There are many so-called "dog trainers" out there. However, there are very few that are competent, caring, and up-to-date on the most current behavioral science research. Anyone can use punishment and force to "train" a dog. In this fear-based scenario, the main thing that the dog learns is to avoid punishment and pain. Chelsea, however, teaches her human clients how to build bonds with their dogs - bonds that are not built on fear, but instead built on trust and a true understanding of what the dogs are needing and what is underlying the dogs behavior. Chelsea is not only great at understanding what it is that the dog is needing and communicating, but is really supportive, patient, and compassionate with the human part of the pair. She is very good at reframing frustrating dog behaviors that have felt impossible to change, into understandable and workable communications that can have gratifying resolutions for both the dog and the human. Chelsea worked with me and Hugo when he was a puppy learning basic obedience as well as into adulthood helping Hugo to pass his CGC certification (canine good citizen certification).
