Huh, it's "funny" how I've submitted this review before and it was removed. We got the cake for my bridal shower here and the decoration and writing was so sloppy it looked like I had done it. It was to the point where it wasn't even my name on the cake because it was so unreadable. When we called them about it, they were VERY RUDE with no sense that there was a problem. They offered no solution saying that the decorator wasn't even there that day. If you need anything decorated at all, don't go here. read more

Mary, the cake specialist, worked quickly with my mother and I to create the perfect wedding cake. It was delicious and exactly what I wanted. Aesthetically pleasing. As a 26 year old bride, I was nervous since Mary is older that she might not understand my design wishes. I should never have doubted her! She created a beautiful cake that was even better than I had imagined. The cake got TONS of compliments while awaiting our pick up the day of my wedding & even more among my family and friends. Up front: they do NOT accept credit cards. Bring cash. This place is adorable. An older woman seems to make most of the cakes and run the register. Their white Bavarian cake is one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten - it would be perfect for a wedding or birthday cake. It isn't too sweet, the frosting was light and creamy, and the cake had good crumb without being dry. They were out of it the next time I came, sadly. They didn't have the Black Forest cake that day either, but I'm guessing it's amazing. I will definitely be back. read more

My husband purchased two birthday cakes for me from Thomas's Cakes. One was supposed to be a German Chocolate Cake. The cake was very dry and the batter was a devils food cake with German Chocolate Frosting. German Chocolate Cake is made with German Chocolate that can even be purchased in a grocery store. I called the bakery to tell them about it and they said that next time they would do better. I will not say there will not be a next time but I certainly will think twice before going back. Moved nearby and stopped in to get a feel for the bakery and check out what they have to offer. The cakes in the display are beautiful and look delicious. I had to resist the temptation to buy a cake since it probably wouldn't be finished. I saw the decorator in the back decorating a beautiful cake, and I know where I'll be ordering the next family birthday cake! From the display case, I ordered the Hawaiian cheesecake (I think) and tiramisu. Holy crap. The cheesecake was delicious, I think it was baked and had some pineapple flavor to it. But the real prize was the tiramisu. A massive piece and it was just delicious. The ladyfingers were soggy from the dessert but it just made it perfect. I might just forego the cake and order a pan of this. I also tried some of the cookies. I'm not sure on the pricing, but I had picked out a few and she told me I could get one more for the same price. Honestly some of the cookies were kind of hit or miss. The macaroons were to die for though. Overall, I am definitely coming back but might stick to my beloved tiramisu. read more

Wonderful bakery and owner! I ordered a custom Llama cake for my sister's baby shower. The owner, Sonali, was very helpful over the phone. I found a stuffed animal and sent her the photo via email. She was able to make a cake to match the stuffed animal! When I went in to check the design, she was spot on with what we had discussed. The finished cake was adorable. Everyone loved how it looked, and even better, how it tasted. It was soooo moist and delicious. Even the fondant was yummy. Amazing cake shop!! Cute little mom and pop store with extremely friendly owners. They did an amazing job on the white Bavarian with raspberry filling - so many compliments from our guests! Not only did it look incredible, but it was also one of the best cakes I've ever eaten. I wanted a cake that was big enough for about 40 people, and the owners worked with me to make sure I got the right size. They actually talked me into a smaller cake than I was thinking, assuring me it would be enough for everyone. Sure enough, they were right! They also waited after closing as I was running late commuting from Dearborn. They care about their customers and their work. Definitely one of my favorite places to go. read more

Due to an unexpected situation, I e-mailed the shop a last-minute request for a German Chocolate Cake (hard to find) when the shop was closed and to my surprise, I received an immediate response that cake would be ready the next day by noon for pick up !!! Birthday cake is a BIG deal for me...it's my most favorite part of the celebration. Back in 2005, I ordered a birthday cake for the first time from Thomas Cake Shop; it was also the last, as they switched owners and I wasn't sure if the quality was going to be the same. When I read in a local paper the previous owners had returned, I was beyond elated. My 2005 birthday cake was perfect (which was a far cry from being in tears the year before with another Troy bakery cake); I have since not been able to have that perfect cake or pleasant experience. Cannot wait to start getting cakes from Thomas again; placing an order soon for my son's birthday - hoping they duplicate the delicious buttercream and moist cake of 2005! The prices are great too! The cake Sonali made turned out very good. I was in search of a special cake to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. I showed Sonali a picture of the cake I wanted. Sonali made the cake perfectly. It was made in the exact image of the picture I had showed her. Not only did the cake look good, but it tasted good. It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't tasteless or dry. The cake was soft and moist. I was so excited to try a piece of cake from this bakery hoping to find a closer bakery for buying cakes so I made time on a Saturday to stop by. I ordered 2 slices of buttercream cake from the case. The nice bakery gave me a taste of some sort of light filling while I waited. It was SO good. I couldnt wait to get home and eat that slice of cake. Unfortunately, the cake was a huge disappointment. It was completely dry and stale. Not even just at the edges, it was dry the entire way through. Yuk! Now, I'm sure that fresh cakes are much better but I will never buy anything out of the case. The White Bavarian is the first cake that I tasted at Thomas's. It was $25 and worth every cent. It was light, not too sweet which I love that in my cakes. The mousse filling was tasteful yet not overpowering which is the case for most cakes, but not Thomas's. The cake was the most moist, light, palette pleasing, complementary cake I have ever had. I can't stop thinking about this cake. My family celebrates a ton of birthdays starting in late February through April and everyone has said the White Bavarian cake I bought for my brothers birthday from Thomas Cake Bakery was by far the best cake. This was a cake I bought that day, so I could only imagine what there order to made cakes taste like. What I can't stop thinking about is how well this cake complements itself. From the icing, the mousse filling, to the cake, you are not overpowered by anyone of them. Oh and the rasberry filling layer added just the perfect amount of tart to this cake.The one thing that I might change is all the white chocolate shavings. Not a big fan of white chocolate, but for that cake it was perfect for, but for my taste maybe just a smidge less. I found this place only because I yelped birthday cakes. So thanks Yelpers!! Delicious! This is a very special place. Coming from out of town, I needed to arrange a birthday cake for my father's 90th birthday party. Sonali, the baker, was extremely helpful in deciding which cake to get - I went with a half- sheet Swiss chocolate black forest. The cake wound up being the star of the party, I'm not kidding! People wanted to know where I bought it, guests begged to take large slices home. ( Well one woman begged). We went back the next two days in a row because my sister-in-law loves sweets and she wanted to try the White Bavarian cake which Mary and Sonali assured us was even better than the Black Forest. We wound up buying cupcakes, muffins and slices of the famous white cake and it was super tasty although by then I was a bit "sugared out." You could just tell that everything there is made with pure, real ingredients - nothing tasted fake or overly sweet which may be the real secret.
