This traditional, old-style bakery is as kitsch and cute as its name. In case you don't get it, Thorobread Bakery is located right across the road from Eagle Farm race track. As I said, Thorobread Bakery is a very typical, old-school bakery but sometimes those are the best when you want a bit of comfort food. A pie and a chocolate breaka is always a winning combination and Thorobreads pies are nice. I think these places always do the best cream buns. You know the kind that have mock cream and that fake, chewy strawberry jam and the whole thing is covered in icing sugar? YUM!
Thorobread is obviously popular with the locals because you'll see lots of people buying their bread here, but it seems to be popular not just for takeaway loaves of bread but also as a morning tea or lunch spot. There are lots of oldies sitting at the tables eating scones or custard tarts and drinking orange juice. The inside of Thorobread is spacious enough to fit a fair few tables without feeling cramped and it's a pleasant place to treat yourself as you watch the Ascot set wandering along Racecourse road. Thorobread is an unpretentious, old-fashioned bakery from the past and is a refreshing change of pace from the rest of trendy Racecourse Road. read more
