Poor patient care experience and disregard for my time. I requested a medical form to be completed,…read moreand after noticing two sections were incomplete, I called and was told by the doctor that those sections could be filled out. I drove to the office to drop off the form, only to later be told by Dr. Moarefri that a $150 fee would apply. I would have understand and respected the fee for the later, more comprehensive requests, but I was specifically told these two sections could be completed. Instead, I made an unnecessary trip based on information that was not honored. Additionally, filling out the form would've been more straightforward & less time-consuming if my medical notes were thorough to begin with. The two receptionists were not necessarily rude, but I found their responses dismissive. My medical record only stated "mild condition X," and my files contained retina photos without written interpretations. Yesterday, when I explained that I needed more information for the form, the receptionist starting with the letter M said, "Well, that's just how doctors write notes," while another said on the phone today, "It's not incomplete; the pictures are there for other doctors to interpret." These responses felt dismissive of my concern. As a patient, I should be able to understand what my medical records and images show rather than be left without an explanation of my own condition. The interpretation of my own medical images are not just exclusive to other doctors. I previously left a positive review because I had a good experience with the eye evaluation. Was it thorough? Yes. Was the patient support equally good? Unfortunately, I can't say so. I also discussed LASIK candidacy with Dr. Moarefri, and I felt my concerns were somewhat dismissed. My myopia had increased by more than 2 diopters over six years as an adult, and when I expressed concern, I was told, "That's not a big increase." I was also encouraged to proceed with LASIK without what I felt was a balanced discussion of both the benefits and risks. As a doctor, he should be aware that lasik should only be recommended once the vision has stabilized. I believe patients deserve a realistic discussion of both the potential benefits and complications. A 99% success rate doesn't mean there is zero long-term risk. You can be fine for many years but develop sight-threatening complications (such as ectasia) down the line. You just never know. For me, that uncertainty was a risk I wasn't willing to take. This is why it's important to thoroughly research and listen to different perspectives before proceeding rather than solely relying on the judgement of one doctor -- especially when they make it sound like it's all sunshine and rainbows. Other lasik doctor I consulted with was honest enough to recommend surgery once my myopia stopped progressing. This experience made me realize how important it is to find a doctor who genuinely prioritizes informed decision-making and the patient's long-term well-being rather than simply promoting a procedure. LASIK may be a good option for some people, but patients should be given the full picture and enough information to make that decision for themselves.

I had unusually complex cases of brunescent cataracts (4+ and 4+++, weak corneal endothelium, and…read moredesire to maintain excellent close vision (-5 range). Dr. Devgan saved my sight and my life. Conventional ECCE surgery was the only recommendation from highly successful surgeons in SoCal including Kaiser Foundation who 99% of the time dealt with non-complex cases and quick surgeries using phacoemulsification procedures to extract the cataract lens which include high frequency vibrational aspects which generally do not disturb the posterior capsule or retina. However, in my case, using phaco could induce surgical or post surgical retinal detachment. ECCE (pre-phaco and femto surgical techniques were commonly used and was the only method recommended by other surgeons for 15 years). ECCE involves piercing and entering the anterior lens capsule through the cornea. This could result in a failed cornea and require a corneal transplant. ECCE also involves a very large incision, sutures, a protracted recovery and extended convalescence of many months. Greatly increased astigmatism generally results from such complex cases. Dr. Devgan perfected MSCIS surgery with 40,000 surgeries. This procedure uses a scleral tunnel technique wherein the small incision is made in the white of the eye (sclera) proximate to the lens capsule chamber and extracts the cataract lens and installs the IOL (implant lens), generally with the flap closing without sutures (I required 3 small hidden nylon sutures and one quick dissolving front suture). The operation and post surgery was painless. It did not disturb the retina as there was no strong phaco vibration involved. My corneas shrank back close to a safer thickness the day after and continued to become normal size (they were 120 micron edematous pre-surgery with weak endothelium structure). Four days post surgery I obtained corrective lens with nearly perfect vision which after 6 weeks met the exact corrective expectations of Dr. Devgan. He illustrated the mathematics of various IOL options for resolution distances per diopter of correction so I could choose the correction I wanted (3.5" inches to about 10" without glasses with prime focus at 8", then distance glasses). Dr. Devgan has mastered every aspect of manual manipulation for cataract surgery including use of alternative devices and securing the eye's physiology without resorting to more invasive phaco and ECCE techniques in preserving vision and greatly reducing negative potential mishaps during and post surgery. I owe my sight to his superior knowledge and experience. My optical case is in the 1% difficulty of cataract surgical challenges. For the majority of cataract cases, Dr. Devgan uses the least invasive techniques, the quickest surgery while preserving all optic physiology and in my case, 100% success, no pain and extremely quick recovery. I had 100% confidence when I was wheeled into surgery. The many prior surgeons I consulted made me feel afraid and extremely anxious to have them perform an ECCE type surgery. We are fortunate in SoCal to have the finest cataract surgeon located here.

Unfortunately, after healing from the surgery and having the radiation plaque put in for a week, my retina detached. I had to undergo another major surgery. Now my life will include continuous scans of my body to make sure that it has not metastasized. I feel I am in amazing hands with Dr. Tara. I have likely lost my hearing permanently due to the incompetent and delayed care I received here…read more I was given an "urgent" referral from my PCP following sudden hearing loss and was given an appointment several weeks out (already suboptimal but maybe unavoidable). When they brought me in, the doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong and told me I needed to see an "ear specialist." Why on earth they would have assigned me to someone who was NOT an ear specialist when I was coming in for hearing loss is beyond me. I waited to see that person and then was told she wanted me to go do a repeat of the audiology testing because she didn't trust the first testing even though it was done within their own office!! At that point, I decided to seek care through the House clinic downtown, where I was accommodated immediately due to the time sensitive nature of this concern and was met by very kind and competent doctors. Unfortunately, at this point, I am well beyond the window where it's likely that steroids could save my hearing. Do yourself a favor and start with the House clinic if you have any serious hearing concerns as this office does not appear to be able to manage them competently.
