I'm sorry but I was so excited to try this place since there was a massive queue outside but when I had a bite I was very disappointed. There's all different types of meats but just isn't what I expected. There's a window out front where you can see these ladies making the sandwiches. It was so cold in Paris and we didn't feel like going out to eat. Luckily we found this gem on a food delivery app. We were craving the crunchy baguette and delicious pork with carrots and cilantro. One of my goals for my Paris trip was to see if banh mi were better in France than back in the U.S.! Found this spot online and made my way to the compact Little Vietnam neighborhood along Avenue d'Ivry below the Tolbiac station in the 13th arrondissement. Watch for the broad burgundy awning and step inside. As you order one of a half dozen choices at the counter, you'll be asked if you want the sandwich "spicy" (not sure what that meant since I said no.) There's no seating at all so grab your sandwich wrapped in the (greasy) wax paper sleeve and be on your way. The bread was as wonderful as I'd hoped. The bauguette was lightly warmed and crisp to the bite and probably delicious on its own. The fillings, however, were just ol. There was no cilantro and no daikon radish so not sure if that's a French thing or just this place. Every so often I'll have a banh mi craving so bad that I can't think of anything else. Luckily for whenever I'm in Quartier Chinois, I can depend on Thieng Heng (天興) for a good rendition of what I consider a quality Vietnamese sandwich. They have such a reputation that they've become one of Paris' most well known Viet businesses boasting what is arguably the finest bread in the world -- la baguette. For starters, banh mis are among the most affordable meal options in France. The ingredients are fresh as is the hearty baguette, which has just enough crisp on the bottom for a truly awesome bite. Thieng Heng's version is naturally a bit different from the version served in the states, even Vietnam. Theirs is more akin to a Subway foot long yet somehow more light than heavy, but I'm not complaining. I always aim for their house special (dac biet), which is always a good mix of veggies and meats. Their xiu mai (meatball?) looks tasty as well and I think they have a vegetarian version that consists of only tofu. The ladies who are in the window constantly stacking the sandwiches should gladly whip up whatever the heart desires, which in my case is extra paté. Naturally, they serve more than just banh mi. They have a full on Viet menu full of the classic dishes like pho, ca ri, cha gio, goi cuon, etc. They have some other random dishes like fried rice and pad thai that are a bit of an eye roll. The last time I was here, I was in a massive group of folks that ordered a little bit of everything. The sandwiches were dry and lacked flavor. The fresh spring roll tasted at least a day or two old and was bland even with the sauce. We ended up throwing the majority of it away. Visiting from Los Angeles, I was recommended to try this Banh Mi spot by this Vietnamese girl who claims it was the best she's ever eaten! So I had to try it even tho it was an one hour metro ride away!! My thoughts? The sandwich was pretty good, lots of flavor, lots of carrots/veggies (which is a a huge plus)... but I still love my banh mi sandwiches in Los Angeles more! Service was quick and easy! I like banh mi sandwiches....we get these back home a lot. But somehow the ones here taste different...good different. Perhaps it's the baguette? The ingredients? We came here to grab a light bite on our last day in paris. Having a Vietnamese sandwich in Paris was on my to-do list and this one had one of the better reviews. It's a take away place, service is quick and the sandwiches are delicious. We both had the special pork sandwich super plus! Haha back home, the small sandwiches are not very filling so not knowing what to expect here we just went with the bigger portion option for €3,30 instead of €2,70. Btw, super plus doesn't mean a bigger baguette, it just means they add more filling. Just like the banh mi places back home, there's a bunch of older Vietnamese ladies working here preparing all the sandwiches. But these ladies here speak both French and English. The baguettes seem denser, almost seems like they hollow out the soft breading part which is much better! The pork was tasty, the pickled carrots are really good and spicy, they don't add a lot of mayo sauce, which is perfect because I hate when they douse it with sauce. Everthing about this banh mi was tasty! Family friends of a family friend treated my cousin and I to some of the yummliest grilled chicken banh mi. Bread was super crisp crust on the outside with fluffy tender inside. Veggies were perfectly seasoned in julienned fashion. The local auntie & uncle said TH had been there for decades, selling hundreds of sandwiches daily with same sandwich recipes. Right amount of seasoned homemade sauce and spicy aftertaste w/bearable heat. Can't argue with that! NOTE: Euros only. Didn't see a card reader. After having eaten here a number of times and then tried a couple of other places, I feel the need to adjust my review for this banh mi farm: The good: - the sandwiches are really tasty - the price is right at 2.60 and sandwich and you can pay more to super size. - I still recommend that house special but i also like the pork special - the ratio of meat to garnish is okay - could use more meat but it's not a burden (i haven't found a place that give you a good portion anyway) The not so good: - their baguette isn't as good quality has Hoa Nam down the road - the chili is not distributed evenly within the sandwich so you will often just get one bite of chili for the entire thing It's still my go-to place in the area until I can find something better. read more

The meat was pretty authentic and the flavors, but they don't use the pickled daicons white radish in their sandwiches. I used to go here a lot when I was a kid (it's still there after more than 20 years!). My favorite is the Special Pate/Maison sandwich. Their bread is usually on the chewy side, which I like and enjoy (it is sometimes crunchy, but it hurts your gums like crazy). The vegetables seem to be fresh and crunchy. The sauces are sweet and the pate is oh-so-yummy. And, it's cheap! Don't forget to upgrade your sandwich with the "Super Plus" size (one whole entire baguette to enjoy). This is the best vietnamese sandwhich shop that I have found so far in this neighborhood. Though there is usually a long line, they are super quick and you shouldn't have to wait more than about 7 minutes. The prices are very honest; about 3€ for chicken or beef, 2.30€ for tofu, and 1€ for a bottle of water. If the line is too long, Hao Tang across the street is nearly as good. read more
