One year post op: I was warned that some gum might grow back and in all honesty I didn't continue to brush toward the gum with the special brush as I was instructed. But... The gum stayed put! Dr. Gaffaney is unprofessional and rude, likely misogynistic. I went for a consultation for a procedure that was not familiar to me (though I do have experience with oral anatomy and structures due to my profession) and that seemed complex/intimidating so I had a lot of questions for the doctor. It's clear this man is not accustomed to being questioned because he met my questions with sarcasm/mockery and gaslighting, at one point telling me to "stop asking so many questions. I don't have time to give a full anatomy lesson to you!" And "There you go again.....more questions..." I don't care if any of this was said in jest; this is not appropriate care or bedside manner at all. His ego clearly operates at the forefront and he doesn't like that a woman had knowledge of the oral mechanism and has very specific questions. In terms of the office experience, the office is fine if it were 1983. Not a place I would want to receive oral surgery for concerns of cleanliness and lack of use of new tools, etc. Everything looked archaic down to the fans in the room. The front desk woman, who I think is his wife named Carrie, was polite if you don't cross her. But I had concerns with a bill received and then she was very rude and defensive on the phone- not answering my questions and dodging the point of my call. They did not inform me of the cost or the name of the consultation service that I received that day (which was actually an eval) and thus did not tell me they would be billing insurance or for how much. While I have dental insurance, I like to know what is being done and appreciate up front and honest care. I instead went to see Dr. Scheines in Cerritos for my gingival graft and she took over 40 minutes answering my questions alone and explaining the process of the procedure to me. Her office also gave a complete breakdown on paper of the cost of the evaluation, plus the cost of surgery, and what insurance would cover. Yesterday I came in to the office for a consultation as a cash patient paid $85 for the consultation which I was told on the phone that the consult is going to include the exam and x-rays. I got called in, they took some x-rays and after that I was waiting for the doctor to do the exam. He comes in doesn't say anything pokes like 4 teeth gets up and said he needs more x-rays than they tell me the x-rays are going to cost $85 more on top of the consult visit. I let them know that they told me it was $85 for x-rays and exam and they were giving me the run around. The doctor never did the exam and they told me just to go in when I have the funds to paid. I just felt humiliated by the staff and doctor they pretty much took my $85 and they didn't do anything. Never coming back. read more

Dr. Gaffaney and his staff are extremely friendly and professional. For about 2 years, they offered me the best patient service I could imagine. I came to his office for 2 implants - the procedure was pain-free and the check-ups were simple and fast. After surgery, I decided to straighten my teeth out with braces. Because of this, Dr. Gaffaney had to monitor my implants and wait for my braces treatment to be completed before he could put on the final abutments and implants. Dr Gaffaney is a wonderful dentist and went above and beyond what any other doctors would have done. Dr Gaffaney was recommended to my father for a second opinion for his dental problem. My dad has some dental issues and since he had oral cancer previously, the problem was extremely delicate on how best to handle it. Rather than just giving his opinion and being done with my dad, He went out of his way to contact other doctors who had been involved such as his dental oncologist, radiation doctor and regular dentist. Together they came up with the best plan of action for my dad. Dr Gaffaney was very considerate what caring with my dad's unique problem. Thank you Dr Gaffaney for looking out for my father!! I made an appointment for my boyfriend to have a consultation with Dr. Gaffaney. The staff did not advise us that they were going to bill his insurance company $70 for the consultation regarding his gums. Then the proposed treatment plan entailed Dr. Gaffaney to do a deep cleaning (which my boyfriend had already gotten one month ago from his General Dentist) and wanted to charge $1200 for that deep cleaning.Isn't that redundant when a deep cleaning will not reach the pockets that are 9mm? So, that consultation was a waste of time. Dr. Gaffney's office billed $70 (of the allocated allowance with boyfriend's insurance) with no real service rendered to fix the periodontitis. Learn my lesson.. always find out if the consultation is free or not!! P.S. NOT ALL MEDICAL SERVICES (ie. dentist, cosmetic surgeons, etc) charge for a consultation. AND IF THEY DO, they tell you over the phone before you make an appointment. I had gone to a Beverly Hills Cosmetic surgeon to get a consultation about the revision of my breasts augmentation, and the reception failed to tell me about the $100 consultation fee when I made the appointment over the phone. When I arrived there, she realized her mistake and the doctor WAIVED the consultation fee. In addition, my boyfriend and I went to another periodontist in Arcadia called The Ivy Institute (www.ivydentalspecialists.com). Was referred Dr. Gaffaney for oral surgery. I needed more gum over the root of a tooth, which required a skin graft. A fairly complicated and potentially procedure that was executed professionally, efficiently, and effectively. His staff are professional, the nurse who assisted the procedure was great (even called to check on me after a few days), and Dr. Gaffaney was confident and skilled. First, they have him listed here as oral surgeon but he is a periodontist (that's a person who specializes in gums) so he does surgery, but also much more. The staff was very friendly and squeezed me in the same day I called even though I wasn't a current patient. The Dr. was also very nice and informative. This is one of the easiest reviews that I have had the pleasure of writing. Dr. Gaffaney has done five implant surgeries for me, and I cannot rate him highly enough for his work and professionalism. If I could give him and his office staff 6 or 7 stars I would definitely do it. As I mentioned above, I have had five implants done( 2 upper and 3 lower), and I was one of the rare patients who had a problem with my first upper implant procedure. In building up enough bone for the upper implant, the sinus canal can be slightly disturbed which can cause a severe headache. I called Dr. Gaffaney around 7:00 pm, and he came from his home and met me in his office at 8:00 pm to give me a Toradol injection. This, in my opinion, was exceptional, because he could just as easily have sent me to a hospital emergency room. After reading some of the negative reviews on Dr. Gaffaney and his office, I would just like to say that these reviews tell more about the reviewer rather than the doctor. I can say with no hesitation that if I should need any further periodontal work in my future, I will go directly to Dr. Gaffaney. read more

I got a sinus lift and a bone graft done by Dr Gaffaney several months ago. It was a big job and saying I was scared of the procedure would be putting it lightly. Everyone in the office put my mind at ease. Each visit he was only polite and welcoming. He smiled and made me feel very comfortable. Dr Gaffaney is one of the only dentists able to keep me numb. He did a fantastic job and I was totally comfortable during the 2 hours I was there. I didn't feel a thing. I have to have more work done next year and I will only see him for my periodontal needs. Well first I would just like to take some time to praise the staff! I'm very impressed with their professionalism, the way they accommodated me with all my scheduling, they really made feel like an important patient, and they just really went above and beyond with all my requests! Dr. Gaffaney is amazing!! It was a very long process for me to get 2 implants, I had to get braces and go through a long process, but IT WAS WORTH IT! During the procedure he was awesome, they gave me a blanket to make me more comfortable, the nurse held my hand and he was very respectful! He would stop make sure I was doing well during the procedure. Afterwards the follow up appointments were wonderful and the healing went by fast! Honestly this was worth every penny! Except for a damaged tooth in 1974, I have had no dental work done in my life. So it was a painful experience to have a toothache last month. I went to one dentist, took X rays and he said there is no problem. So I called Dr. Jayanti Keshav- Rio Hondo Dental in Downey. After looking at X-rays, he said there is crack in one tooth and it has to come out. Dr. Keshav sent me to Dr. Gaffaney for consult. One look at CT scan and he confirmed that tooth has to come out and make an implant. Now I hate needles. I tense up when they take blood. So here I am in a Dentist chair, first time in 50 years (except for periodic clean up) and I am telling him how much I do not like shots. My eyes are tightly shut and I am waiting for the needle, waiting and waiting. All of a sudden the doctor says- Ok. all done. I never had an easy shot like this. Tooth came out without any pain, the implant went in just fine. No pain later on (minor discomfort). within a day, I was fine in all respects. This office has a great staff. Believe it or not, visit to dental office can be comfortable. I would highly recomment this doctor. read more

I came to see him after another dentist had improperly performed a surgery that left exposed bone in my jaw. His staff was very kind and got me in to see him within an hour.
