Been playing this golf course since it opened. What was once a very promising Public golf course for the citizenship of knox county now has become a major disappointment. After returning to play after being away for years I was shocked at the slow play, poor course conditions, and the price.
1. Pace of play is horrid. 4hour round is a pipe dream. Expect 4.5 to 5 hour round.
2. Course conditions have deteriorated. Especially since Knox Co took over the management. Greens that used to be fast and treacherous are now slow and shaggy The fairways are ok. Rough is inconsistent, sparse, and in several places bare dirt and rocks. Sand traps go from little sand over clay to what I can only refer to as quick sand. Tees are generally good with only some bare/thin grass on a couple of par threes.
3. Way over priced. Cart and greens fees will run you right $40 during the week and $45+ on the weekend. The course design and conditions do not merit this rate. Course is $25 tract.
4. The topper which has diminished the appeal of Three Ridges is the constant target shooting at the shooting range along hole #3. Sometimes it will go on for several miniutes or more! When I was playing started when I was in 2 fairway and continued constantly for the next 6 holes. Doesn't make for a pleasant playing environment.
Pace of play, average at best course conditions, and the constant target practice at the shooting range make Three Ridges an average at best municipal golf course. Over priced greens fee knock it down to a 2 star layout.
Mow the greens, get the Rangers out of the club house and on the course, and reduce the rate to a more affordable price point and number of rounds will increase. read more
