This has to be one of my favourite little shops in Llandudno, hidden away as it is at the bottom of…read moretown. I am a bit of a paperback thriller addict and have regularly taken advantage of the 3 for a fiver selection. Always lots of top authors - Tom Clancy, John Connolly, Mark Billingham etc etc - at the cheapest prices I've seen. The only problem is that I've now just about bought and read everything they've got to offer!

Contrary to the name 'Book Corner' isn't a book shop and strictly speaking isn't on a corner,…read morealthough it is very close to one (the old Coach Tour place next door is on the corner). It is in fact a small but well stocked newsagents. They stock a wide selection of newspapers and magazines as well as confectionary and tobacco products. You can also pay the Idiot Tax (ie play Lotto) here. In the Summer they usually have a couple of racks of cheap paperbacks outside which presumably accounts for the name. It is a handy shop if you're at the bottom end of town and don't fancy a hike up to Smiths to buy a paper, although if you're looking to buy a book I'd try Bookwise which is just across the road. It's close to the railway station and coach park so no doubt they pick up quite a bit of passing trade from passing travellers.

I recently managed to stock up on books by the likes of Andy McNab and Jeff Lindsey that I haven't been able to find in The Works or any other discount book retailer so it gets a thumbs up from me.

It's worth mentioning that they stock quite a few Marvel, DC & other graphic novels and collections, so if you're a comic book fan this shop could become a favourite stop off.

There are plenty of reduced price books of all descriptions as well as a selection of cds, dvds, stationary and arts and crafts materials. You won't find any recent releases but I often dig out a bargain. They also from time to time stock slightly random items, at the time of writing for example they've got a wide selection of flower and vegetable seeds. Not what you'd expect to find in a bookshop but very competetively priced none the less.

This is a real antiquarian bookstore in Wales. There are Welsh titles, but mostly English-language…read morebooks. Probably 100% of the items on the shelves would be "treasures" for a buyer with the right interests. When I visited, there were 3 copies (!!!) of the Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales (a treasure by any standard) on the shelves. Unfortunately for me, the items are priced according to their value: the Myvyrian Archaiology ranged from around £300 for a plain binding of the 1870 edition to around £800 for the three-volume 1801-07 edition. This is not a place to find bargains on antique books but, if you want to find a rare book, your chances of finding it here are good. On-street parking in Llandudno is a very dicey business. The traffic is surprisingly heavy, considering the town is literally on the way to nowhere.

The Muse is an excellent and cheap source of textbooks and reference books. I'm studying languages and The Muse has a wide range of ordinary texts in the languages I'm studying as well as several other languages such as Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Italian, Polish and of course, Welsh. They have, I believe, every single textbook that's required reading or recommended reading on courses at Bangor University and local schools and colleges, and the staff are friendly and very knowledgable. If books are not in stock, they'll order them for you and they'll be there for you to collect within a few days.

There's no permanent collection, instead they host visiting collections so you can visit every few months and see something different. They specialise in contemporary art which won't be to everyones taste and indeed I'm sure there will be those who won't even consider it to be art. However admission is free so whatever you think of the exhibits you can't say your visit was a waste of money. And there's also a nice cafe if you fancy sitting down with a coffee while your friends/relatives have a mooch.
