Dr. Rauth has retired and in his place I had a root canal done by a new member of the practice, Dr. Adam Gluskin. I went thinking it was going to be as painful and horrific as my other root canal, done 15 years ago. Not even close! Zero pain!!! Every step of the way, Dr. Gluskin informed me of what he was doing. I was referred to Dr. Rauth by my dentist who had trouble with my first root canal. There were a lot of complications with it and Dr. Rauth was really kind and walked me through everything that had happened. I appreciate that he took the time to sit with me and talk out what was going on - my dentist made a bad call trying to do the root canal himself, and now there was damage that needed to be fixed. Dr. Rauth then took the time to do his research, speak to my dentist, and speak to his colleagues to make sure he could make the most informed decision for me before even going into any procedures. I went in again and he walked me through the game plan and was super transparent about it. He patched the perforation that my dentist had left, then we made a follow up appointment to do the root canal after. I really am grateful that he didn't rush the process. I know root canals can be uncomfortable, and his office is very far from where I live, but I would (in a heartbeat) go back because of how ethical the practice is run and how clearly he communicates his intentions. He has gone above and beyond to help me and to make sure the trauma of my first root canal doesn't stay with me. I also want to mention the assistant he had was really a lovely and funny person to speak with. In my experience, the staff at a lot of dental practices can be super busy and hard to get hold of but the entire staff in his office was very accommodating and booking appointments and asking my endless list of questions was a breeze. One last minor detail that I appreciate is that yes, the facilities are clean and beautiful, but the business cards are outstanding. The level of detail to each of the designs (I'm a designer), is really the icing on the cake. Kudos to whoever made the call on producing these. I rarely write reviews, but Dr. Thomas Rauth was stupendous in caring for me. He didn't urge a root canal but wanted me to wait a couple of days to see if my pain subsided. When it didn't, he got me into his office immediately which was such a relief as I was leaving for overseas in a week. The procedure was not painful, and explained beautifully by Dr. Rauth and his assistant who has been with him for sixteen years. Following is a continuation/update of my original July 2, 2021 recommendation on Yelp (Gungor D, top of page 1) for Dr. Thomas Rauth. Whatever I wrote earlier regarding this great root canal specialist is very accurate and correct - Dr. Rauth is still the best-of-the-best in his field. But... "WARNING" ... if you wish to retain him as your dentist, please do NOT make the mistake I made! My background is 40 years in the Entertainment Business - plus art, photography, architecture, and anything else very creative. It is customary among people like myself with similar backgrounds to always show their appreciation to those who have helped them by sending a thank-you note with flowers, fancy chocolates, etc. In the past I had several outstanding, wonderful dentists and doctors who helped keep me in good health. Unfortunately, most of them retired and moved away. I always showed them my gratitude by sending flowers or fancy chocolates. They always appreciated that, and I have many very nice thank you notes from them that I treasure. Last year, my boyfriend spent many hours on the computer in an attempt to find dental offices for me in the Valencia/Santa Clarita area, which is closer to where I live. He chose only the most highly recommended ones. I tried 4 of them - and not only did I lose $10,500, I also lost other teeth and ended up with a mouthful of terrible, serious problems. After this nightmare I went to Dr. Rauth and he helped me out. Because Dr. Rauth is evidently the only well-qualified dentist and the only one whose ethics you can trust, I wanted to show him my deepest gratitude the same way I showed gratitude to my past great dentists and doctors. So I sent Dr. Rauth and his office staff some fancy chocolates with a nice thank you note. WOW! My gift triggered the most surprising, unpleasant, and unexpected NEGATIVE REACTION from the doctor and his office staff. It appears to me they took my best intentions the wrong way. I presently have 2 painful teeth that could possibly be saved with root canals, but the doctor and his staff are ignoring my requests for an appointment. This is very puzzling, especially after years of their friendly and outstanding service. They are now handling me like there is something very wrong with me, as though I am suddenly an alien species doing weird things - scary! I don't understand what they think I am up to! So now my poor boyfriend, with poor health, is desperately trying to find me another good root canal specialist - if there are any. My advice to you: If you want to keep your good relationship with Dr. Rauth and his staff, do not show them your appreciation in the style I used - it backfires!! Do not show your gratitude. Many years i went to this doctor, older doctor, to do a root canal, the whole time he was sleep while performing the operation he was going in and out and i was scared for my life. they charge me about a thousand dollars, i paid some out of pocket. read more

I came in because my upper left molar broke and it was obvious something needed to be done about it. This is a tooth that I had had problems with in the past, to the point that my previous dentist in Canada had recommended that I get a root canal, which was done about three years ago. But he had told me that I would eventually need to get a crown and now that time had come. So I went to Dr. Chen in Santa Monica, thinking it would be a straightforward procedure. But Dr. Chen though he saw a slight shadow at one of the root tips and felt I should be seen by an endodontist, so he sent me to a Dr. Rauth. Dr. Rauth decided that my first root canal might not have been done completely and left some root material that might be abcessing, and said I needed to have the root canal re-done for a cost of $1700. This did not go so well. When he started to drill out the existing root canal through the filling, he discovered that there was a large titanium post inside the tooth (to aid with strengthening the remaining tooth material). He had NOT seen this on the x-ray, he said something about it not being metal, that they had not seen a titanium post like that before and the x-rays didn't show it. ?? Isn't titanium metal? Then he took over an hour vibrating it loose with an ultrasonic extractor. He worked so long on it that the heat from the tool he was using burned my gum from the inside out, something I didn't find out until the freezing wore off later that evening. I was in a great deal of pain for the next two weeks as it slowly burned its way from the inner surface of the gum to the outer, then blistered, broke, slowly healed (I started gargling with hydrogen peroxide because it wasn't healing, after that it did start to heal and fill in) and left a hole in my gum at the place where it touches that tooth. Because it had taken Dr. Rauth so long to vibrate the post out, he did not complete the root canal in that visit, and I couldn't come back until it had started to heal, which was two weeks later. When he finally did get down to the bottom of the roots he discovered that he had been wrong and there was no necrotizing root tissue present, the original root canal had been done perfectly well, and, in short, that there had been no need to do what he did. That didn't stop him charging me the $1700, however. I also found the staff to be brusque to the point of rudeness, felt like I was an interloper in their little world that they couldn't wait to get rid of. All in all one of, if not the most, unpleasant experience of my entire 60 years of dental experiences!! read more

You never hear people rave about a root canal, but I would definitely rave about the care and treatment I got from Dr. Rauth during my recent root canal. Everything went smoothly and quickly, and the worst part was just waiting for the novocaine to wear off. Also very kind and approachable if you have any questions or concerns during the procedure. Choose another Dentist, if there was a way I could stress the impact of his abilities as a Dentist and his person I would do so. He needs to retire, period. Take your dental problem and business decision, (since the cost is high), to a dentist who can give proper injections, not be in a rush, and help you make choices that work for your person. He or his staff do not even call to see how you are doing, as that is proper procedure as an Endodontist. He is burnt out, plan and simple...retire, go enjoy retirement and stop damaging and hurting patients who need proper and thoughtful care and consideration. Thomas Rauth did a root canal on me. He didn't do it correctly and left infected roots in the tooth. After coming back for nearly a year of follow ups I took it upon myself to get a second opinion and the new endodonist confirmed he had left me with infection in my tooth. Thomas Rauth was hoping the infection would go away but never told me it was still in my tooth - just kept me coming back for follow ups. He caused me endless time and pain. Is it possible to combine the words love and endodontist? Dr. T Rauth and his team are incredible professionals and it's hard to find a practice that's this caring and patient-focused. I came from being a patient for nearly 20 years in Harvard Medical practices and I've now seen Dr. Rauth for several complex procedures and he is head and shoulders above other dentists and doctors in terms of the amount of time he spends ensuring his patients are well-informed and making the best decisions on treatment options. I am indebted to Dr. Rauth for his care, honesty and candor. I had been suffering from intense, persistent pain for months which he could have easily attempted to cure with the standard response - a root canal. Instead, he examined me in detail on two separate occasions and ultimately refused to perform any procedures because he insisted that I needed to see a neurologist (I did and my pain issue has been resolved). There are few in the dental profession who would take the time and go to the effort to diagnose my problem as Dr. Rauth did. The pain I was experiencing was brutal and virtually impossible to diagnose (others tried) but he figured it out. I would recommend Dr. Rauth without hesitation to anyone needing dental care. wow and wow! I have never been a fan of getting work done on my teeth, probably like most people, but Doctor Rauth and his staff made me feel comfortable and at ease. At their office they suggest you get there 15min. before your appointment which usually means you will be sitting there for those 15min. plus more, but NOT at Doctor Rauth's office. I got there two separate times 15min. early and was taken immediately into room. When I was in room one of his polite, and friendly staff was there to greet me and ask me if I had any questions and to explain what Doctor Rauth would be doing. Having never had a root canal, just saying that sounds scary, I did have questions not only did I get answers from the knowledgable staff, Doctor Rauth also explained everything step by step how and what he was going to do. When the procedure began I was completely numb and felt absolutely nothing, which is EXACTLY how a root canal should be. I wasn't nervous or anxious before, during, or after. When finished your not rushed out of the room like some places, Doctor Rauth talks to you and explains again what he did and proceeds to tell you if you have any issues or problems before next appointment call him and they will get you right in. When making my next appointment they ask you what works for you and thats it your in. I can't reiterate enough how AMAZING and PROFESSIONAL Doctor Rauth and his staff were. Dr. Tom Rauth is top notch! My step-daughter had a root canal at another dentist office a couple years prior to seeing Dr. Rauth. It had started to give her a lot of pain. Dr. Rauth showed her on her digital images the area with of the root that was causing her the problem. Basically, the root canal had to be redone. He explained everything very clearly and with great detail. My daughter expected the procedure to be painful, as it had been with the other doctor, but was surprised that it didn't hurt at all! She has been pain free for many years now, can chew very comfortably, even forgetting she ever had root canals in that tooth. Dr. Rauth didn't charge an exorbitant fee, but I'd have gladly paid more for the high quality of service he provides. Five Stars aren't enough! After a week of level 12 excruciating pain (on a scale of 1-10) I was fortunate to land in the chair of Dr Rauth as an emergency patient he took on short notice after work hours. My original dentist failed to respond to my emergency calls and I so I went to my boyfriends dentist who couldn't find the issue but put me on tylenol and ibuprofen considering the pain level alternating ea dosage every two hours (which together is 6x more frequent than the OTC bottle directions). After a week of that with no affect on the pain but on my stomach, I pleaded to be referred to someone else who might help me find and rectify the problem and the referral went to Dr Rauth. I have to tell you, the referring dentist was more than reluctant and not respecting my situation. I had to demand a referral. By the time Dr Rauth saw me, I was at the end of my week long sleepless rope and he noted my reserves were depleted. I may as well have been tortured for a week because I got no sleep and no answers but learned a lot about pain. He calmed me down and started his analysis. In a matter of minutes what stumped the others he found. He found a fractured tooth that was unsalvagable. How this was missed by others is mystifying. He said given the level of pain I was in, he was going to remove the nerve he said so that I could have a civilized end of my day and make sure I got sleep that night. He then referred me to a next day emergency oral surgeon to remove the tooth itself. He also found two abscesses which is remarkable given my last check up was recent. But the fact is, I walked in glazed over with tears welling and walked out pain free and relieved. I've never written on Yelp before but I've never had an experience quite like this either. . Dr Rauth is the consummate professional with a very wonderful manner and extremely skilled. Later I learned from others that in Santa Monica (and beyond I'm sure), Dr Rauth IS the endodontist at the top of the heap. Everyone knows that, and now I do as well and I'm telling you. Wish I knew of Dr. Rauth when I first needed a root canal. Previous general practice Dentist (not an Endodontist) unfortunately didn't do the best root canal procedure on me, and years later root area became infected which was unbelievably painful. Referred to Dr. Rauth. He corrected past work and did the root canal I should have received the first go around. I didn't need to be a licensed doctor to see the quality difference in x-rays between his work and my initial root canal. Follow up skills have been top notch. Dr. Tom Rauth completed a root canal for me. He was very professional, informative, and caring throughout the whole process. My situation ended up being a little more serious with the tooth infection going into my nasal cavity, but he took the extra time to help explain things to me and even spoke with my Ear Nose and Throat doctor at Kaiser to try and solve the issue. They even provide CDs with the scan on it to take to my Kaiser Doctor. 6 months after the root canal, they offer a free follow up X-ray to ensure everything is still looking good. I recently had to undergo a root canal and Dr. Thomas Rauth was the endodontist to whom my dentist referred me. I was very pleased with the office staff and Dr. Rauth was very pleasant and seemed to be incredibly knowledgable. Since any invasive dental work that I have needs to be done under general anesthetic, I have my own dental anesthesiologist and Dr. Rauth was perfectly happy with that and did not attempt to convince me to use any of the doctors he had used in the past, which I found extremely nice. The procedure went 100 percent well and unlike other root canals I have had in the past, I had nearly no post op pain, which is VERY unusual for me. I also thought the fees were reasonable and on one occasion, I had to have Dr. Rauth check something after the root canal on a separate visit and I was not charged for the exam or office visit. I was referred to Dr. Rauth by my dentist because of a resorption problem with one tooth. Thru X-Ray Dr. Rauth discovered a 2nd tooth that was also undergoing resorption. Dr. Rauth performed two root canals and fillings. I found Dr. Rauth to be both extremely competent and extremely pleasant. I was having terrible pain in my upper right tooth. I was referred to Dr. Rauth through my Dentist. For starters the office is extremely nice. Very clean and new. The office staff is very helpful and nice. Dr. Rauth is one of the nicest endodontists you will ever meet. He knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it.
