There is a HUGE variety of music genres here, and the staff is incredibly friendly and very well knowledgeable. I was honestly just going to get one or two vinyls, but because of how knowledgeable the staff member was he was able to show me more vinyls from artists I had never heard before and they were honestly what I was looking for. I know everything about modern metal and rock, but I've been wanting to learn more about the early roots of metal, and I was provided with some excellent vinyls. I definitely recommend anyone who loves music (everyone) to visit this store and discover music through a medium that not many people listen to nowadays. The prices on their inventory will make you go back as it is a fantastic value for the quality of product you are receiving.

During our Thanksgiving trip to Arcata, we ducked in here to look for some old vinyl. Considering…read morethe eclectic nature of this community, I was not all that surprised to find a pretty awesome little music store. Indeed, the personality of this business matches that of the greater community; that quixotic mix of coming to terms with your own minor quirks and foibles, along with the ability to laugh at yourself. Oh, and I love of just about every kind of music you could imagine. The store had all sorts of records, although these are not 1980s Woolworths prices. I think we spent about 25 bucks for an old GNR album, and found a cool little Grateful Dead piece of art. The key is behind the counter was much cooler than me, but just as kind... I like that when I go in the store. It makes me want to buy things. Other retailers in the Square should take note. All that to say, Arcata is a town with a flavor all its on, and this music store fits right in. I will be sure to stop in the next time I'm passing through to see what other treasures I can find in the stacks.

Update: Arrived…read moretoday and was ignored by the single employee who had her back turned to stock. Three of us waiting in line and when I asked her if someone was available to help us check or she scowled and huffed over. I also really really do not enjoy getting three different promotions shoved in my face (I don't blame her personally I blame FYE for making her do this) while trying to check out. Who even gets magazine subscriptions anymore? The headphones I bought (my fourth pair that are cheap AF but I love the color, that keep breaking) wouldn't even expand/open from their folded state. Immediately returned to the store to find 0 employees for FIVE minutes while I waited at the front register waving my arms at the cameras. I eventually just went and got the same headset and opened at that box, tempted to just walk out with it. She finally came out from somewhere in the back, told her the issue and left. She had to forcibly shove/pull the headphones I had bought with very loud audible clicks into place and then she couldn't even get them to collapse again. Cheap product as usual, and I told her I wasn't taking the risk with that pair and got the other which opened on the first try. It's a good thing I'm not a thief--this is Humboldt, folks, you can't have ONE employee working who leaves the floor for several minutes at a time and doesn't monitor your stock. Multiple employees have been awesome over the two years I've been here. Today specifically and especially Joseph got me hooked up with a device so I can stream DoTA2 TI9 on my tvand I won't miss a game!! There are multiple floors of books to explore and you can easily spend a day within the store talking about books with the staff, shopping for books, and living and breathing books. It is chock full of best-sellers, fiction, non-fiction. A wide range of good- condition children's books for a dollar or less.
