland Park. A horse drawn carriage rides you and your crew through mansions in HP that have been decorate for the holidays. Each you we book a carriage for six and surprise four friends. We tell them to show up at our place, where we have champagne, smoked salmon, caviar, etc. You can have dinner somewhere like Patrizi's in HP Village before or after your carriage ride. It makes for a nice, romantic, festive night. A ride lasts around an hour and costs between $150-$200 depending on the size of the carriage you book. read more

I left several messages that I never received my refund, and the employee that works in the office assured me that the owner would be giving me a call back. We very much enjoyed our Threejays Carriages experience (I proposed to my girlfriend on the ride). I had a dialogue with the Threejays staff over the two weeks or so prior to my reservation, and the staff was very helpful in arranging all of the details (i.e., picking the perfect route, arranging for a photographer, helping maintain the surprise, etc.). In addition, the staff members, including our driver, Michelle, were very friendly, cheerful and accommodating. The carriage was very clean and nice (even had Christmas music and Christmas lights on it) and the horses seem to be treated very well. Focus was more on the west side of Preston, I think we would have had a better time if it was on both sides. Our carriage driver didnt utter a word during our ride and understandably so ( she has to focus on driving) but dont keep reminding us to tip her off as much as the website suggest it to be, but we did. Blankets were a nice touch during the ride. I was a fun first time. Oh by the way, it wont hurt if you upgrade the cushion on the carriage for a little bit more comfort. Dont bother calling the answering service for after hours, they are no help at all a bit rude to be honest. Our driver, Lucky, was a great chauffeur and very entertaining. The path he took us on was many times breathtaking while we gazed upon the beautifully decorated mansions of Highland Park. The carriage was fully equipped with Christmas music and lights and we exchanged many "Merry Christmas!"'s to the other passing by carriages. We cozied up with the provided blankets and enjoyed the hot chocolate that we brought along with us. It is a memory we will always cherish and I hope one to make a tradition!!
