Approximately a year ago I had used A Plus - I was in the hospital for emergency life saving surgery - and due to my health - I was not allowed to leave the hospital and had to leave my dogs alone for almost 24hrs - please understand - my leaving my dogs was NOT due to neglect - I was a day - 2 days at the most from dying - my situation was CRITICAL and the Drs stated if I left the hospital there was a very STRONG possibility that I could die driving home to get my dogs - my fear of dying was overwhelming to say the least and the thought of possibly dying driving home to get my dogs and possibly injuring/killing anyone in a car accident was not something I could risk... Unfortunately, one of my friends was not able to get to my dogs until the following day and she was aware of how dire my situation was - Needless to say, I knew that my carpeting was going to be hit with the dogs 'accidents'... About a week after my surgery I started to call around for a carpet cleaning company that would be willing to do the work without gauging me in the pocketbook... I found Alex at APlus - He was extremely kind and compassionate to my situation - He was willing to work with me in every aspect - I had never forgotten... And when I FINALLY came home - my carpets looked incredible and there was ABSOLUTELY NO 'ODOR' lingering... It was a HUGE relief to me! I reached out to Alex again, literally today, regarding a cleaning... He remembered me from the initial job and from previous conversations... How many companies will 'remember' you? Now I will not go into what we've discussed and agreed to... But, I will say this... For a company in today's era that is willing to GO ABOVE and BEYOND and TRULY helps a person and put's the customers needs before their own profits - Speaks VOLUMES... I'm old school and you are only as good as your word, a handshake means something... I can only go by the work he had done for me previously and I was very happy with results... But, the absolute generosity in helping a person in my situation, (I'm sorry I do not wish to elaborate), gives me renewed faith that there are still Companies like APlus who truly care about their Clientele... I waited five days after work was done to write this so any temporary effect would pass...you know how sometimes carpets look great right after while drying, then a few days later when dry, stains reappear and you see the work was shoddy - surely NOT the case with this work!) They were late, did not adhere to pandemic safety standards, were rude, charged higher fees at the last minute, and did a lousy job that left my house smokey after using it. INTERACTION * The person I spoke with said it'll be a "level 2 " service (pretty standard across the industry). They quoted me 280. * Technician was an hour and half late without giving me any updates. * Raphael came to my house, to which I asked him to wear booties over his shoes. He said he'll be in/out the house a lot so I compromised as long as it was limited to the chimney area. Later he wore his dirty shoes through my hallway and into the bathroom and demanded a bottled water to drink too. I could have denied, but I tried to show hospitality but he didn't reciprocate. * Because he blocked the driveway in, I had to call people to get a chimney grate, which I didn't know I needed. Many times he would take off his mask to talk to me or to his phone which he was late on catching up on paper work. If you're at my house, I expect you to provide 100 percent focus on the job. After looking at my supplies and telling me to get a grate, when it came, he evaded testing out the fire by saying I also needed a fire starter log. * Cleaning took about 15 minutes -- seemed pretty quick for what he kept saying was a "really bad" chimney. I asked the state of the chimney because it bothered me that it was such a quick job. He told me he's not a certified inspector, and he's not doing the video inspection. * After asking about the quoted 280 over on the phone, he decides to charge an extra 100 cause my chimney was "really bad." ... if you're able to get the job done in 15 minutes all while letting the machine do its job while you walk away to fill out paperwork, I don't understand how that could be so strenuous on labor. * After he was gone, I called up the company to report his behavior to a manager, to which I spoke with Alex. He offered no compensation or discounts for all their shortcomings. He only said "I'll talk to him." I've never been so angry at a company or technician for so many reasons. I was desperate to get my chimney working. Because other companies busy up for a month, I decided to give these folks a try, and I regret this so much. They're the only company to make me feel angry at myself for giving them the benefit of the doubt. I hired this company to clean our carpets as part of a move-out. Before scheduling, my wife gave…read moreGeorge a very specific description of what needed to be cleaned: 3 bedrooms, living room, dining room, 2 hallways, 2 small walk-in closets, and one flight of stairs. George repeated that exact list back to her in writing and quoted $249 total. I have the texts. They show up and suddenly the price is $450. Their explanation was that George had quoted us for 5 "areas," while the technician said we actually had 8. Here's the problem: we never told George we had 5 areas. We told him exactly what rooms and spaces needed cleaning. If their company has its own way of counting "areas," that's something their employee determined when he gave us the quote. They also told me a quote can change once they see the house. Of course it can. I'm not arguing that $249 could never change by a dollar. But $249 to $450 is an 81% increase. That's not a small adjustment. I was even willing to meet them halfway. I offered $325, more than 30% above their written quote, because I understood that maybe the house was larger than George expected. They rejected it. Then things got ridiculous. The technician threatened to call the police and accuse me of theft over the disputed amount. He went even further and explained to me what that supposedly meant: if I were later pulled over, I could go to jail. Keep in mind, I wasn't refusing to pay them. I was offering $325 on a job they quoted at $249. What makes the whole thing worse is that they knew this was a move-out cleaning. When a company shows up during a move and suddenly tells you the job is going to cost almost twice what you were quoted, you're stuck. Your carpets need to be cleaned, you're on a deadline, and finding somebody else at the last minute may not be realistic. That's exactly why this experience felt so predatory to me. If square footage matters enough to turn a $249 quote into a $450 bill, ask for the square footage before quoting the job. Ask how much of the house is carpeted. Ask for measurements or pictures. They didn't. They asked what rooms needed cleaning, my wife answered accurately, and George responded with "$249 total." Maybe George simply gave us a bad quote. Mistakes happen. But if your employee makes an estimating mistake, own it and work something out with the customer. Don't show up to a move-out job, increase the price by 81%, reject a customer's offer to pay 30% more than the original quote, and then start threatening them with arrest when they dispute the bill. I would never use this company again. If you're considering them, especially for a move-out cleaning where you're working against a deadline, get everything in writing and ask exactly what can cause their quoted total to change once they're standing in your house.
