This is my experience and mine alone. That of other customers may differ…read more A while ago I had my extensions done here, several times, by a lady named Rachael (Rachel?). Whilst the salon itself, and quality of her work, cannot be faulted, her interpersonal skills WITH ME (NOT others) were horrendous. First of all, she was half an hour late for our first appointment, for which she didn't apologize or even offer an explanation. Secondly she was consistently rude towards me. I have a disability, in addition to social anxiety, which I told her about from the outset; she honed in on these things and kept making fun of me for them (this was even confirmed afterwards by a friend who attended one of the appointments with me; as expected, Rachael (sp?) was all smiles with my friend). Rachael (sp?) even went so far as to blame me for her "getting in trouble" for booking an appointment with me. I watched her interact with colleagues and other customers, with whom she was the picture of amicability. When I confronted her about this (after our final appointment) she said I deserved [to be bullied] because I was "weak". I only returned in the first place because, at that time, I wasn't aware of any other decent hair extensionists in the area. Given the choice I absolutely wouldn't have, on account of this particular stylist. It's a shame that a decent salon, and skilled work even by the person in question, can be devalued because of certain people's attitude. I don't know if Rachael (sp?) still works with Alter Ego, but if she doesn't I would consider giving the place a chance again.

However, it is tucked away next to Wilkinsons, and if you didn't previously know about it you wouldn't know it was there. This was a good thing when it first started out, but now the secret is out! Straws is famous with students for it's £1 shots. All night, all shots! So this small respectable bar has become the heaving hub of the student pre-night-out culture. It is literally tiny, with about a 50 (at a push) capacity, so is not the best place to go if you're looking for a quiet drink, however if you're going to get cheaply tipsy in preparation for a heavy night then this is the place to be.

Went for the manicure and my manicurist was an absolute doll, the sweetest lady. However, my french…read moremani cost £19 and chipped off by the end of the day.. and by the end of the day, I mean I had an appointment at 6pm and my nails were chipped by 12am. I believe that because the polish was an older and therefore thicker, it caused there to be too much polish on my nails. There was a definite huge rise on the tip of my nail as a result of this, and I am not new at manicures. If i am paying £19 for a basic manicure (that didn't even remove most of my cuticle), then I expect it to last at least a few days. Overall: Manicures are a no-no. Hair is so-so. If you are desperate, then go-go.

"Why did you go there?" said a colleague who`d been there and experienced it for herself. The guy who runs the shambles (Skye) is NOT a hairdresser and whips around the girls saying, "cut faster!". What an animal. He wasn`t there the day I visited, unfortunately, because if he had been I reckon I`d have placed him through one of the windows! The so-called hairdresser who pruned my head (like a shrub) a/ didn`t speak very much English b/ hacked at my hair without wetting it...which scared me immediately and c/ tried to argue with me when I stopped her from cutting any more! I HOPE THEY CLOSE DOWN!
