Later the bartender interrupted a patron's order to yell when her favorite number was called, then went on to explain it (to they guy who didn't ask--and who was mid-order), calling anyone bothered by it "assholes." That shift in tone explains why some longtime workers and patrons have started choosing to go elsewhere. If you're looking for a spotlight on the bartender who's trying a little too hard to be edgy, this bar might be for you. If you're looking for a relaxed place to eat and play bingo, it would take some changes from ownership to get back to that.

The amount of romances and babies that have resulted from ACES ON FIRST is probably what keeps the population of Duluth above the 2.1 children-per-woman needed to prevent a society's extinction. A Fantastic Transformation and a Great Addition to Superior…read more Having been to the building when it was Shorty's, I have to say the transformation into Mazi is absolutely incredible. From the moment we pulled up, it was obvious how much work went into the renovation. The parking lot was completely redone, and the entire exterior looked fresh and inviting. Once inside, we were really blown away by the decor. The tables and chairs were comfortable and stylish, the bar area looked great, and there was even a nice lounge area. The bathrooms were also very well done. Overall, they did an exceptional job completely refurbishing the building and turning it into a beautiful restaurant. There were six of us celebrating a birthday, and we started with a couple of appetizers. The smoked olives were very well received, and the bone marrow was excellent. Our waiter also recommended getting some additional bread to go with the bone marrow, which turned out to be a great suggestion. Our young waiter was fantastic throughout the evening--very attentive and helpful, although unfortunately I can't remember his name. We also enjoyed a variety of cocktails and mocktails, which were very good. For dinner, three of us ordered the fish and chips, one had the mussels, one ordered the New York strip, and I had the chicken and waffles. The fish and chips were a huge hit. The fish was walleye, and the portions were enormous--so much so that there were plenty of leftovers. The walleye was cooked really well, and the fries were excellent. I had the chicken and waffles, and they were really, really good. There were jalapeño bits and a barbecue-style sauce that gave the dish a nice combination of sweetness with just a little bit of heat. It was a generous portion, and I was definitely full when I finished. The New York strip was also very well received, and the mussels were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The only minor criticism was that the broth for the mussels seemed a little on the salty side. Otherwise, they were excellent. Of course, we couldn't leave without dessert. We ordered the crème brûlée, chocolate mousse cake, and cheesecake. All three were phenomenal. In fact, we couldn't even agree on which one was our favorite--which is a pretty good problem to have! Overall, Mazi is a fantastic addition to the Twin Ports dining scene. The transformation from Shorty's is remarkable, the atmosphere is beautiful, the portions are generous, and the food was excellent. It's clear that a lot of thought and effort went into creating this restaurant. We'll definitely be back and will be recommending Mazi to others looking for a great place to eat in Superior.

Cannot recall the name but I think it was the only tequila cocktail on the cocktail menu. It was super refreshing. The service was good. Our server was Blake and he was very nice. We sat next to a nice couple who were in their 90's. Such a lovely experience. I was so happy to hear they have a Mediterranean restaurant in superior but now that I've gone and love it, I will definitely be a regular.
