The biggest of these has to be the kitchen, which pumps out some rather nice pub grub. Whilst nothing special, the food is reasonably priced and more than satisfactory. For an affordable family meal, head down on Sundays from 12-6 for the Crown's weekly Carvery. As the local high school provides most of the employees, the staff are young but well-mannered and capable. The average price of a pint is about £3 and they serve a couple of ales, albeit IPA, Old Speckled Hen etc. Other attractions include an all you can eat curry and quiz night every Thursday from 6-9 and a two for a tenner fish 'n' chips meal deal available most days. Also, if you buy two glasses of Jacob's Creek you'll get the rest of the bottle free. Despite its slight chain-pub feel, The Crown offers a warm atmosphere whether you're drinking or eating. So if you're looking for a middle-of-the-road pub with good food and a touch of class then the Crown is for you.

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

It's a cosy place that's always packed on weekends so perhaps go elsewhere for more spacious drinking. However, due to its size the atmosphere is always buzzing and as a result it'd definitely be on my pub-crawl list.

Its main draw has to be the restaurant, which serves fantastic food albeit to a mixed reception. I've heard some not so positive opinions but after my visit I was left feeling very satisfied. With TV chef Aiden Byrne at the helm the Church Green's kitchen has a lot to live up to and as a result I think this place suffers from its own hype. If you go there without expectations of Michelin quality food I'm sure you'll be contented. However, don't expect satisfaction to come cheaply. With mains ranging from a cool £22 to a mere £28 you'll have to do some pre-meal saving. On the pub side things are more reasonable, as drinks are fairly priced and its large outdoor area provides refuge for the smokers and summer time sun-lovers. Since it's conversion to gastro-pub however, it's somewhat lacking in general table space and is so for those wishing to sit and sip, it's probably better on weekends when the restaurant area is opened to the regular Joe. For me the only thing lacking is a decent selection of ales but that's just my taste. Never have the staff been uninviting or incapable and never have I felt like leaving early. So for a good social drink there aren't many places better. Definitely worth a try!

That said it was my mother in laws birthday and I knew they were eating there in the evening with friends. I called up the pub to see if I could order a surprise birthday cake and pay over the phone. Although they said that they did not make birthday cakes they were happy to go to the local bakery and get me one I called up on the night not really expecting that they had as I had not been asked to pay anything. To my delight they had got the cake and I ordered a bottle of reasonably priced champagne at the same time. They couldn't have been more helpful even to the point of calling me back to say that my mother in law had almost been in tears when they gave her the champagne and told them my message. When the time for the cake came, they had added candles and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday. All in all they were great and made my mother in laws birthday really special!
