Auld's bakery on the corner of Great Western Road and Bank Street seems a little out of place among its neighbours in the West End. Having associated this bakery chain with my hometown (which is a far cry from the bohemian west end), I was almost surprised to see it. However with delicatessens, cheesemongers and patisseries to rival with, this little bakery adds a refreshing and affordable alternative.
As I used to live on Bank Street, I would occasionally pop in on my way home for a treat. As you'd expect there are the usual delights- scones, tea cakes, iced buns, muffins, breads and tea & coffee. It's mostly used as a takeaway however there are a couple of window seats for you to sit & enjoy your cuppa. The scones are particularly good, and it's probably why I've returned so often.
The coffee isn't of the same quality as Costa a few doors down however it's a fraction of the price- and it's always a good feeling to buy a coffee and cake and not feel like you're being robbed. read more
