I agree with Guy who says that the concept of WINGS is great. Their book is great, the format of their meetings is pretty good too. But their selection of people to run the organization and groups has been woeful in my experience.
My group moved to a church a couple of years ago. For me, as a survivor of church based support, this was unacceptable. Then, in one of the first meetings there, a leader introduced a ritual that also triggered me badly. Instead of stopping once she realized I was triggered (another group member pointed it out to her), she continued. Only another member of the group helped me, and both of us were verbally attacked for it, and left the group.
I then tried to report it to the organization. I was promised a call back that never came, and I made several attempts. I had emails and phone numbers of people in the organization, but none returned my emails or calls.
I felt more violated by this organization than I did as a kid, and that's really saying something. Because these are people who are supposed to care, and who understand violation. They hurt me, and did nothing to protect me. You'll notice they never respond to negative feedback either.
Despite this, I still miss the group. The other group member and I still swing between wanting to go back, and feeling too traumatized to do so. read more
