Inside, it feels more like a country pub than a town pub: lots of tucked away seating areas (ideal for family or social groups) give it a cosy feel, with some old beams on the ceiling providing the right atmosphere. Real ale fans are well catered for with two regulars and three guest ales, although one of the latter was off on our visit. The food menu is extensive and features traditional pub grub, with main meals, baguettes, sandwiches and baked potatoes. There's a good vegetarian selection, too, and staff were friendly and helpful. The 10 minute walk to the pub from Warrington Town Centre passes several other old pubs, also serving real ale, on Buttermarket Street and Church Street, which would make for a perfect real ale pub crawl, ending at the Ring O'Bells. The pub isn't that old! It has a wonderful selection of well-served food and excellent beer. The welcome is warm and I felt very comfortable as soon as I went in. I don't know about the Ladies, but the gents is tiled with some extremely funny, Heath Robinson type illustrations. Update; 28.03.2016 Took the family there to watch the Thelwall Morris Men dancing out for Easter. As it happens, we were too late and missed the dance, but stayed for a drink and a meal. We were four adults and two "littlies" (almost 3 and 18 months old). The service was superb - the young ones were well looked after and the meals were just excellent. Some may be put off by the prices, but the quality and quantity made it worthwhile. The only quibble we had was that the real ales cost a pound more per pint than we are used to in other Warrington hostelries, but the quality, again, could not be faulted. The atmosphere in the pub is excellent and I would unhesitatingly recommend it to singles, couples, families and any combination - even dogs seemed to enjoy it!

This allows the place to revel in its traditional values of comfort and quality. The real fireplace and polished brass fittings give it that classic country pub feel, which is amplified by the decent selection of real ales and welcoming staff. However, if a quiet drink is what you're after you might be disappointed. Due to its small size it gets full quickly and thus can become quite noisy but this never affects the generally social atmosphere. This is simply a traditional village pub where old English standards are upheld.

It is a rather quiet English pub out in the country, with the rather charming interior that you would expect from a lot of these pubs. Staff are friendly and the locals seem like decent folk ( I certainly didn't spot any track suits, which is always a good sign). So judging by this, I would imagine their everyday food menu is pretty good too.

That said it was my mother in laws birthday and I knew they were eating there in the evening with friends. I called up the pub to see if I could order a surprise birthday cake and pay over the phone. Although they said that they did not make birthday cakes they were happy to go to the local bakery and get me one I called up on the night not really expecting that they had as I had not been asked to pay anything. To my delight they had got the cake and I ordered a bottle of reasonably priced champagne at the same time. They couldn't have been more helpful even to the point of calling me back to say that my mother in law had almost been in tears when they gave her the champagne and told them my message. When the time for the cake came, they had added candles and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday. All in all they were great and made my mother in laws birthday really special!

To drink I settled on a strawberry lemonade to rehydrate. The calories on the menu did dishearten me my trio was apparently near the 2k mark but when I mentally dissected it I could not equate to that number..yes I find it triggering so made sure I ate only half of it lol The portion was generous, massive Yorkshire, pork cracking, beef, pork belly and chicken, With a roasted whole carrot, parsnip, broccoli and potatoes. We did ask for more gravy as advertised! Everything was cooked beautifully and the service was genuine. Overall apart from the menus which I still think they should offer people different versions of aka one with calories and one without I really enjoyed my experience here and would come back!
