Julie is not only INSANELY gorgeous, INSANELY talented, but she's an INSANELY kick-ass cool chick!!…read more I've been a big fan of hers for awhile now, and have heard nothing but incredible things from everyone. Her reputation is stellar! Ask anyone. No really, go ask! I finally had a reason to go get all jazzed up, and my only regret is that I didn't go sooner.... Julie did a full face of makeup, including contour and lashes. She knew the exact look I was going for...a deeper, darker slightly smokey eye and a pale lip. A nice warm fall look that made my green eyes pop. She made me feel so so sooooo beautiful! My skin was flawless and so soft!! My husband truly melted. I was so excited to see him, I felt like it was our wedding day all over again! It was pure joy. I told him I never felt prettier. It pained me to wash her work off. In fact, shhhhh....I left my eye makeup on for another day. Julie told me every product she used, gave me all sorts of insider tips: for makeup, skin, and more! She's seriously an expert on all things to make you feel and look your absolute best! No questions were off limits! She's totally rad & easy to talk to, and I loved gabbing about friends we have in common. Julie secures lashes using her own special technique, and while these types normally don't last too long in general, because of her skills, I was able to kept them on for almost a week, my entire anniversary trip! Wow!! Thank you, Julie! Julie does derma-planing and peels also! I will most certainly be making an appointment for that now that it's almost a good time to hibernate, although she said there's no downtime, rather it's just best if you're out of the direct sun. Julie hosts adorable kiddie virtual makeup classes and hosts parties! What a fun idea and a great way for your little girl to celebrate from afar during these crazy times! Julie will hands down be my go-to girl for almost everything now! She's referred me to many other specialists and gave me her links for discounts! She's seriously the best! During Covid she is seeing clients at remote locations and it couldn't have been easier to schedule. She of course wears a mask and makes sure you're keeping healthy and safe beforehand. Philly ladies, RUN to Julie!!!

I would highly recommend working with Aki for your wedding!…read more Aki did hair and make-up for me, my bridesmaids, my mom, and my mother-in-law for my wedding in May 2026. She did an amazing job! Throughout the whole process, she was kind, professional, and organized. She very responsive to email and text communications. She was able to accommodate last minute changes to schedule (due to needing to be ready 2 hours earlier than originally anticipated) and number of people. I usually don't wear much make-up and wanted more of a natural look. She more than delivered on that and I felt beautiful and confident on my wedding day. Would highly recommend!

It looked amazing and natural that one of my bridesmaids wanted to do the same look for her own wedding. I can't recommend Aki enough. I had Celia, but I would bet that they are all very capable there. 4) I have a spinal injury and they made me as comfortable as possible at all times without being overly solicitous. It's a physically large salon that has apparently been around a long time. They clearly deserve their success. I would highly recommend it.

Warning -- Extremely Unreliable Makeup Artist…read more I do not recommend Subrina Mustafa. She broke our contract and went silent the night before our large Indian family wedding on August 30th., in King of Prussia, PA. I texted her the night before with my hotel room number, and she never replied. Trusting she'd be professional, I waited until 5:00 AM the next morning (I had to be ready at 7 AM) -- she never showed. I sent five texts and made multiple calls on August 30 and again on September 2, with no response. She finally replied on September 11 with an unprofessional excuse, claiming her assistant didn't save the date, even though she had personally confirmed our appointment on June 13 and accepted two Venmo payments. Anyone who claims to be "highly professional" should also provide accurate invoices and contracts, yet I had to ask her twice to fix errors in both before the event. I had to request my own refund, which shows poor professionalism and bad faith. Do not risk your event -- book someone reliable.

Lame excuses all the way through. Sent her assistant who probably couldn't hold a door open let alone do makeup. Rushed everyone's makeup after 5pm. More of a party makeup than bridal. All of them smelt of sweat and didn't have the right tools for the job. Her brushes were already used and dirty - health hazard. Photoshoot late, event schedule had to be rescheduled - thankfully the venue staff accommodated. But here's the worst of it all - she argued for me to pay the balance in the middle of us doing the event entrance! I asked her to wait just a few minutes and she started shouting insults. Then the police had to come and a guest ended up paying. Embarrassing and unprofessional. Everyone should know she's a total fraud and gets verbal diarrhea if she doesn't get her way. After trying another high-rated salon in Philly and having a hairdresser try and fail to thin out my very thick hair for two hours, I did some research and came across Salon JKU. Even though they don't don't have an online booking platform, it was fairly easy to make an email inquiry, then book a time within the week over the phone. I booked with Amelia, and was really glad I did. She asked a lot of good questions about what I was looking for, then talked me through what she was going for. I get my hair cut every 6 months, so I was really just looking for someone to take out weight and give my hair some shape. Amelia gave me a wonderful short haircut with a lot of movement and texture. Her cut was meticulous and she took out an incredible amount of weight, yet maintained volume and body. After our discussions about my typical haircare routine, she gave me a cut that looks good without any styling. I really appreciated that, because sometimes the cut looks amazing after it's all blown out, but it's not a look that I can ever recreate at home. A few days after my appointment, someone asked me how I styled my hair, and I told them I didn't style it at all. They couldn't believe it because it visually had so much volume! The pricing is higher than other places that I have been in Philly (I paid $100 + tip), but in my opinion, it was totally worth it for one of the best haircuts I've received.

So I went on the phila queens Facebook group and posted for Asian hair stylist recommendations for both cut and color and someone kindly recommended salon JKU to me and after looking at their Instagram and their stylist personal Instagram's I decided that this was the best salon for Asian hair given a lot of the stylist are of Asian descent. I got a full head balayage done by Memmi (@coloristmemmi) and haircut done by Chris Sotos. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with the results. PLEASE note this does not mean the salon is specialized in Asian hair only. I was the only Asian client in the salon yesterday. You definitely don't HAVE to be Asian to come here lol I just really really wanted my hair done by someone of Asian descent since I've never tried that before. Anyway, Memmi did such a good job and was so pleasant to talk to while she was doing my hair she really is an interesting person with such a cool backstory. Same goes for Chris, who I had many things in common with. I cannot wait to return to the salon for my next cut and or color. PLEASE take the time to see the huge transformation my hair underwent in the photos attached to this review. And also please check out their Instagram @salonjku because you will instantly want to go there too, like me. I first heard about her through Anju (of AnjuThreads), who was hosting Veronica at her threading salon as one of her summer pop-up events. I was celebrating my birthday the week before the event, but figured that if Anju liked her, I would to. AND I LIKE HER! She came to my apartment and got me ready for my birthday with a gorgeous purple smoky eye.
