I cannot get ENOUGH of this dance studio. Women owned, local, wide variety, welcoming, inclusive,…read moreexciting. I found them because I asked a friend who loves dance where the best place was for beginner level hip hop and then grabbed an unlimited membership during a deal. Best choice I've made for my health in 2019. Straightline is a great place to meet new friends, and I do exactly that almost every single time I attend a class. Every class I take is challenging but modifiable. The variety is great. Even though I came for hip hop, I love 305 Fitness (think cardio clubbing), yoga, piloxing (pilates and boxing!!!!!), pilates and barre, YOU NAME IT. The app to sign up the classes is super easy to navigate and gives you an option to add the appointment to your calendar when you sign up. Love that. The studio is also very active on social media and responds to any questions in a timely manner. I am here at least 3 times a week and tell anyone I can how great it is. Join their email list to be in the know for their events and special offerings - worth it even without a 'deal!' This community gives me something to look forward to throughout the day when normally in the winter I'd stay home, holed up in the dark. I'm not saying Straightline is curing my seasonal depression (hello Minnesota winter) but it certainly helps!! The two things that I'd change: the bathrooms are downstairs and there's nowhere to shower after a sweaty class. Literally the only two downfalls of this studio. If you're still reading this review, CHECK THEM OUT! I can't recommend Straightline Dance Fitness enough.

I do both virtual and in person classes and the instructors are so good at what they do that it makes it really easy to follow along. I have a regular routine with the barre and pilates classes, but also love all of their dance cardio classes. It's a welcoming and inclusive place, so don't be shy to try out a class here!

Specialized classes seemed fun, but I was always nervous I'd be the slowest and weakest, and not be able to catch up. I joined orangetheory about a year ago, and I've absolutely loved going 4 times a month! It allows you to customize your workout to your abilities and pace, and I never feel I'm behind or being judged. In fact - Ive seen a HUGE improvement on my fitness overall! I can run longer, lift heavier and be more confident in the gym. The uptown location is my favorite, with friendly desk staff + fun and challenging coaches. Neesh is my favorite coach, but all coaches are welcoming and helpful. If you're a little more shy like me, you also don't need to have an OTF tracker (showing your progress on a big screen) - I just use my Fitbit and I've never been shamed or pressured into buying a tracker! Overall, recommend orangetheory - especially at the Uptown location!

They don't have any monitors on the tread or the rowers. I had been under the impression that the treads should all be updated in all studios. It makes it harder to pay attention to where you are at since you need to look up at the top screens to see your zone, which in some instances is right ontop of you. The staff is really hit or miss. There are some that are great, and some that seem passive. They have parking in the back, which is nice, but it does fill up. The lot is partially shared with Red Cow.

It was easy to schedule, and the front desk person was friendly while giving me a tour. Isometric classes are about 40 minutes, but the cardio classes (yes, there are bikes and rowers IN the sauna pods) are only 15 minutes. The website says that is because they are basically twice as effective a room-temperature class, so you can do one sauna class in half the usual time. I did an isometric class, so I can't speak to the cardio experience, but I have never sweat more, not even in hot yoga. The provided mat and towel did their job, though, and it wasn't slippery at all. You reserve a time in a particular pod, and pick a specific pre-recorded class. The iso classes seemed to be one-person-per-pod as I walked by, but the cardio pods each had 3 bikes or 3 rowers in there, so you could be with other people. I could definitely feel my muscles burning, even though the exercises were slow and with minimal weight. I followed the instructions and drank a ton of water the rest of the day, but I did feel very good afterwards. Energized yet calm at the same time. Maybe I really did sweat out all of the negative vibes for the day (*shrugs*). I was happy to see a traditional free weights area with rack, so you could do extra exercises if you wanted to. The gym is 24 hours (not staffed the whole time, but members have access), which is definitely a nice perk, and the price is really reasonable (only $60/month for a basic membership). There are gyms with fewer amenities that charge that much, and this place was super nice. I would definitely go again and try a different workout, and would even consider this as a primary gym membership option.

I'm updating my review, and upgrading to five stars, in light of my six months as a very active -…read moreand very satisfied - member. This is a small fitness center which specializes in sauna workouts. Most of the space in this gym consists of actual saunas (although the weight-training area is quite well-appointed). There are two types of workout sessions that can go on in the saunas: isometric workouts like yoga and Pilates ("Hot Yoga", "Hot Warrior", etc.), and cardio workouts like exercise bike routines and rowing machine routines ("Hot Cycle", "Hot Thunder", etc.). Each sauna has a monitor with a virtual fitness instructor coaching you through a specific, well thought out session. Because these workout sessions are in for-real-hot saunas, they are INTENSE. But also for that reason, they are shorter than a normal comparable workout. You get more workout in less time, and the heat negates the need for extended pre-workout stretches. This is literally the only gym membership that has ever worked for me. I have visibly lost weight and my overall health and energy level have improved dramatically. Every other time I've tried a workout regime, it was always tempting to find excuses not to do it. But I am always excited for my Hotworx sessions. I look forward to my scheduled sessions and I always feel energized afterward. (Maybe not RIGHT afterward because at the end of the session I am an absolute mess... but that's how I know I'm doing it right!) These workouts are challenging, every time, but they are just doable enough that I know I'll be able to get through it. And there are modifications you can make to fit your abilities for each program, so if it seems impossible, make an adjustment that works for you. I have more details in my original review, and also I've left several tips in that section of the app. But after six months and probably about a hundred sessions, I can attest that Hotworx delivers on its promise, and I am a healthier and happier person than I was six months ago.
