Similar to all the other Works stores really. It's packed full of discount books, art supplies, and little gift ideas. I get the impression that they operate on a when it's gone, it's gone basis, the stock seems a bit of a mishmash, not that far removed from a pound shop really.
The books they sell are of a high standard, just don't expect any new releases, it's more of a lucky dip. It's great for kids books, and if you're looking for a particular genre of book not necessarily books by a specific author. They also hold a variety of teach yourself books, often accompanied by a DVD, and often selling for under £5.
The DVD's are generally documentary DVD's, fantastic if someone has a keen interest in steam engines, not so great if you're looking to buy the latest blockbuster movies.
I can't comment on the quality of the art supplies, but they do seem to be very keenly priced. The quality of the gift sets, photo frames, toys etc are pretty high when considered in the context of low prices. They sell construction sets similar to meccano but without the same branding for less than a quarter the price of genuine branded kits for example.
A great shop to nip into and have a look around, and probably leave with some bits and bobs that cost very little. Just don't go in there with a shopping list expecting to pick up exactly what you're after! read more
