Started and initially would have given 5 stars; had not done yoga in over 20yrs and was enjoying 4-6days per wk. Decided to do the instructor training after 3months of starting yoga b/c I had been enjoying so much and wanted to learn more. Then another student was very aggressive and I felt like there was a possibility where she was going to ?? .. I was walking away and 2x she repeated "don't walk away from me" bc I did not like the noise of the air purifier fan (need to maintain/clean I never saw anything that documented it was cleaned) and it was very loud causing my migraines to rebound-disability from TBI. Other students in regular yoga classes had turned off the fan so I know it was not just me that was bothered by the noise. I canceled instructor training bc I was concerned about the other student and if she was going to continue to be aggressive/dangerous. Might have been able to manage her aggression but the noise from not maintained air purifier causing worse headaches if I had to be there for 8 hour could not do. No help from the yoga studio staff- had meeting but the student and her representative person were on chairs. I walked in and no other chairs available so I sat on floor. Owner of studio (supposed to be my representative for meeting) went and found herself a chair, (funny) did not offer me one so I was the only one on the floor for a meeting where a co-student had been aggressive against me. Weird the person that had been attacked is on the floor with 3 other people above them---- go figure then I get charged $300 b/c you failed me. If anyone actualy reads this do not go to this yoga studio; my opion they have no care for who you are. Guess nothing else needs to be said. They never mentioned on-line (which another student was doing) or keeping the aggressive student away. DO NOT DO INSTRUCTOR TRAINING Lost $300 and YOGA b/c this place was horrible read more

Currently enrolled in the Yoga Teacher Training program. Newer to this studio and went in without any expectations. What I have come to discover in an amazing small community of Yogis. Yoga Connection is a gift for our Tucson community; offers scholarships, work study, free classes, and helps with our veterans - GI Bill. The only non-profit Yoga association for Southern Arizona founded by Swami Maha-tarananda (Priscilla Potter). She was initiated from a fine lineage of Kriya Yoga Masters; her Yoga experience spans fifty years. Shes a no-nonsense kind of Teacher / Guru; I admire this quality because constructive criticism is necessary for growth. She also radiates a loving energy for the community at large. I am truly impressed by all the consideration, efforts, and dedication of teachers *past and present* that have been involved with developing this teacher training program. Included in this was access to 20 classes at the studio and additional shadowing with several of the teachers after completion of 200 hr YTT. I definitely feel I will be well prepared to teach after completing this course. Even if you're not looking to become a teacher; this training may assist you in deepening your Yoga practice tremendously. read more

Well, I've finally gotten off my rear and started working out at a gym several times a week at the ungodly hour of butt-crack of dawn. But I felt like I needed something to balance out the cardio and weights and have a few friends who really like yoga so...... Having never done yoga I was half expecting people in dreads that don't wear deodorant but DO wear Birkenstocks. Surprise! The studio was full of people just like me that want a little balance and calmness in their lives. A & I signed up online at the drop in rate for new students joining the beginning yoga class. Super simple online registration, which I really liked. We were greeted warmly when we entered the studio and then walked out the front door and in to the next suite which houses the smaller of the two studios. We met our instructor who explained a few things to us and showed us where to get mats, bolsters and blankets. I really have nothing to compare the yoga experience or teacher to since this was my first time at ANY yoga studio but I liked it! The stretching felt good and modified poses were shown to everyone in case we were unable to do the full pose. The class lasted a little over an hour and was certainly worth the money. I love this location as well since it's close to work and I can easily make a 5:30pm class. We'll be back for sure.....even if the Birkenstock people are there. LOL read more

I do like the focus on relaxation and centering oneself (as opposed to giggling and making things difficult just to get up a sweat). I have had great warmups and cooldowns in all the classes I took and I left feeling rejuvenated and taller than when I went in. The studio is quiet and peaceful, despite being on a noisy corner. In three classes' time, I've had one instructor who I really like and one who I'm not wild about. My only complaint is the fact that this studio brings in "student instructors" who instruct a part of the class as they prepare to become instructors. Neither of the ones who have instructed in my classes have been even remotely good... yes, I know it takes practice to become a yogi, but when I pay for a class and am comfortable with its flow, it's frustrating to have the class interrupted midway by someone who disregards or doesn't understand the real instructor's mission and who clearly has his/her own agenda in mind over that of the class or of the instructor. Neither of the real instructors seemed particularly thrilled to have a student sitting like a bump on a log, watching the rest of the class while they waited their turn. Meh. My suggestion: offer classes instructed by a pair (teacher and student) for a lower rate. Or move the guest instruction to one specific day and post that information in the class schedule. Were I to sign up for one of those, I would know what I was getting myself into and would be much less resistant to the idea or the mid-class change in flow. read more

I attempted yoga at a few other studios in town and quickly came to the conclusion that perhaps private lessons suit me better. After doing some research, my fiancé and I picked YC for their emphasis on restorative yoga as well as the option to have private classes. After our first lesson with Tracy, which we enjoyed very much, we continued with Tracy for the duration of our package. So while this review is for the private lesson experience, I can say that the studio is clean and well appointed. YC is a nonprofit studio and funds go towards assisting instructors get their certifications as well as keeping the studio in business. Additionally, they host workshops ranging from posture and balance to stress relief. The location is a bit of a commute for me, but I'd definitely come back for more classes with Tracy and I plan on checking out a workshop or two in the coming months. read more

I've been practicing yoga at this studio off and on for a couple years. I used to be RYT, but I had spent about 5 years without a teacher or studio, and had really moved away from my practice. Taking an introductory class at Yoga Connection with a friend who had no yoga experience was a nice way for me to get back on the mat. They've recently moved from their older (cozy/cramped) location to a big, beautiful studio less than a mile from my new house. It really is a lovely space with lots of light, cheerful colors, and 2 rooms, plus the bookstore, and, it seems, a lot of private, authorized personnel only space in the back. Probably the only downside to the space is that the walls are thin, and pretty often you can hear the instructor's voice from the other studio, or employees talking in the back of the building. In the past, at the old space, I had a number of extremely negative experiences with one particular instructor, but this person does not appear to be teaching on a regular basis anymore. There are quite a few instructors I really like. My favorites are Ashley, Pep, and Colleen. Priscilla, the owner, is also lovely. The style favored at Yoga Connection is perhaps a bit different from what many experienced yogis and yoginis might expect. Almost every class *begins* in shivasana. Particularly in the "Beginning/Continuing" classes you can expect to spend a LOT of time lying on your back. This used to bug me a lot, but now that I do Crossfit 3 days a week, I don't mind a more relaxing yoga class. The more advanced classes usually start in shivasana, too, but they can be really rigorous once you stand up! They offer "Continuing" classes, teacher training, lots of special workshops, New Age type classes (chakras, astrology), mudras, Pilates, back care, gentle yoga, chanting/mantras and meditation, and so on. There's a full schedule, updated every month, and you can almost always find a class that's right for you. I do wish they offered more classes on the weekend, but I guess I'm in the minority there. This is basically the only yoga studio in this part of town. It's not 100% the style I would choose if I could do any kind of yoga, but it works. My only other criticism of Yoga Connection is that the studio is almost always too cold. I believe yoga (and all exercise) should be done in a warmer environment--this is best for your muscles--but they always have the AC cranked. The second the temperature moves up to where I'd like it, the instructor always turns it down. So usually I wear multiple layers of clothes. Well, I'm probably in the minority here, too. A lot of the instructors and students seem to be older women, so they probably like the cold. Yoga Connection is an excellent place for people looking for a gentle style of yoga. It seems particularly welcoming to older folks and is a good introduction for people who have never done yoga and want to ease into their practice. read more

The Yoga Connection has been taunting me from my list of "reviews in the queue" for a few weeks now. What's the holdup? I didn't feel right about reviewing a yoga studio before I'd taken a class there. The Yoga Connection came highly recommended and specializes in my favorite flavor: Hatha yoga. The problem is, every time I think about getting in my car and driving 25 minutes across town for a yoga class, I ... don't. Instead I practice at home and I've been scouting options on the far east side, closer to where I live. However! I went ahead with the review because I can speak glowingly about some of the workshops I've taken here. My husband and I dropped in for "Intro to Meditation" (one of The Yoga Connection's by-donation workshops) one Sunday morning. We would have been satisfied with a gentle jump start. What we got was ... well, a whole new level of inspiration! We learned half a dozen new mudras and practiced different ways to trick our babbling minds into shutting up. The instructor was a gentle, caring spirit who was involved and sincerely trying to help rather than teach a rote class. Later I saw a two-hour workshop for people with osteoporosis in the Yoga Connection online newsletter. My mom has it (which means I am at risk for getting it someday). She's been struggling with the whats and hows, so I signed us up. The instructor was named "Pep," who has just the right amount of pep for yoga, if you ask me. She also has osteopena (the precursor of osteoporosis), so I trusted that she knew where-of she spoke. In the beautiful studio, surrounded by plenty of props (bricks, straps, chairs and blankets), Pep and her assistant guided our class of about a dozen women through the correct poses at slow, but steady pace with time for plenty of personal correction. I was most impressed! And mom? She's a new yoga fan. She bought a book there after class and has since been practicing on her own (newly purchased) mat at home. For me the workshops are the way to go! I eagerly read through each monthly newsletter. As I said, I will probably end up practicing closer to my home, but I know I'll be back to The Yoga Connection for more workshops. read more

Below are reviews of two separate classes I took at this studio. 1. Teacher: Vanessa Johnson Style: Hatha Yoga Today, I was coming to take a hatha class labeled as "continuing yoga". I took this as someone beyond the beginning level. I like the use of the word continuing, because it is ultimately for us to decide where we are at physically and mentally. The labels "beginning", "intermediate" and "advanced" seem a little divisive. I jumped in a few minutes late, something I don't like to do but it took a little longer for me to get there than I anticipated. In any event, I jumped right into the pose after a nod and a smile from the teacher. There was an additional "teacher in training" type person up at the front showing modified poses which was really nice for anyone needing modifications. She did an excellent job explaining how to get into the poses and didn't make me feel pressured to do anything that might injure me. The class was at a slow pace. I believe I get more from slower moving classes at least as far as paying attention and being really aware of the body. Vanessa was relaxed, grounded and focused. She gave me a strong sense of her command of yoga and her ability to take us through a class. Her confidence really shined through the words and phrases she use. She seemed completely comfortable in her role as teacher and her hand gestures and words conveyed this to me. She also seemed experienced and wise, which was a combination of her age and the way she carried herself. There are just some teachers out there who you know live the life of a yogi in the modern world and I perceive her as one of them. She seemed willing and able to deal with students of varying levels and was able to quickly assess what was going on in the room. At one point I must have looked pained and she looked in my direction and said don't push too hard, just relax into it. She didn't single me out, but the words spoke to me. It's good to know that someone notices and is able to help you notice when there is difficulty. She came across as relaxed and joyful and willing to work hard. She kept me attempting the more difficult variations and yet knowing when to not push too hard. I looked around the room at some point and everyone was doing their best and seemed intently focused on the task at hand. We closed with a nice cool down and relaxation pose. 2. Teacher: Ramsie Mather Style: Restorative Yoga The older I get the more I gravitate towards Yin and Restorative type yoga classes. I count on these classes to bring calm and relaxation to my life. After a good restorative class I feel like I've had a massage and that I am able to face anything with calm and ease. I like the Yoga Connection, it seems more like yoga for real people. There are people of all shapes and sizes, races and ages. It isn't uncommon to see someone in their 60s or 70s enjoying a class. They've created this no pressure environment that is really appealing. It is no surprise that Ramsie teaches a class at Yoga Connection, because she exuded patience and calm. She took on the role of a competent guide who had planned the class well. She had mats and props set out in the room so all we had to do is find a place and settle in. We started in a seated position while she asked if anyone had taken a restorative class or any yoga class. She explained that it was about gentle flexibility and complete relaxation. She guided us into a supported savasana and let us know that if we were more experienced we could handle this however we wanted. This was great because I really needed to lay across a long bolster with my head hanging off the end. She was there at a moments notice to provide props and did it with ease. I needed some blocks under my knees in the diamond position and she was there to do it for me. She was there to serve us and I felt like whatever I needed she would be able to provide. She held the energy as guide and servant throughout the entire class and was focused on our needs. She played neutral but interesting music and made suggestions as needed. I had the feeling that I could either ask for a lot of assistance or none at all and it would be okay. I would definitely return to this class. read more

I went in yesterday for the back care yoga class. It was wonderful and just what I needed after a long drive from San Diego. The instructor was really nice and helped a lot. My back feels so much better today! Can't wait to go back! Oh and they have great prices! $7 for a new student first class and they don't charge for mats and other accessories. I love the yoga connection, and if you're in the market for a gentler yoga practice, you will too. Most classes I've taken are with Miranda and Ashley, but David is also terrific. These instructors know how to direct students in a way that challenges them, without pushing them to hurt themselves. The classes are all Hatha style, don't expect a vigorous workout. Classes are little pricier here ($12 for most classes, but some are as low as $7). I recommend Yoga Connection for beginners, or individuals who are looking for a relaxing practice. Added perk, La Mesa Tortillas next door has yummy post-practice food. read more

Being in Tucson for just a day I did a drop-in Sunday Beginning Continued class at Yoga Connection and stumbled into one of the best, most thoughtful practices of my life! I've been practicing for more than 15 years on and off, and just getting back into "yoga shape" after a shoulder injury and broken wrist, and this class and studio were of the highest caliber. I highly recommend giving this studio a try, I wish it was in my neighborhood!! read more

This business has moved to the NE corner of Pima and Alvernon. I've been going for a couple of months and I really like this place. The Saturday classes are pretty full so get there early. They also feature cheaper classes first thing in the morning and mid-day. My favorite instructors of the three I had are Eva and Pricilla. Their cues are easy to follow. Great mindfulness meditation at the beginning and end of the sessions. read more

This is an excellent studio in Tucson. I like the variety of classes offered at different levels, different abilities, and for different interests. The classes range from intermediate, which is more advanced, to gentle, restorative, and chair yoga. It is a non-profit studio with affordable classes and excellent instructors. The first class I took the instructor saw that I was new to the studio, introduced herself, and asked if I had any health concerns she needed to know about. They emphasize safety in all of their classes. The facilities are nice, there are plenty of props, and it has to be one of the least pretentious yoga studios in the country. It is very easy to feel at home. You can also learn more about yoga tradition and philosophy with a small store with books, DVDs, and more. This a great place for your practice. read more

I have been going to Yoga Connection off and on for many years, with the "off" being just because I can't always summon the energy to drive 25 minutes to their lovely studio. This is the only yoga studio I have found in Tucson that focuses on what I consider the total practice of yoga rather than yoga as one more gym feat. In fact, at another popular studio in town, I was once told "No pain, no gain," which to me is the antithesis of the yoga spirit. I go to Colleen's class almost every Sunday, and she is an amazing, low-key almost-spiritual guide through the practice. I am a caregiver to a spouse with Parkinson's, and her class never fails to uplift me. My only wish would be that they use more time for shivasana at the end of the class and much less at the beginning. Maybe it's just me, but my mind doesn't start to quiet until I've been absorbed in the various postures for an hour. All the staff I've ever met are wonderful, and the workshop offerings complement the yoga so nicely. read more

It's now been two years since I started my yoga journey and I'm going 5 days a week. Over the years I've tried yoga at other places but it wasn't for me or so I thought. When my elderly mother needed some exercise we tried Chair Yoga here. The instructor was so kind and considerate of her limitations. She felt very welcomed and the other students were quick to welcome us. I enjoyed the class as well. After she passed away I decided to try the beginning/continuing classes and felt every bit as welcome there. The staff and students are kind (this is NOT competitive yoga!) the setting is lovely, and the prices affordable. Tucson is lucky to have such an organization. read more
