Unprofessional environment, more like a college dormitory than a professional space. The Yard's strategy seems to be to keep its own costs low, and that comes through:
- The office walls are the paper-thin, like the temporary walls you'd put up to make an extra bedroom in an apartment.
- Oftentimes the bathrooms are yucky, or out of soap (or both) for periods of time. The cleaning guy here is fantastic, but he's being asked to do way more than any one person could reasonably do in a day.
- The community managers are more like activity coordinators in a dormitory than people who run a professional space smoothly (I'm all for a Kombucha tasting at the office, but if I had to choose, I'd rather that the printers have paper, the bathrooms be clean, and office members be made aware that cranking the baseline at 11am on a Tuesday morning so it reverberates throughout multiple offices is not OK in a shared workspace, etc.)
- The Yard doesn't seem to train its Community Managers in any meaningful way. Oftentimes the CM is a person who themselves has little to no experience in a professional office space, so zero/minimal experience + no substantive training = Things that should be smoothly-handled non-issues turn into large, unresolved problems (this has come up with noise levels, emergency exits not working, etc.)
I've elevated a handful of issues to senior management and to date it's been quite clear that they're complacent about the low-quality status quo; don't expect any changes. (But I'd be delighted to see this change and would update my review accordingly if it did.)
Also, all the stuff that other reviewers noted about the elevator & A/C having somewhat frequent breakdowns is true.
We'd move but we're busy, so it hasn't happened yet. Hopefully this review helps others make a better choice. read more
