By that I mean, it was effortless. So here's the story. I rang The Alteration Rooms late Wednesday to see if they did alterations on men's suits. As I had just splashed out a good bit of dosh on a new suit I wanted to make sure they were proper tailors and not the type that just fix buttons and zippers. Yes, they are proper tailors. I spoke to Clare, one of the owners, late Wednesday and mentioned I needed a suit fitted for a wedding Saturday evening. She said that was a pretty short time frame so I better get in as quickly as possible. I knew I was cutting it close, pardon the pun, but I can be a bit last minute with these sorts of things. 'Right' I said; I'll be in Thursday morning when you open at 9:30am! Then Clare said her husband Gerry is usually in at 8am before they open so feel free to come in earlier if that suited...it did suit. So there I was at 8am Thursday morning and so was Gerry. He took me right in and wasted no time getting my measurements and pinning up my suit. I was out the door 15 minutes later and on my way to work. Absolutely amazing customer service! But it didn't end there. It was later that afternoon when I realized I had made a mistake. The wedding was NOT Saturday night; it was actually Friday night!!! Yikes! So I called Gerry in a panic and asked if the suit could be ready a day earlier. Cool as a cucumber, Gerry said; 'no worries, we'll get it done for you' and I arranged to pick it up Friday at 4pm. By noon on the Friday I received a text saying my suit was ready! Fantastic! They delivered on their promise and delivered early! To make a long story short (another tailoring pun), The alterations were quality and the suit was a perfect fit. They even didn't cut off the extra fabric length, it was sewn up as part of the hem so the length could be taken back down if needed, the proper way, no shortcuts taken (my last pun...I promise). I can't say enough about the great customer service and quality service I received at The Alteration Rooms in Shankill. The work was high quality and professional and the customer service was effortless. This is my new go to tailors! I have to give 5 stars! Phenomenal!

There's a touch of elegance to the shop layout and decor that reflects the owner's design sensibility, split into a waiting area at the front and back room behind with a fitting room and work space. Kate's clear flair for design is showcased in her range of fabric and leather mix handbags on display, and she has plenty more that aren't on display - they offer good value for a designer good at around 50-60 euros and would make a lovely gift. Though specialising in dress-making and alterations, Kate kindly took on a curtain alteration job for me, transforming a pair of Ikea cotton velvet tab-top curtains into a finished pair of lined curtains with a hidden tab top. She did a fantastic job for a reasonable price. Given Ikea's amazing value (65 euros for nearly six metres of decent quality cotton velvet fabric), this was a very budget-friendly way of creating a striking set of curtains. She's currently on her second slightly more complicated job and I'll report back later on that. I wish her all the best of luck with her new venture - she clearly has real flair and talent and plenty of experience so no doubt it will flourish.

When i brought it into the zip yard and lovely lady helped me out straight away. She told me it would take 2 weeks, (which i expected seeing the beading) but she listened to all my requests and was very helpful. I had to come back one week later for a fitting and i was so happy with the train of the dress. She altered the 5 layers (this sounds like an awful tacky dress!haha) perfectly and understood exactly how i wanted the train. I was very pleased with all the help i was given after i was sent away from two other alteration places prior. It was such a relief when it was finished and even though it wasnt cheap, the finish products looked really well. I would recommend this place when looking for a job done right. This was in 2011.

brought my sons communion suit to be altered a little over a week ago , taken up and taken in ,…read moretold it would take a week no problem I told her I wouldn't be able to collect it until the saturday of that week so they had a couple of extra days , charged €95 euro then rang to pay it and was tod 135 that I had two jackets in the bag which wasn't true , ended up geting charged the €95 , went today to collect it which is the day I said I would. It wasn't ready they were only starting the suit when I walked into the shop was told to come back in an hour. Really shocking service and wouldnt use again.
