One of my biggest concerns was the **unexpected 4% credit-card fee**. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked for the total cost and was not told about this additional charge. Had I known, I would have paid another way. Instead of acknowledging the lack of communication, the owner said that everyone is charged the fee. The issue is not that everyone pays it--it is that **I specifically asked for the total and was not informed of the fee.**
The cabin itself was disappointing. It smelled **musty**, the windows were outdated and difficult to open, the couch had a **large hole and dog hair**, and the living-room rug had **multiple burn holes**. The kitchen was also not properly prepared, as all the dishes were still in the dishwasher when we arrived.
The waterfront was difficult to enjoy due to numerous ducks, feathers, and droppings throughout the property and around the docks**. Boats were everywhere, our dock was smaller and very close to the others, and unlike the other cabins, ours faced the grass and marina rather than the lake.
The included kayaks were also unusable because one paddle was broken and there were no usable replacements**. After waiting about 25 minutes, we were ultimately encouraged to use the broken paddle.
There were additional maintenance concerns, including standing water around the cabin, a rusty pipe with unknown water coming from it, and a large open basement area containing rusty materials, buckets, and debris** that appeared potentially unsafe for children or pets.
Check-in was also not a good first impression. We arrived around 2:50 p.m., and although check-in was at 3:00, no one was there. I was told the person responsible was out running errands and would return soon.
What was most disappointing was the lack of ownership and customer service when we brought these concerns forward**. Instead of feeling that our concerns were taken seriously, we felt that excuses were made and responsibility was avoided.
For the price, we expected a clean, well-maintained property, functioning amenities, accurate pricing, and professional customer service. Unfortunately, we did not receive that. The location was the only thing this property had going for it, and that alone was not enough. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it based on our experience.
