When you're done with Bath's excellent indie shops and marveled at the city-scape, and lunched to bursting, the Thermae Bath Spa offers a destination to kick-back and relax for a couple of hours. Right in the centre of town, in a dedicated building, the Thermae Bath Spa draws its hot water from the natural springs below the city, piping them in to a range of pools and steam rooms. The highlight without a doubt is the rooftop pool with views over the city, abbey, and Bath's surrounding hills. Inside the building, there's a larger, generally quieter pool at ground level and a sauna area in the middle. During your time at the spa, which is typically a 2 hour visit, you can move freely between these areas. Perhaps in keeping with Bath's Roman heritage, the Thermae Bath Spa has a public-bath feel about it. Make no mistake that while it is lovely, clean and relaxing, it is not a luxury 5* hotel style spa. In many ways this works in its favor: It never feels stuffy or too posh; You don't have to whisper; And if you want refreshments, they're not too crazy expensive. Top Tip: You can hire robes and slippers if you want, but don't feel you have to. As I said, this ain't too posh so no one is going to look at you funny if you're just wandering around in your swimming cossie. I booked well in advance, but became very sick. I was super contagious, and what I had booked was very expensive. I called a day in advance to try to reschedule or get a partial refund. I was told, in short, that I would get nothing, except a 2 hour voucher, which was worth less than a quarter of what I had already paid for. If this is the kind of service you get, next time I should just come in and risk making everyone in the vicinity sick, however as a responsible adult I won't do that. The company ought to consider creating some kind of a fair and responsible answer as well. I was open to nearly any solution, and was told, (I paraphrase) sucks to be you. read more

My visit was part of a wonderful city break in Bath so may be slightly coloured by the rest of my trip, but I could not recommend this place highly enough. Everything about it, from the wonderful hot rooftop pool to the extensive hydrotherapy pool and aromatherapy steam rooms was a delight, and the location in the historic Roman spa town only makes a visit here more magical. I can't recall the price details of Thermae spa, but remember being impressed at the value for money. I'd love to go again if I was ever in the area! read more

Love love love this spa!! Worth the visit for 2 floors of pools - one rooftop with an amazing view of bath, one underground mineral pool with a massage jet and lazy river. And I absolutely loved the 4 different types of aromatic rooms they had!!.. Yes it is a touristy place like the other reviews had mentioned but try and aim for a weekday visit like I did and its not so bad. Heck I enjoyed myself and thought it was a nice spa regardless!!.. The entrance fee gave us 2 hours of access to 3 areas of the spa: the roof top pool, the sauna area and the lower level Minerva pool. We started on the roof, enjoying the comfortable springs and the 270 degree view of Bath including a great shot of the Abbey. We then went to the sauna floor, which had many different rooms and stations including 2 steam rooms, one sauna, a celestial relaxation room (my favorite), an ice room (literally a case of ice that we scooped with our hands and placed on our chests to cool after the steam room visits), chromatherapy showers, and hot and cold shower stations. We wandered from area to area, enjoying the different experiences. The celestial room wasn't humid but was dark with lounge chairs and a huge tv video of celestial bodies. It was incredibly relaxing. We also walked outside on the adjacent terrace and sat briefly on lounge chairs. We spent the most time in the lower Minerva pool, where we floated on noodles and visited. Such a relaxing way to start the day. 2 hrs was more than ample to enjoy each level. read more

I'm not a big spa guy but this was a fun afternoon. We had called the day before and on the way to see if they had hot stone available. They said no but we stopped by as soon as we got into town. They had spots and we booked for later in the day massages. They had a good package for entry and a massage and facial. After walking around Bath in the morning we decided we had enough and got to the spa early. They have changing rooms and lockers. We went up to the roof to enjoy the thermae spa rooftop pool. Really stunning views of Bath from there. It was crowded but not too bad. Afterwards we went down to the sauna and steam rooms. They have several different types and explored all. Then we went to the bottom floor indoor pool to lounge before our massages. I had a nice shoulder/back massage. And my first facial. I probably wouldn't get it again but it was fun and interesting. We locals may be a bit resistant to Thermae Bath Spa because of all the money ploughed into it and the time it's taken and the dramas involved. But one visit to this place is enough to restore you on every level and so...let's forget the past. I came on one of those evening specials with supper included. Very highly recommended! The meal was tasty and light, so it doesn't detract from the wonderful benefits of the detox. A dip in the rooftop pool is an absolute delight. There are various pockets in it with different actions and that's lovely...but cannot compare with watching the sun go down over the rooftops. It's an extraordinary experience. I love the steam rooms too. Each one has a different aromatherapeutic smell. There is a lovely pool downstairs also. The whole experience is wonderful. I've taken a star off because it is showing a sign or two of wear and tear with the odd foot bath not working, for example. The place is taking in so many visitors, I wonder when they get the chance to make good things that go wrong. read more

I went here as a treat with my partner this month. This was the perfect treat to relax us given that we had both been working over 60 hours per week due to xmas overtime. I was a little apprehensive as the price wasn't cheap, and was concerned that I may not get my money's worth however I could not have been more wrong. Upon arrival we were greeted by lovely reception staff. We arrived a little early as we wanted to purchase the Twilight for 2 offer which included use of all the facilities, in addition to a drink and dish from the restaurant. When I arrived I asked if there was any availability to add a treatment on for myself or the both of us. The receptionist explained that they were really full but she could negotiate and see if a therapist could give me a massage to help the tension I had in my back, even if it was only for 20-30mins. To my fortune, the therapist was able to agree to give me this extra treatment. They added the length of my massage (20mins) plus an extra 10 mins onto both my partners and my own Twilight experience time, which was great as it meant we could leave together. We were given our gowns and wristband, explained everything is good detail and guided through to the changing rooms. The spa was lovely, throughout. Even though it was a little busy, it still felt very relaxing and dreamy. It was lovely being in the roof top pool as the sky turned dark as the pool lit up in a wonderful blue colour. Each corner of the pool seemed to have a different novelty feature from jacuzzi bubbles, to spraying fountain. Downstairs pool had deck chairs and floats enabling you to make a little raft, lie on your back and totally relax. The steam rooms were lovely large pods, each containing a different aroma with a refreshing shower in the centre. After relaxing for a bit in the pools and steam rooms, I left my partner to get my much needed 20 mins express massage. I was so desperate for this massage as I had a lot of tension in my back that had not been dealt with when trying to get a massage closer to home previously. My therapist was a lovely girl named Kayleigh. She came to get me following me completing a health questionnaire. When we went into the room she sat down on the bed with me and talked through the problems I was having including my spinal issues and how the treatment would take place, right through to explaining she would softly ring a bell at the end to signify the end of treatment in a calming way- this was so reassuring. She then left the room, as I got undressed and under the towel. After knocking the door she returned and began treatment. It was obvious she was a skilled therapist. I felt all the knots in my backs being ironed out. It was so relieving, an unbelievable experience. It did not feel like 20 mins as I was totally relaxed. At the end of treatment she softly rang the bell, and said she would be leaving the room. She told me not to rush , to get up slowly and then she would return shortly. She left me a fresh robe and towel to continue the rest of my spa day which was such a lovely little surprise. I eventually got up and put my new robe on, soon after Kayleigh came back in with some filtered water to rehydrate me. She sat down and asked how I felt. She discussed my spine and recommendations going forward in addition to showing me the products she had used on me and explaining why she had used those particular ones. I couldn't believe I got such an amazing massage in just 20 minutes! After we chatted she guided me to the relaxation area, where there were loungers, water and a lovely array of herbal teas + magazines for me to sit and relax as long as I wanted. I stayed there for a bit before reuniting with my partner. We chilled together again in the downstairs pool before heading to the restaurant for out meal. The meal is what brings this review down from 5 stars to 4. We were both disappointed with the taste of the food and the service was slow, The food was bland and uninspiring. We felt glad we didn't have to pay full price for it and that it was included in our package. The style of the menu meant that if you ordered a main, free with your twilight package or not, you would need to order a side. We ordered a side of Fondant potato, thinking it would be some sort of mash but it came as a carefully formed thick disc of potato. Unfortunately when it came finally it was not cooked on the inside, so we asked for it to be sent back and taken off our bill. The gravy that came with my partners main was also extremely thick..more like a paste. Was a disappointed considering we were looking forward to finishing our trip with this meal. Nevertheless, the staff remained polite. We had a great day and would definitely visit again. Probably would book in advance to enjoy the facilities and so the both of us could have some relaxing treatments. We would probably skip the food and eat somewhere else in Bath. The Thermae Spa has had a lot of publicity over the cost and time it has taken to produce and I must say the end result doesn't quite live up to the hype. Saying that though, it is a lovely, relaxing experience and a real treat. The plus points are obviously the gorgeous spa baths and also the restaurant which is lovely (but over priced) and the treatments (lovely but overpriced.) and hence the theme. It's all lovely but not quite worth the money you pay for a couple of hours. That is the biggest negative, as well as the strange layout as the changing rooms are on a totally different floor from all the other attractions you have to keep going up and down to get things if you forget them. Also, you have to pay to hire a robe and things like that should really come with the entrance fee. It is a great experience and I would recommend it but as a real treat not a weekly pampering session!! read more

We were taking a day trip to Bath and figured what better way to end if then to go to a Spa. We went on a Saturday night and waited 30 minutes to get in. The 2 hour package included a towel,robe, and slippers for 35 pounds. I thought the price was a little steep for what you got once inside. Essentially there is 3 areas to use. An outdoor pool that isn't that hot, a steam room, and an indoor pool. I definitely wasn't disappointed that we went however I was a bit underwhelmed by the whole place. read more

Incredibly difficult staff to deal with. Planning a group outing here was a nightmare. Multiple emails and calls comprising unhelpful exchanges where they mainly expressed they couldn't do anything with a group booking. Eventually, I found a loophole that made me able to make a reservation for the Hen do. Having had one member tell me my card would be held for this large group reservation and not charged, it was then charged and when I called back to ask- the manager accused me of lying because "they never do that". Instead of admitting that one of their staff had miscommunicated, she told me I was in the wrong. They were not able to help me beyond just canceling my reservation. I'm honestly shocked at how rude they are and I would not recommend anyone else trying to make this a group outing. read more

THis is definaltley worth the visit but it wasnt the realxing experience I was expecting. The baths get very busy and you are bustled in and moved around the various areas like cattle. All this in your swimming costume, not very good if you are body conscious! The steam rooms and baths were lovely and I did feel fresh and revitalised afterwards but it would have been nicer it it wasnt so busy. The restaurant served lovely healthy food but it was not so healthy and your purse! The foot jet spa things were useless and didnt seem to work properly. But I was glad I went. read more

After receiving a voucher for the Twilight package I deiced to go last month. I went with my Mother and my sister, and we all really enjoyed it. We had 3hr in the Spa this also included a meal in the Cafe. The meal was beautiful, but we did have to wait a while for a meal to arrive. The rooftop pool was great, even though it was raining, has nice view of the rooftop of Bath and looked great at sunset. The sauna was amazing, each one had a different scent in it. Although the Spa is quite pricey, I would recommend a visit for both residents of Bath and tourists. read more

2nd review: Dramatic increase in price around 30% now reduces this to 'Clip Joint' status for what is in effect a 'Very Nice Smelly Bath & Shower' certainly visit once but don't bother the second time. Tip 1; Recommended to visit on a weekday NON BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND! The pools are small they can accommodate up to 25 30 max people otherwise it gets crowded and you cannot move tip 2; to lowers costs bring your own robes and slippers - otherwise, roof top pool was a fun experience definitely a highlight waters are not as hot as expected I would definitely go back makes a great gift for someone as Bath in general is a lovely place to visit read more

What a great evening I had at Therme Spa. I got there at 5 and left after 9PM feeling all mellow and can still smell the great aromatherapy scents from their amazing steam rooms. My favorite parts were most of it. The only part that I didn't completely love was the downstairs indoor pool. It's a nice pool, but there were a lot of people in it, many couples who seemed to need to get a room. There is a nice current in the water that takes you around the pool in circles and the water itself is quite nice. Beyond nice. After that I was on my way to the rooftop pool when I realized I was hungry. So I went to the cafe. So nice to just go there in my bathrobe. They had beetroot soup and it was absolutely soothing and delicious and plentiful. The price was good as well. After that I spent at least an hour in the rooftop pool at twilight. What a great experience that was. You can see one solo beautiful church spire and the 4-spired other church from there as well as tops of buildings around the city. The water is like a warm bathrub and nicely juxtaposed with the night air. The last stop along my tour there was the steam rooms. They were the best I've ever experienced. There are four, each with a different blend of aromatherapy. One was better than the next. In between each I went under a large rain shower with perfect temperature coolish but nowhere near cold water. My lungs have never felt this good. They have an excellent system whereby you use some sort of electronic wrist band that clocks your expenditures such as the cafe, and also serves as a key to open and close your locker. A nice touch that eliminates the need to carry money. Overall I would give it a 10. I would return to Bath largely to go there again. It's a little bit spendy, but the value is very good. read more

It looks like we may have gotten lucky here judging from all the poor reviews? Went here the other night with my boyfriend's 2 sisters and his mother and we had a really nice time. We didn't get there til about 7 and got the 2 hours pools pass to go between the indoor and outdoor thermal baths and the steam room. Our main gripe was that the treatments stop being done at 6 pm as we would have liked to get massages here before dipping in the pools, but oh well, maybe next time. Others have mentioned the water not being too warm and I definitely don't feel that was the case on the lower floor pool, We all found that to be super relaxing. The outdoor roof top bath I agree, could be a bit warmer but the scenery definitely makes up for that to me. To overlook the amazing Roman bath stone buildings while relaxing in a thermal natural spa to me is heaven, especially in the cool night air. The several steam rooms also were very enjoyable especially with the different scents. I think maybe because we came on a weeknight, later in the evening our experience may have been more enjoyable than others. There aren't many, if any tourists at that time, it's peaceful and quiet, and the showers/locker rooms are clear of people. Also, we all brought bags with our own towels and robes which made the experience a little better as well. I don't know if it's something I would do all the time but definitely something I would do again in the future, but maybe with a treatment to see how the spa itself is. read more

I only did the thermal baths, but loved them. Outdoor rooftop bath is an experience! You could be back in roman or georgian times, as the locals hang out here, bobbing up and down on their blue floats catching up with their friends, outside on the rooftop pool in the rain. A surreal experience. Great views of Bath hills and skyline. Go down to the basement for the Mineral bath, and float around on your blue floats in the jet streams all round the pool in one big procession of people of all ages, giggling. Expensive if you get all the trimmings - bath robe, slippers, towel etc (about £35) but worth it for a tourist afternoon and feeling like a kid again. read more

The Thermae Bath Spa is highly recommended for an afternoon or a few hours of bliss. You can book for 4 hours for £30 and it is well worth the money. They have a lovely outdoor rooftop heated pool and you get a brilliant view all across Bath. There are several steam rooms (all having a different aroma), saunas as well as jacuzzis and a swimming pool. The spa has good changing facilities and is generally very clean and modern. Towels and robes are provided at a small charge. You can pre-book your visit and I would definitely recommend this, particularly for groups, as it can get very busy with tourists and it allows you to queue jump. You can also have additional treatments for an extra charge although if you are only there for a few hours this isn't really necessary as there is plenty to keep you occupied. The restaurant serves good food but is a little pricey - the main benefit of the restaurant is that you can charge everything to your account and pay when you leave to save you having to carry cash around. Thermae bath Spa is highly recommended for an afternoon of relaxation and pampering. read more

This is a lovely modern day spa that has been long in the waiting, it gives good reason to the name of bath. It is very modern and well designed and although the prices are quite expensive for some of the activities and treatments it gives a very nice break and a good day out. My boyfriend and I bought our tickets online before leaving for the UK. We were informed on their website that the steam rooms were going to be closed but still thought it would be worth it. It definitely wasn't... We were bored after less than an hour of being there. Not only that, we were both actually cold in the pool on the rooftop, as the water was not warm enough to warm our bodies and all of our body heat was escaping through our wet hair. As well, I started to get a very noticeable headache from the extremely present chlorine smell (chlorine does not normally affect me but the intense smell was starting to make me feel unwell). To finish, the only thing they offer as compensation for the steam rooms being closed is a voucher to come back, which is good until November 2017. Which is of course RIDICULOUS considering at least half of the people who go to their spa are tourists and won't be coming back within a year! So, they make you pay the full price (which is very expensive!) and make you believe they are giving you compensation... when you can be sure at least half of the people won't be able to actually benefit from it. We did know the steam rooms would be closed, to be fair, but we thought it would still be worth it. However, after reading other people's comments, we realized most people found this spa worth it specifically because of the steam rooms. Anyway, we do not recommend spending your money on this place, unfortunately... (We really did want to enjoy ourselves, after all.) read more
