I made an appointment for what I thought was highlights and a haircut/style. The stylist was high energy, friendly, and attentive. She gave me a great haircut for my fine and thinning hair, BUT, what I hoped would be highlights and lowlights morphed unto her adding more colors and toners and ??? Three hours later I was left with a coppery version of my usual strawberry blonde with golden highlights. She offered an adjustment within the week on the cut or color if I got home and found I wasn't quite satisfied after the color relaxed. All of that was well and good, HOWEVER, at the register when the assistant asked the total she said, $267.00. I was SHOCKED. I was tired and needed to get home to feed the animals, so I didn't say anything at that time. She never discussed the price of any procedure, much less the additional colors she decided to use. I'd allowed for as much as $175, knowing this salon is above average in service and price, but in no aspect was I prepared to justify spending $267 on highlights and lowlights, a cut and style which is what I originally wanted. I did call and discuss with management. They were kind and a $20 credit was offered for a return visit. I won't return. I learned a great lesson: get a quote on the services at this salon before any procedures are completed. I had not been to the salon for years and I have to say I was disappointed in general. I had scheduled for a deluxe pedicure but the paraffin wax was not heated because of a problem with the machine. I sat down in a chair in which the arm rest/tables had clearly not been wiped down (this should be protocol). I had to ask for a wipe to clean them. I was not impressed with the cleanliness of the station in general. The chair was uncomfortable and I was told I could have a back massage insert if I wanted but they did not recommend it because it was too intense. There is nothing special about the pedicure area. Two chairs with nothing to enhance the visit. No soft lighting, nothing to support your neck and the view of an open salon with nothing interesting. The nail tech did have a very soft touch but I was surprised when she did not put a base coat on before the color. I have issues with my toes and when I made the appointment I stated that I needed to have my big toe and second toe separated as they overlap. I felt as if I had done something wrong when the pitiful piece of cotton used did not do the job of keeping the toes separated. A speedy top coat was dropped on my nails but I felt as if I was being rushed out of the salon and there was nothing there I wanted to stay for anyways. I will not return to Thomas Scott Salon. For the price, the ambience is not worth it. I can visit a "mass" nail salon, pay less and have a better experience. My overall impression is mediocre at best. read more

Let me start by saying I am very careful and picky about who I let touch my hair. With that being said this is the first and only salon I have been to since I moved to Maryland 4 years ago. This last time I had Paige and loved her! She is sweet and on trend and I totally trust her! I donated 9 inches of my hair, that was my second time donating, and she assured me that the cut she was going to give me would make the short hair work with my round fave. She was soo right! It was my first time to Thomas Scott and I absolutely hated my hair so much afterwards. The hairstylist I think her name is Eddie did not cut my hair the way I wanted it to be. My hair turned out to be a straight blunt cut even though I showed her a picture of medium layered cut. It was not the length that I hated but the haircut was horrible. The moment she went out to take me in I was really thinking omg is she gonna be doing a good job? and I was right she didn't. I was trying so hard to be nice because she was an old lady. I have been a client of Thomas Scott Salon for several years and this last visit was not good. My stylist was not focused and cut my hair too short with a razor as well as it was uneven. I called and spoke to the general manager and didn't feel she cared about my concerns because she asked what I wanted them to do for me. I wasn't looking for a refund, just wanted to share my experience so they could improve, but she excused the stylist and said she would speak with her. I don't care for managers that make excuses or protect the employee and not the clients that keep them in business. read more

It's been a long time since I've been genuinely happy with my cut/color and overall treatment of my hair. My three pet peeves are 1. The washer using their nails to scratch my scalp 2. The hairdresser burning my scalp when blow drying and 3. When they pull/ tug at my hair while brushing it out. Casey was my hairdresser and she is so friendly and knowledgeable about hair! I had a root touch up and a cut. Casey was able to cover my stubborn grays flawlessly. We discussed exactly what I was looking for and I was more than happy with the end result. Gabby washed my hair and gave me a conditioning treatment. She was so professional and her scalp massage was so relaxing! A great experience for me as I dread going to salons. read more

I went to Thomas Scott for the first time with a gift certificate I had received a while ago. I have to say I was very underwhelmed with the salon and entire experience. I had a spa pedicure which included a paraffin dip. I do not think the service remotely warranted the $57 price that accompanied it. The salon itself is located in an older strip mall off of route 40 in Frederick. Nothing about the décor inside or out said high end to me which for $57 is what I expected. The woman who preformed my service was very personable and nice. She informed me I had a tear on my big toe (almost looked like a dent you get on your fingernail when you hit it on something) so she put some sort of glue and almost paper like material on my toe which no longer then 6 hours later completely tore my toe nail nearly to the skin so that was painful and disappointing. I was also expecting a better foot/calf massage for the price. Needless to say I still have money on my gift card so I will be thinking carefully of how I want to spend the remaining balance. The customer service from my nail tech was great in the aspect that she was very nice and personable, the salon (sorry to say) but the nail side (only side I saw) was not very clean and almost looked run down. I also go to this salon and spa (in addition to the one I just reviewed) but mainly for the 'salon' aspect of it. I call out this place because my hair stylist, Alex, is AWESOME. He has skills that you would find in high end salons! He knows how to work his scissors. I've had my nails done here a couple of times. It was an ok experience. Standard. I can't really say the look of the nail side of things is great. I don't know what their spa treatment rooms look like. The building and lay out isn't the best and needs updating but they probably can't really do much about that. It's most likely a leased space and it is what it is. The interior decorating and the waiting area is getting better, though. Anyhow, I'm giving this place 3 stars but calling out that Alex is definitely a 5-star stylist! I have been going to Thomas Scott for the past four years - religiously every five weeks for a facial and a massage. I have always had Rebekah and Suzanne. I have never been disappointed. Suzanne has magic hands and I swear she knows every muscle in the human body and can work out any and every hidden knits. I have been there with a migraine and she has done the reflexology pressure massage to make it go away. I absolutely adore her and would never ever go anywhere else or 'cheat' on her. Rebekah has been my confidant and a great support for my skin care needs - she always has the best advise and always does a fabulous job of changing things according to my skin's needs and changing seasons. I love this establishment! The staff is extremely friendly and do their best to make you happy. Denise ( has been doing my hair for at least five years now, and does a fantastic job. The only time I've ever had a problem was when she was unexpectedly out for a time, and someone else did my highlights. I didn't complain at the time, but the next time Denise saw me, she made it right! There is a separate area for nail services and tucked between is an enclosed spa area. The way it is separated from the main salon, helps keep these areas quieter. Depending on what room you receive spa services in, the experience can be slightly noisy and distracting. If you mention it to your tech, they will do what they can to make it right. For spa services, you are ushered to a separate waiting area/relaxation room where you can begin to unwind. Before many of the services, your tech will show you a place to change into a spa robe, and bring you back to the relaxation room for a nice foot soak. It happened that Rachael had a customer who changed her appointment to an earlier time so consequently she was able to take me immediately. She gave me an amazing haircut and explained everything she was doing and how I should handle the styling when I'm on my own. She did an amazing job especially since I came in after having a haircut somewhere else that was a challenge for her. She is also a master at coloring -- I always get rave review on my color whenever she does it. No one ever suspects that it is dyed (which I love) and they just assume it is my natural color. I have been to the location with my mom, who has been a loyal customer for around 6 years now. She raves about the place and Tammy, her hair stylist, and has always said that the service and staff have been perfectly fine. Well, I just received a call from my mom, very distressed, about her experience today, when she discovered inappropriate notes about her personality. While she was waiting to be seen for her nail appointment, she came across her printed "file," which included notes on her hair color treatment, and then, her personality. Notes included that she was thought of to be "abrasive." Needless to say, after 6 years of being a loyal customer of Tammy's, she felt betrayed and hurt by such a description. If Tammy, or the establishment, felt that way, they should have addressed it with her, rather than leaving notes for her to find. I understand that businesses may need to make notes about people, their needs and sometimes, even their personality, but no patron and paying customer, under ANY circumstance, should ever have to discover these notes themselves. It's sloppy, inappropriate, unkind, judgmental and frankly, stupid. I am appalled and sickened that notes on customers are written in such a cavalier fashion, without consideration, and left for anyone to find them...including patrons. I warn everyone that is ever considering going to this establishment, or is a current customer, to BEWARE as there are notes contained in the system that can include some unkind things. To add insult to injury, the salon did nothing to make it right. We will never return and I hope they learn their lesson that treating their paying and loyal customers like this is a very bad look and very bad for business. read more

I went for a pedicure and really enjoyed my technician and the service I received, but I when I went to use the restroom, I was very disappointed. Cracked soap dispenser, walls and sink were all chipped up and could have used a fresh coat of paint. Not very "spa" like at all. Truthfully, after using the restroom, I started to question the overall cleanliness of the facility and tools. This is in no way a reflection of the staff or technicians, but the lack of facility upkeep by management. Awful, horrible experience for my teenage daughter! She received two 3rd degree burns and one 2nd degree burns at the hands of their incompetent stylist. The stylist said my daughter was just being dramatic when she began to cry, they stylist even refused to get us ice to put on the burns! The next day I spoke with a woman who claimed to be an owner, all she did was give me a PARTIAL refund...not even a full refund! When I called back weeks later to inform them that my daughter was going to require surgery I was told "OK I will let the owner know" I never heard back from anyone! I finally had to hire a lawyer so my daughter could get her medical costs covered. My daughter suffered though months of pain and endured a painful surgery and is left with bald spots on her head because of this salon and we never even received so much as a "I'm sorry" from those people! The establishment itself is clean, modern, and professional. Always courteous staff greeting you at the door, checking you in, and offering a comfortable waiting area with coffee and water. Ruth has been my hairdresser for ~4 years now. I moved from out of state and luckily found her after only one bad experience elsewhere.
